    The conifer was removed because of it's size but it had a great example of a compressed fork (also known as an included fork or co-dominant stems).

    Great video! Great explanations regarding co-dom stems. We have a property manager that calls our crew “the joke show” because it’s nonstop slapstick. It makes for a good day. Side note: thank you for ducking the audio on saw cuts!

      The Joke show! I like it. Banter definitely makes the day go quicker!
      No problem about the audio. you’re the first to comment on it. I figured we all know what a chainsaw sounds like it and don’t need to hear it at full volume. Makes me go deaf editing it.

    You seem to have alot of customers with chickens? 😄😆 just kidding. Nice work. I especially enjoy the explanation and detailed illustration of what happens with co-doms.

    Great video 👍🏻 but I’d like to ask if there is a ‘cure’ or way of managing trees with co-dom stems other than simply felling the whole tree particularly when the compresed fork is low down in the trunk? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

      The best cure in most broadleaf trees is prevention. By doing regular formative pruning as the tree grows from a sapling. This way co-dom stems can be pruned out before they are an issue. This is more difficult in conifers as the trucks are usually obscured but more likely due to their tendency to grow straight up.
      Some people tell me that significantly reducing one of the co dominant stems is enough to prevent the co-dominance but I'm not convinced that helps the remaining (dominant) stem become stronger at the fork. Likewise if you remove one of the stems to the fork it leaves a pruning wound which reduces some of the pressures but leaves a big wound and introduces decay.
      The other option is to reduce the risk of a failure by using cobra bracing or other cable bracing system. This can be quite effective if done right. Or we can sometimes reduce the danger by removing/excluding things from the fall zone, particularly during storms.
      There's no right and wrong here though and it very much depends on the individual tree, it's location, and the risk it poses.

      @@RAWArb Thank you for taking the time to answer so fully. You’ve said what I suspected that prevention is better than cure. Cheers for that 👍🏻

    May I ask how long did the job take

    • @RAWArb
      @RAWArb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was between half a day to three-quarters of a day. We did a small job in the morning so I'm not sure what time we started this job. Does that help?
