IMO, the nicest looking Japanese bike ever made. I bought mine right out of the box in 1976 for $2000 Canadian, mine was brown, Loved it. Wish I still had it.

Lovely original bike you have there. I personally like the hazard flasher switch on the handlebars, it’s nice to see that in place. I am currently undertaking a light restoration of an American import KZ1000. I intend to convert the bike to U.K. specification with Z1000 side panel badges, long rear mudguard, twin front disc conversion and the correct rear grabrail, which has the two ‘wings’ for the rear indicator mounts. The bike has the original 4 into 2 exhaust system which is in really excellent condition as the bike has lived most of its life in the US. I agree with your comments regarding the Z1 as being one of the most beautiful Japanese bikes to have ever been produced. I always found the Honda CB750 to look a bit short and stocky in comparison. My ideal Z1 model would be a U.K. spec Z1b finished in super candy blue. Ride safe.

Interesting- I’d bet you’d find it hard enough to find the longer rear mudguard❔

@@peterfallows6802 yes, it very was very difficult to source a genuine Kawasaki long rear mudguard. Managed to find a NOS one from a bike dealer based in the South who was closing the down the business, it had most probably been sat on the dealers shelf for 40 odd years. I have used a protective wax spray to protect the underside of the mudguard, so it will hopefully never corrode. I never ride any of my classic bikes during the winter, too much money spent on rechroming and refinishing of parts etc..

      - & not to forget the seat strap 💭❔

@@peterfallows6802 yes Peter, I forgot that one. I have changed the seat on my bike to one with the strap. One other thing to mention is when changing over to the long U.K. spec rear mudguard, you also have the change the real light bracket as well. If you don’t the rear light is pushed up very close to the ducktail unit. I managed to source the correct light bracket from eBay, it even came with the correct rear light lens. The U.S. spec rear light lens has additional red reflectors moulded into the sides of the lens, the U.K. version does not have these. The only thing that I have not changed over is the light switch, as my bike is an American import it does not have a sidelight option on the switch. Just fitted a Dyno coil electronic ignition system to my bike, should hopefully be an improvement over the old contact points system.
