Yovani Arce Use à fuel additive to clean out the fuel injectors. They’re cheap. I use one every time I fill up to keep things in top shape. Volkswagen absolutely loves alert messages even when there is nothing majorly wrong. Take it to the dealership (NOT a local mechanic) and they’ll find out what’s up. It’s very likely nothing big. European cars require strict maintenance schedules. Most Americans like to drive it until something goes wrong and i think that’s the problem.

All other car makers hate the Corolla with a seething passion. If they could summon Satan, himself, to destroy all the Corollas, there schematics, and those that know how they are built, they would do so even if it would cost the CEO his soul. The Corolla is the thorn on all car makers side, except Toyota's, of course.

Actually that’s not all. Lately the some of the 1.5 engines have been mixing gas with oil, which is really bad. They’ve been on soft recall for at least a year, mostly affecting the new Civic and CR-V models. However instances aren’t very common and I’m surprised they didn’t add nissan’s weak cvts or the questionable electronics on German luxury brands to the list.

#1 Unreliable because its been doing real work pulling 10,000+ lb trailers full of equipment to the job site everyday. Drive it like a soccer mom putting 12,000 miles on it a year vs. 30,000 miles as a work truck also matters. You have to take this (the abuse) into consideration. But these are expensive trucks and people would like for them to be reliable with a good warranty. I had a Camaro SS that I drove like I stole it. I took it to the local 1/4 mile track on the weekends racing my friends for fun. It was very reliable, but I could see it having more issues than a soccer mom in a Toyota Avalon that never even floored the gas pedal.

Subarus have had head gasket problems with there 2.5 liter engines (most of there cars) for ever really, people say volvos have good engines and they do but there transmissions have been garbage since the late 90s on alll there models. Acura tls have transmission issues. Lincoln ls with the v8s have transmissiom issues. Some of the early bmw v8s had problems with there timing chain guides. And allll bmws have problems with there cool systems and in higher mileage cars the vanos systems. The old e60 bmw m5s from like 2004 to somwhere around 2009 ish have all kinds of problems. The old mclarens 12cs break everything and you cant get parts for them. The early nissans and infinitys from the early 2000s all have problems with timing chain tensioners. You know, as a person who has owned multiple Dodge products, I haven't had reliability issues. Every one of them was totalled by an accident after being 10+ years old and over 140k miles. They were cheap to buy, new or used, and I never had to do anything but standard maintenance on any of them. The one issue I've seen is transmission slipping, which all Chrysler Transmissions seem to get at somewhere over 150k miles. But, given that the vehicle cost what it did and lasted as long as it did, it wasn't a bad investment at all.
As for why I would buy a Dodge today over a Toyota or Honda, Toyotas aren't what they used to be ever since they collaborated with GM in the early 2000s and Hondas are also going the same way. When a company starts making SUVs and full size cars with turbo-charged 4 cyclinders, they are doomed. When weight-savings and gas mileage lead to less sturdy motors with less cylinders and a turbo, those engineers stopped worrying about over-building the engines for longevity. Given all that, I'd rather have a Hemi with a 7zf transmission and 400+ horsepower than pay extra for a name and a truck or full size car with 146 horsepower.
As for why there aren't more Chrysler or BMW on the list, it's because the shit-list is only 10 spots long. And, if you made it long enough, every car from every manufacturer would make the list. They ALL make 10-12 year vehicles with planned obsolesence in mind. (Except GM, who makes 8 year cars.)

Honda's CVT is destroying their reliabilty. Nissan went from the third most reliable vehicles to second worse just barely above Tesla Motors. Their CVT and merge with Renault caused that downward plummit. It seems only Subaru makes a reliable CVT and I would still hesitate to get one simply because of CVT's infamy. But work has a few Subarus that have only given minor issues. Me and the rest of the mechanics have asked management to stop ordering Nissians for the fleet and other vehicles with CVTs. I probably change two CVTs a weak. The most that fail are indeed Nissan. The two Tesla motor sales person vehicles will experimented with are so problematic they will likely be auctioned this month. They have been sitting for about four months now. It was an unsuccessful experiment. Another vehicle that proved a complete nightmare is the new four cylinder Silverado. They are too new to be unreliable but they can not pull anything. They are weak and struggle to do anything we use the older F-150s and Silverados to do. Nobody wants to use them. I guess they are okay for posers that do not need a pickup truck. When hauling even a light load, they swallow more petrol than the big V8s in the older pickup trucks. Avoid those as well unless you really do not need a real pickup truck. Ones to get from what it seems according to works fleet are F-150 V8, Silverado V8, F-250 4x4 diesel, Toyota cars, Ford cars, except the Focus, Caravan (ugly but really reliable) small Hyundai cars, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, and a few others. Avoid crossovers no matter what make. Avoid GM save the V8 Silverado.

Somewhat less if you do it yourself. I did actually have an inexpensive minor transmission issue once. In about 1990, my '65 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser wouldn't move when I put it in drive. I discovered that the tranny fluid was too low to allow the transmission to engage. A $2.50 bottle (x2) of fluid "fixed" it. I knew low fluid would cause that; it just never occurred to me that it was the problem. Anything else would probably run a buck or two to repair. Or maybe a little more.

Purchasing an Expensive foreign Luxury/Performance vehicle, without a warranty (Maybe second owner) IS a real problem. And it has ALWAYS been that. Such cars have the latest Gizmos and gadgets, often before anyone else and they are hardly bulletproof at that point. So, they ALL fail at a higher rate than cheaper cars. In addition, with the newest also means you cannot get cheaper aftermarket parts to make a repair and the labor charges at these dealerships can be overwhelming. After a few years, the LESSER CAR manufacturers add these features after the are proven and generally when they are being supplied by outside companies.
I would not by a used Mercedes, BMW, AUDI, or similar without a service contract. THey tend to have the most problems just when the initial lease (3 years) is up.

My 2012 Honda Fit was the best car I ever owned and am now 67. It was very dependable as it only needed routine maintenance, good for gas mileage, was a good cargo hauler, roomy for being a small car, and cheap for being a new car. When insurance totalled it recently at 135,000 miles when I was rear ended while sitting still at a red light of all places, we then bought the 2020 Honda Fit. I was so glad to have finally had a car where I did not have transimmsion trouble and other assorted problems. We did think about a hybrid Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda, but the Honda Fit just discontinued by Honda was bought again due to trying to limt the loss from a totaled car that we would have preferred just having the car fixed. I had hoped the 2012 Honda Fit would make it to 200,000 miles and kept good maintanance care of it. Until the 2012 Honda Fit I had previously owned Chrysler, Chevrolet, Buick, and Ford cars.

I, to this day can't believe he even told me about it!!!! I don't know what it is about CR and their surveys but there's something there that just isn't right. I think the surveys are legit but there is some extraneous factor involved that makes Japanese cars look better. As an example, I drive nothing but American cars and I would NEVER fill out a CR survey simply because I despise them.
