Not one manufacturer builds a car that would suit me Scotty I think the nearest thing to it would be a Willys Jeep simple design easy to maintain last for 30 years today everything is about speed and flash and everything has to be complicated and cost an arm and a leg to maintain go back to Henry Fords idea for the modern day.
@@referee9222 every motor manufacturer today is cutting more and more quality to save money because off competition so what mite have been true off a manufacturer 20 years ago isn't necessarily true today.I personally used to like VW and Audi now I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole not because off Diesel gate but because off having worked on cars for 40 plus years there quality has went down hill as Scotty would say everything is cheap plastic this is being pushed by bean counters to save money but VW are not alone there all at it.
@@bbw8384 Consumer reports can only give a projected reliability rating. They have been wrong time and time again. Scotty is an actual mechanic who reports what the real world results of reliability are after 100,000+ miles. Audi reliability is absolute garbage. I’ve owned 2 German cars, never again unless it’s a lease.
I just bought our first Acura. My son said, why not get a Honda? I said “I did”. After I educated him, he said “But why is their symbol Starfleet from Star Trek?” Now I can’t unsee it.
My mom gave me her '96 Toyota Camry when I first got my license. I hated that car because I thought it was the most uncool thing ever, but it never gave me any issues. Looking back now that I'm older and have made some very poor car purchases for the sake of having a "cool car", that Camry was the best car I ever owned haha.
I made the same mistake of buying "cool" cars, like a Ford Thunderbird. Only 13k miles later, my power window needed a new motor, then other things started to need work. The only things that lasted were the engine and transmission. But I didn't keep that car long enough to know. I had enough and sold it at 140k miles. Since then it's only Toyota or Honda for me. I've driven both to well over 200k miles without much problems.
Same here with mitsubishi montero 2006 model 3.2l diésel. Best car ever. It never breaks and it is equaly fast as all diésel pick ups trucks sold except the shity amarok.
This video in a nutshell. 1) Honda. 2) Expensive Honda. 3) Toyota. 4) Expensive Toyota. (The list is not in the order of the video on purpose, because I think it sounds better this way, otherwise it would be Honda, Expensive Toyota, Expensive Honda, Toyota.)
@@millybadison8166 I know that Acura is owned by honda and lexus is owned by toyota. The reason I changed the order is because it sounded wierd: 1) Honda. 2) Expensive Toyota. 3) Expensive Honda. 4) Toyota.
I helped buy my sister a tired old CRV as her first car. It's proven itself to be one of the most reliable cars anyone in my family has ever owned. And that's the story of how I became a Honda fan.
I got a CRV to learn to drive, had an accident the first week and 3 months later. Taught all of my friends to drive in it (12 more accidents), got married (8 more accidents, she drove it) and other than AC (one of ex-wife's collisions) it still ran fine. Had 6 other cars come and go in that time. Gave her to someone in a bad domestic situation and then my other car's engine blew....twice. So I'm back in the Honda family. I miss my old CR-V but it was beyond an eyesore.
I dont like it. I feel like we lost scotty to time. like he is retiring. where is that ugly mug? did he cover everything yet? idk he should really enjoy his retirement. Hope I can match him when I'm his age. He did the thing. thnx scotty for all the knoiwledge
Outstanding video Scotty. Your mechanic background provides a lot more than just visual; the mechanical details matter. Having owned a Honda Prelude, Acura Legend & currently a Lexus RX… from a ‘single female’ perspective the safety, care at the dealership level, reliability and safety these brands provide is top shelf. The fit, finish, and superior quality is the best!
I went from a 2008 Hemi to 2009 Honda Accord and it's been a blessing for the last 6 years ...Honda has way less power but it's way cheaper to maintain and way cheaper on gas ...
I actually like learning the history of Toyota, Honda and other companies from Scotty which is funny because I hated world history in school. Kudos to Scotty to making this all fun and interesting !
There's always a teachers pet who wants to be super helpful. Well, time stamps mean potentially less viewing time for Scotty. He makes the videos as a business and so people will watch. Then here comes you.
I kinda love how these four brands are made by two companies. I currently own my third and fourth Honda vehicles (make that fifth if you count my lawnmower). The previous two were totalled after being in wrecks (both instances the other driver was found at fault). I'm convinced that Hondas never die and can only be killed. Props to their safety features too. A curtain airbag left me with a goose egg as opposed to what could have been a cracked skull. Word to the wise, just because the other guy is supposed to stop, doesn't mean he will.
Never think people are thinking at all when they are driving a weapon that can kill you. I had the cracked skull from a t-bone ( on my front passenger side) the truck was going 55 mph. My friend was at fault. The Virgin Mary insisted I put my seatbelt on, 5 seconds later my friend missed a stop sign. Never underestimate the power of the Virgin Mary, a seatbelt and a car. Prays to u!♥️
We used to have a Honda Accord. When our family grew, we got a 2007 Honda Odyssey. We had that vehicle until 2017. Now, we have a 2017 Toyota Highlander. All 3 vehicles were/are very well built!
man, I remember Scotty standin in front of the red garage, workin on $500 dollar cars. Now he's got these Professionally produced videos. Amazing!! Kudos to you and your staff!!
About Kaizen (at about 33:40): my uncle worked at a Cadillac plant WAY back in the day at a station that involved assembling and installing dashboards. According to him, if they ran into a bad speedometer, they threw it into the reject bin and grabbed another one to put in the car. If they ran out of speedos during production, they just started installing those in the reject bin until they got a fresh supply of new ones. This car was considered the Standard of the World back then, the best GM could do. When I was a kid in the 50s - 70s and we got a new family car, the first accessory we installed was a notepad and pen to ride along on the front seat where we jotted down the flaws we discovered as we got to know the new car. This was the to-do list for the next visit back to the dealer to ask for the problems to be fixed. It’s just how things worked then. We marveled when we got our first Toyota. There was nothing to write down on the list.
Similar story from the microchip world - the US military bought several thousand chips from a Japanese manufacturer, using MIL-SPECs, which allowed for 5% bad chips, typical of US manufacturers. The Japanese delivered all the chips, but packaged (and labeled) the 'requested' 5% bad ones separately!
@@johnbjorkman4144OMG the faulty microchip story. I heard it too but for IBM UK, and it was 3 defective chips per 10,000. So they were in a separate bag with a note. How the story changes but stays the same. Also the car mechanic would say there are over 200 things that can go wrong so you can't fix it all. Then Toyota made that a myth too until they realised the loss of revenues from repairs. So now we have a calculated maintenance/repair cost built in to all products.
I can agree on how the Lexus LS400 was truly a luxury vehicle a head of it's time. On my honeymoon, we rented one in Las Vegas, drove it to the Grand Canyon, then to The White Horse National Park in New Mexico. While coming back on I-70 doing 70 mph, I was flagged down by some local residents. I couldn't understand what they were trying to tell me since it was at night. They were all trying to tell me something about the car was not right, yet I couldn't feel and difference in performance. So I pulled over at the next exit and went around to the back of the car to see a totally blown out tire. Mind you I was doing 70mph and couldn't feel anything. It drove smooth without any pulling or drag. Even the rim held it's overall shape so I was able to change the tire. Where normal rims would have bent around the hub. I was so impressed we sold both of our cars and bought one LS400. Which lasted us 7-8 years until I was rear ended and car was totaled.
Some years back I needed a cheap used car that got good mileage as a commuter car. I bought an ‘88 Integra with 200,000 miles on it for $1500. I sold it about 6 years later for $1,000 with 290,000 miles on it. Best $1500 I ever spent.
One feature that I would like for Toyota to bring back is the front passenger seat that can be adjusted to be flat like in the matrix. It is so handy to carry 8 foot pieces of lumber and sleep in when camping. Its a major selling point for me.
Mini van! You'd be amazed at the things you can load in them! I have Honda- take out seats, fold down rear ones, I have hauled 4x8 sheets of insulation etc. Also have a 5x8 cargo trailer - it can tow up to 3500 lbs.... plus, touring models are luxury. Watch your vids on guy saying why he "hates" them lol (because he loves the use/convenience was too good and he had no excuse to get rid of it 😅 ).
I've had a Matrix for 16 years and never knew about or tried that feature! I often use the flip up rear "magic seats" on my Honda Fit though. It allows me to use the rear floor. The Fit-derived HR-V has them too.
The things I moved in my Matrix were staggering. Besides an entire house in multiple trips I think the most impressive was a full size standup Zaxxon arcade game. Even I was impressed 😎
I've yet got to buy my first car, but I've bought three motorcycles already and have tested dozens. Let me tell you, the refinement you find in Hondas is something that no other brand has achieved, the machines feel tight, precise, responsive, fun and dependable. My first car will be a Honda... or a Toyota Celica 93 if I can find one at a decent price lol.
Good proper mechanics are a different breed of people. In my book, Scotty is one of them. He speaks the same way as the good mechanics i know...and i'm not from, or live in the US
Man even if someone doesnt care about cars or their hystory, the way you talk about them...its incredible how well you draw people to listen to your videos! I usually dont trust people very often, but the way you talk, the cursivity of your speech, withouth pauses, always with new information make me watch more of your videos! I hope you continue making videos, because its great content! 🤓
I originally came to this channel for the helpful maintenance tips, but Scotty's passion is contagious, and now I know more about car history than I ever wanted to.
Hearing the Lexus story and what they stand for and how it was made with the challenges and to later dominate the market really made me proud to be a Lexus owner
Same here. I’m 48 and have owned Fords, Volkswagens, Audis, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mazda and finally got my first Toyota product in a Lexus GX460. Went to Lexus Dealership for a service. Wow! Love Lexus. ❤
Scotty, I’ve never disliked even one of your videos. But I think this one may be your best-produced and most informative of them all. the greatest thing about Toyota/Honda were their Naturally aspirated engines. With even minimal care they almost all ran for 250k miles plus. Now that the switch has been made towards pint sized turbos that are probably only good for 2/3 of that 250k miles, you'll see more and more people switch to other brands.
Not really. I used to think that too but technology has changed and so has the quality of the engineering of those smaller engines. Honda are small engine experts and have been using turbos for decades and both brands would not make such steps if they knew it would destroy their sales. After all people buy these cars in large part thanks to their reliable reputation. Toyota and Honda both slowly have been going in the direction of smaller high pressure engines. If you look at the Honda civics 1.5t engine most people have been getting 200,000 miles out of those cars over the past 10 years or so they’ve been making them and for a car that’s $25,000 new, good gas millage, fun to drive , and low maintenance costs that’s extremely impressive.
@@dakota5571Totally agree, Toyota and Honda are the only ones I trust with those small turbo engines, you can trust they’ve made them properly. I’m sure with good care they’ll last 250k
Atleast you can have them for 10 years minimum due to high warranty. For a VW or Audi it's ONLY 2 Years and they know why. They dont trust their own products or just know, that nobody will throw away a 3 years old car, and just replace after 50k km a new motor for 6000€. Its ridiculous but in europe all the TSI FSI motors are still selling even when they have a lot of problems and the consumer have to repair it. Toyota has some problems too ofc but they rather call back the vehicels and dont act like they dont know about the issue.
@@redknight2120 IDK where you are, but here in the USA the Japanese cars typically have lesser warranties than the Korean, Euro, and American cars. Honda/Toyota Bumper to bumper is 3/36 and VW for example is 4/50 and Hyundai is 5/60.
Hi, I bought a new 2020 Honda C-RV and we all know it is assembled in Montreal, Canada. I would say manufacturing standards are not completely applied since I found so many gaps between external parts such as a hud, trunk, sun roof etc.
Awesome 👏. This is the reason why I now own a 2002 Lexus ES300 !! Build quality is unparalleled. 161k miles and everything works like day one. Quiet and solid.
@@juliocorales5090 ….I had a 2002 accord, gave it to my daughter with 170,000 miles, took it to dealer and asked them to do a safety inspection before I gave it to her. All it needed was a battery, she got into accident and totaled car with over 200,000 miles on it, car was incredibly reliable.
I can testify that too! My uncle had his 2002 Lexus ES300 for 12 years from new... Not one single issue at 2035k miles. He sold it during the pandemic for a 2014 Lexus ES 300 hybrid model. Sexy cars, absolutely impeccable! I used to think Lexus were for old men but far from it, as i have Lexus on my shortlist too!🥰😍
That’s why I only drive Lexus. Wife has a 08 RX350 145K miles still runs smooth. Mine is a 17 ES350. My son will get the 08 RX once he turns 16 in a couple of years and her next car will be guess what another RX350.
I've owned two Mazdas, two Chevrolets, two Toyotas, a Scion, a Nissan and a VW. The only one that gave me any real trouble was the VW. The rest were basically trouble-free with routine maintenance and no major repairs ever needed. I will say, the Mazdas were both way more fun to drive than any of the others, and on a few occasions when I've driven Hondas those were fun to drive too.
@@durchfallklaus4420 Check out some of the new BMW's they have gotten much better over the last few years. I am considering moving on from Subaru and Mazda into a 2023 BMW X1
I really like your videos on Toyota. My 1990 Toyota pickup has 255K miles and just got service ( from a great mechanic) for long-needed brake, wheel and alignment work. It runs great and sounds great. It's a member of the family. My Mitsubishi is 21 years old and has been incredibly reliable. I've been blessed.
Scotty, this is the 2nd auto history lesson you've produced and it's great. I'm really happy you have added an informative level to your channel. Thank you.
I learned to only buy Honda and Toyota from my dad. My first car was in 2011 and was a 1991 Camry station wagon, I nicknamed "El Guapo." Drove it to 195k miles and sold it for $1.5k and then bought a 2002 Accord. Last I heard about "El Guapo" was a few years ago and the current owner loves the car and has it at 250k miles! I drove the Accord to 160k miles and sold it for $2k and then bought a 2015 Civic. Now my wife and I just bought a second car, a 2019 Toyota Avalon. Honda and Toyota have never disappointed me!
I'm a Ford guy (problem free Focus ST in 4 years although a daily driver beaten to hell) and my girlfriend's Elantra has held up very well over the past 8 years. Maybe 1 small repair I believe. One hub bearing (I can't remember the wheel.) But I would definitely consider a Honda or Toyota in the future. Scotty makes the best videos!
After seeing that the original Lexus LS400 had 40 different original designs, now I'm curious how Pontiac came up with Aztec and how much effort they put into it.
Damn, for a person that lives in Japan I found this fascinating. Now I really feel I've been instructed about cars, and car's history like I ever have. It must say it is inspiring to see all the effort put in all these magnificent inventions. Also the meanings of 改善(kaizen) , 自動化(jidouka) are well explained! What a great documentary thank you sir!
In my 20s I was driving a 325ic BMW for 2 years my dream car. Leased then bought Lexus ES300 for 10 years. Now I'm old and driving my 3rd BMW 325ic that's 20 years old.😂
My dad had a 2002 Acura TL type s with a sunroof and leather seats with a navigation system, heated seats, and a tape deck, my dad bought it 5 years ago for 1200 bucks with 200,000 miles and sold it for 300 dollars 2 years ago, to this day he still regrets selling it.
Yeah those are worth keeping, and probably putting a new engine and trans in after it gets over 300k miles, if everything else is still decent on the car.
@@standtallvets5386 wouldn't make sense to do that when they can go over that mileage and much more on the same engine that sounds like something you do with a unreliable brand
My mother just gave her 2004 TL Type S automatic with over 350,000 miles to her grandkids. That's the only car she bought because of my recommendation. It has lasted more than any other car she has owned. She bought it new.
I have two Mercedes, I maintain them and they both have over 200,000 miles. The bodies are still in excellent shape. I've owned Hondas and Acuras, they both had great engines but the bodies were cheap metal that regardless of care given they always rust.
Germans cars last forever if you maintain them according to the manufacturer exact specifications. Also, this video may be valid for the US and not necessarily for the entire world
A while back I had the pleasure of acquiring an 11 year old Acura 3.5 RL sedan that had roughly 120K miles on it at the time, despite that being the fact it still performed like new. The experience of owning that vehicle legitimately made me a true fan of the brand, the handling/reliability/overall performance was impressive and it was the best as well as my personal favorite automobile that I've ever owned.
I had one of those too, and I agree 100%. In fact, it was so good that when circumstances led me to sell it, I kept it in the family because it was too good to hand over to a stranger.
Exceptional Video Scotty, this one is definitely "on-par" as a documentary! These Automotive Companies that you present and their products history make us all better informed consumers Saying Thank you for your extensive auto knowledge from behind the wheel of my 130,000 miles 2008 Lexus RX350 :-)
Over 60 people disliked this vid because you didn’t include Mercedes and BMW’s here or they’re probably just upset at the money they’re wasting repairing their cars.
WELL, HE HAS commented on Mercedes and BMW. My 2013 BMW X5 35I M is really nice. 5 years of driving . Washington DC to Moab to Savanah to Denver. But I hope I can afford to another long trip. The parts can be expensive and dealers service are crooks and liars. $3100.00 QUOTE FOR valve cover gaskets ,oil heat exchanger gasket and a rear door latch catch. I have a local mechanic like Scotty. Oem gaskets $60 Which are cheap designed for failure. $6 to replace a crankcase vent hose better than a $160 oem. $ 0 to adjust rear latch that is good. Oil change ,alignment all lubes and inspection.$600 plus a steak house gift card. Buy a Lexus or Acura I will the next time! It is a driving machine.
I've had an 04 Bmw e46 m3 since 05.Its a typical German car over complicated and unreliable. For every owner of a German car that says it's been reliable theres ten in the shop.
@@byrdjohn3280 I like that you included the steak house gift card. I try to let my mechanic know I appreciate him as well. He's a great guy, honest and very reasonable. Qualities that are getting harder to find.
I’ve owned 5 Lexus vehicles all RX350’s and the newest a 2023 NX350 (amazing vehicle!!) Never ever had an issue with any of them. I’m probably a Lexus owner for life.
When I bought my my Accord, literally everyone said to me gonna cost a fortune to fix Honda parts really expensive. So far definitely not found the opposite, especially when I've owned Vauxhall, Citroën, Renault, VW and Nissan previously.
I know. They been saying that since the 90's. My mom had a friend from the south that always bothered her about buying a Honda Accord. He always said the parts will be hight to fix that car. He was buying Cadillacs. His car spent more time in the show than hers. ANd hers was only in the shop for oil changes and regular maintance.
Yeah I'm sure you can get parts for them for a decent price they may be talking about oem which yea since Honda parts are good quality they probably do but you can always get aftermarket parts they arent necessary and adding what to someone said Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Mazda all don't be in the shop as often as Nissan and others especially American cars. Mercedes benz are the third most reliable engine after Honda and Toyota but because everything else isn't reliable on it now a days (electronics, parts) it ends up being a unreliable brand as a whole
My '98 LS400 is now 23 yo and still a joy to own and drive. It is the successor to 20 yrs of German "luxury" cars that were very unreliable though pleasant to drive. Yes, they were made in Germany, flawlessly maintained and each arrived with factory defects!
Now the German luxury cars sold here in the US now are made outside of Germany! Long story short, the german engineering factor was not included with that business deal.
My 2007 Civic engine died (main bearings) at 135K miles. When I contacted Honda, they said "what do you expect for a 15 year old car?" I've had Alfa Romeos go 200k!
Another reason for the high theft rate of Hondas is ironically because they last so long and stay on the road, you'll be unlikely to come across them very often in junkyards which a lot of folks head to when looking for replacement parts on a budget.
The first time I heard how great is the Lexus is when I am stationed in Germany and my German friend told me how awesome is the handling, speed and performance of the Lexus compare to their BMW in the Autobahn. It's just like driving a luxury sports car.
I bought a 2008 Lexus 460LS in 4/03/ 21. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. I really didn't know much about the Lexus brand, except that it was expensive and it had a pretty good reputation. I know a lot more now!! I believe that it's the best car I've ever owned!! Sure you're right, that even owning 08, 460LS with a V8 can be a little spendy at times for maintenance, gas, etc, but it's worth it in the long run! The look, the luxury, the performance et, I'm loving it!!
Thank you for the great information about Lexus. Makes me understand why I love my 2017 IS300. Comfortable, and smooth. Not to mention how great I am treated when I bring it in for regular maintenance... free coffee, coke machines, snacks, car wash, etc.
I am an average middle aged woman who just wants to buy a hassle free, practical car. Can’t be bothered with the intricacies of automobiles. But since I happened to watch one of scotty’s videos and a few dozen hours later, You would be forgiven if you thought I have been a car enthusiast for a while. The breadth of knowledge and more importantly the history of various car brands and models in Scotty’s videos is phenomenal. I am almost addicted to his videos now and just cannot stop. To have converted a boring layperson like me into a (probably) lifelong automotive enthusiast is no small feat and I applaud 👏 him for it. He is great at what he does and I am very appreciative of that. And I am forever grateful to TH-cam. It’s a treasure trove of knowledge and collective wisdom. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Over the summer, I had the ACC sensor stolen off the front of my ‘21 CR-V. I didn’t even know that was something I had to worry about getting stolen off my car! As much as I love Honda, having one DOES kinda put a target on your back one way or another.🤷♂️
I'm saying the miata is number 3. Have seen many with 300k and still drive very well. In my opinion it's Toyota Carolla then Honda Civic then Miata. All with manual transmission.
Yes sir! I drove an 89' Honda Civic for 10 years. Then drove a Toyota Landcruiser for 9 years. Now I LOVE my Lexus LX570! The car is DREAMY (the gas mileage ... not so much)! 😂😂😂 My daughters 2012 Civic side-curtain airbags saved her life and that of my wife in a nasty accident a few years ago! Thank you Honda! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm on my third Honda, looking for the fourth. Been driving them since 1998. 2 Civics and now a Jazz/Fit. The Jazz topped the consumer satisfaction lists over here, a few years in a row. Love the brand. The next is gonna a Jazz also. A hybrid. Maybe next year.
I'd just keep the one you have ....it's a fit basically.....it'll go over 300k..my wife has an 09 for sport 5 spd , has 200k on it , runs like new. Has barely needed anything other than maintenance
In Norwegian Luxury is spelled "Luksus" and Lexus is immediately a brand name that makes you think about luxury. Many other languages have very similar luxury words.
Yea going by some of the cars I've seen/worked on, no matter how good a car is built, someone will find a way to mess it up, as long as humans are humans mechanics will have a job.
@@19ryuusei You are right bro, besides people don’t mind giving extra Tips to good mechanics that look out 👀 for you. If you trust your mechanic, you will still go to him to do your oil change and still keep him/her in business. We have a 2014 Toyota Sequoia with 206+k miles on it. The only complaint is its small gas tank - when we're towing our camper, it makes for short trips between fuel stops. It's good for you, but not always what you want to do. We noticed the new Sequoia has slightly better mileage, but a smaller tank!
Fantastic video and very good choices! Our Honda Civic was the best car in family - no problems, great practicality and absolutely responsive and precise steering and gear shifting. And as bonus - excellent car care leading to maximum confidence.
One Honda model you left out was the Sportabout. It was over the curb for $2100 in 1973 (could be off a year) 2 cylinders (motorcycle engine turned sideways), front-wheel drive, great pick up, 50 miles per gallon on regular gas. I loved that car more than any car I've ever owned. Two drawbacks...no a/c and I lived in Miami heat, and it was so tiny that it wasn't uncommon to come out from shopping and find that a few college guys would have picked it up and turned it sideways in the parking space. Then the Civic came out and I traded up, but I wish I still had that car today!
This is the reason i bought my 2001 used Acura. Leather seats, heated seats, electric adjustable seats, Vtech 6cyl, comfort plus Bose stereo that will blow your face off. Had it for 2yrs and its still runs like a champ. Back fender wells are showing some rust tho. Best used car i ever bought for under 1000 bucks. I can't complain. Just recently bought a 2005 Mazda 3 Hatchback. Stole it for 1500.00. Metallic red no rust runs great too. Mazda is also recommended by Scotty. He will not steer you wrong. Thx Scotty, your the best. It's great not having any car payments.
Been checking out a lot of your videos since I was in the process of used car buying (terrible time to get one, I know, but my previous car broke down so I need to buy one now). Really great videos, helped me a ton. What's funny is that because of the TH-cam algorithm, it's showing me a bunch of other car videos from other channels and I'm seeing a bunch from folks with a car sales background recommending which luxury car brands to buy (BMW, Mercedes, etc). Meanwhile Scotty, who has a mechanic background is telling folks to stick with the Toyotas and Hondas (Lexus & Acura if you want to spend a little more) and you could go Ford if you are getting a truck/SUV. Hmm, I wonder who I should trust, the TH-camr with a sales background who wants to push the higher priced brands, or the TH-camr with decades of mechanic/car fixing background? Pretty easy choice haha.
My friend’s dad was an exec at Matel & purchased the 1st Lexus in our SoCal community & everyone was impressed!! I remember it was extremely quiet & luxurious. I’m gladly daily driving a 2001 GS300 currently (60k miles from original old lady owner) & it drives much nicer than newer cars!!
My ex got a 2005 Honda Accord in 2012 . She would constantly let the oil go dry and I would catch it just in time(barely). But she did no maintenance on it whatsoever. I say that to say this.... That car still made it to well over 200 thousand miles. And the only reason why she had to get rid of it was because it got totaled again. That was the most reliable car I've ever seen considering it received no maintenance, not even regular oil changes lol
I can personally vouch that Honda and Toyota prioritize quality. Being that I worked in the Columbus Toyota plant and Greensburg Honda plant. Of course like any business they still _want_ their numbers, but they prioritize quality.
Andrew Virtue, I work at the Greensburg Honda plant. True they look at their numbers, but they beat in “quality quality quality”!! Having 4 Hondas in our family, I feel I have a personal stake in doing quality work!
still have my ‘98 integra. original owner. will be changing water pump and thermostat, fluids, and belts (drive and timing). along with valve adjustment. replace struts and brakes. gonna have me some fun while i prep the car to run for another 100k.
Mine had 340,000 miles. It was passed down to me from my older brother who was also the original owner. All original. The only thing I did was put foam strips to stop a rattle coming from the hood. It was a 2001. I miss it very much since I have many nostalgic memories.
@Hayden Carver funny story! I got maadddd allergies. And I didn’t know about there being a cabin air filter. I took the glove box out and I had a rattling in the dash board near the glove box. Turns out the cabin air filter was not pushed in all the way or maybe I had hit a dip pretty hard and knocked it our of place. I relaxed the cabin air peril yet and pushed the trey in all the way and attached the glove box back in and the noice was gone. I hope that helps. If not check if the lock on the glove box is becoming loos. If so there are sealers. Integras can rattle like crazy. Also, the cause for my integra rattling is because I had a broken engine mount. I got that replaced with an identical part from a pickit part. The it virtually did not rattle.
Sold my 2012 Chevy Cruze with 134K miles for a 2001 Civic LX 2 Door that had 150K. I can confirm it beats the last 2 GM cars I’ve owned before. Great video Scotty !
Instead of that Cruze, u Should have gotten a 90s Buick park avenue, that car is made by GM and i can confirm it beats the car brands in this video. I have Had my 1999 Park Avenue for 13 years, 565 k miles with original motor and trans, it claps camrys in drag races, looks great and my friends 2001 corolla fell apart at 260 k miles 10 yrs ago...
LoL better start watching TH-cam videos on how to replace your own head gasket on the 01 Civic. And if automatic, it’s probably on a rebuilt transmisión that won’t last. 01 was a bad year for Civic transmission. I had an 03 and never had a problem, gave it away with 170k still pulling strong.
Faraz Hussain, good for you! However, your experience is not statistically significant in overcoming the heretofore insurmountable challenge GM faces when being compared against the Honda & Toyota brands.
@@Snookynibbles that is very true, times sure has changed just like GMs quality over the years, making Honda and Toyota better than GM when comparing the products they make today
My first car was a Honda Fit 2011. I was really amazed by how reliable and practical it was. I recently changed it to KIA optima and hasn’t stopped missing ever since. Optima is also a good car but Honda Fit will always be my first love.
Exceptional video! The whole backstory of each of these brands, then their competitive approaches sums it up. The U.S. auto companies were all about kaisan in the 1990's, the Toyota Production System. Scott rules...
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger with 170,000 miles on it, and the thing runs great, the only problem I have with it is rust. I have had it for 9 years and it is a good truck.
I still like my 2005 Honda CR-V, even after owning it for 16 years! Just wish I hadn't wasted big bucks (when I bought it at the dealer) on a 7 year warranty, because nothing ever much goes wrong with it. Will probably buy another Honda soon, though, but won't sell my old faithful.
I switched from hondas to mercedes to bmw and now i have a 1998 2.5 v6 suzuki grand vitara and i love it. Suzuki makes the gasoline engines in house and are easy to work with. No extra electrics, no abs, no traction control and no transfer case. The 4wd is either on or off. The transmission has gone trough over 500 000km and the engine has been swapped for a 14000km one. I would definitely put suzuki on the same class with the hondas and toyotas as far as reliability goes.

Just for the record we’ve owned two Camry’s and a Highlander and didn’t have a lick of trouble!

Which lasted us 7-8 years until I was rear ended and car was totaled.
amazing story
I bought an Acura Vigor in 1992 for $24,000 at the age of 22. In 2020 I sold it for $500 and moved from CT to CA. What a great product.
I remember those I-5 cylinder engine.
Some years back I needed a cheap used car that got good mileage as a commuter car. I bought an ‘88 Integra with 200,000 miles on it for $1500. I sold it about 6 years later for $1,000 with 290,000 miles on it. Best $1500 I ever spent.
Wow that is great!!
In fact you spent $500 lol
The Honda Element did that all the seats can fold flat .
I've had a Matrix for 16 years and never knew about or tried that feature! I often use the flip up rear "magic seats" on my Honda Fit though. It allows me to use the rear floor. The Fit-derived HR-V has them too.
Sleep under the car while camping, and inspect the under carriage at the same time.
My first car will be a Honda... or a Toyota Celica 93 if I can find one at a decent price lol.

the greatest thing about Toyota/Honda were their Naturally aspirated engines.

E46 best buy for me. Expensive to maintain tho
Well...he can always buy another one. 😉
I have a 2005 Acura TL with the 6 speed manual ( limited slip ) trans and factory Front Brembo brakes . Its a blast !
Thin uprotected body and weak paint is the biggest problem of Hondas. But i believe most brands nowadays have such problems.
Germans cars last forever if you maintain them according to the manufacturer exact specifications.
Also, this video may be valid for the US and not necessarily for the entire world
This was the best video Mr. Kilmer has made yet! Proof Honda, and Toyota reign SUPREME.
Mazda too
I did a little research, Honda depreciates slowly than Toyota. Glad to see Scotty confirm that
Sedans maybe. Toyota trucks and SUVs depreciate less than Honda trucks and SUVs.
I do NOT think so...Toyota way outlasts crap Honda!!! Had 3 Hondas...now I only buy Toyota!

The parts can be expensive and dealers service are crooks and liars. $3100.00 QUOTE FOR valve cover gaskets ,oil heat exchanger gasket and a rear door latch catch.
I have a local mechanic like Scotty.
Oem gaskets $60
Which are cheap designed for failure.
$6 to replace a crankcase vent hose better than a $160 oem. $ 0 to adjust rear latch that is good. Oil change ,alignment all lubes and inspection.$600 plus a steak house gift card.
Buy a Lexus or Acura
I will the next time!
It is a driving machine.
I love bmw and porsche. But this production is excellent. Why would you even dislike it.
I've had an 04 Bmw e46 m3 since 05.Its a typical German car over complicated and unreliable. For every owner of a German car that says it's been reliable theres ten in the shop.

Evening Professor Kilmer. 😎✌️
evening!
The two very best automakers right here. These are the only brands you see on my driveway.
Another reason for the high theft rate of Hondas is ironically because they last so long and stay on the road, you'll be unlikely to come across them very often in junkyards which a lot of folks head to when looking for replacement parts on a budget.
I am keeping my 105K miles 2010 Corolla LE for life! I love this car!

But since I happened to watch one of scotty’s videos and a few dozen hours later, You would be forgiven if you thought I have been a car enthusiast for a while. You know Scotty’s a real one when he promotes cars that would drive mechanics out of business
But now a days, you just can’t do that because you are always suspicious of crooked people that try to sell you stuff that is not even supposed to be paid for.
I’ve had a great experience with my Hyundai as well. 10 years zero problems so far! Mine was built in Korea for what it’s worth.
Love my 2017 Camry SE, great pizza delivery vehicle. Reliability comes first for how much I drive, around 2500-3000 miles a month!
@AgentMC Media it's a lot but it's a fun job
Buy a Honda and don't buy a turbocharged one I own a 2008 CRV that just hit 94,000 miles I have to say best car I've ever owned

Well…. The integra is back but it is really bland. It is one of the most cliche cars out right now.
