I was just thinking about Goblin the other day. Like what are his actual, fleshed out motives? His biggest one just seems to be "be a dick to Spider-Man". I think that's what prevents a lot of Spidey villains from being as engaging as, say, Batman villains; the lot of them are more of a threat to Spider-Man than they have been to New York.

Every part of his plan worked, the only thing he missed is that he mis-interpretted Batman's intentions. But he succeeded with every other part of his evil plan. Batman totally lost the battle on all fronts (though the movie was about how he was shown to properly win the war).

In the original comics, Norman wasn't even screwed over by his board of directors--he was well-set, very successful, and only really became a criminal because he was bored and wanted to be the boss of the criminal underworld. The Green Goblin's original motivation for killing Spider-Man was as a way to prove himself to mobsters. Failing that, he wanted revenge on Spider-Man... for foiling his initial attempt to kill Spider-Man. So yeah, Norman just wants to kill people.

I'm glad that Spiderman referenced the fact that in all the bad guy goals in fiction, you know, they never really seem to mention the fact that there are some real-world aspects to their world domination agenda. When you successfully invade Rome, there's no point destroying everything - all that architecture's so nice, and they have such efficient, anti-bureaucratic systems in place! Just let the old systems (minus dissenters) run, reap the benefits of being ruler, and threaten to blast anyone who attempts to dethrone you. Oh, and armed guards, etc. Can't forget them.

Not _all_ bad guys, and even within the MCU the Kingpin should be a counter-example. Technically, Thanos is also an exception since his entire idea rests on the premise to disregard this kind of realism. Judging him from this point of view - however sensible it is - finds no fault in the character per se, who even planned to become a peaceful farmer after the snap, but in the whole story.

If you want a serious answer, I believe it was just power. In no way home, his line was "Strong enough to have it all, TOO WEAK TO TAKE IT". He basically wanted to take whatever he wanted with the power he already has, and teaming up with spider man, the only other super human at the time, was probably his best bet to have it all.

Idk, Green Goblin continuing to do evil after accomplishing his goals makes sense to me. People highly underestimate both Dafoe's Goblin and Tobey's Spidey strength and resistance. Tobey survived with some moderate injuries to a bomb which literally vaporizes people's flesh into a clean pile of bones. While Dafoe could go toe on toe with Spidey, who we all know can hold on and stop a train going maximum speed on his own. No wonder Gobby gave Holland a hard time despite being geriatric In NWH.

Weirdly enough I believe at one point a comic was made where Dr Doom successfully took over the world, and it ended up a perfect utopia, purely because of Doom's egotism in him wanting to make a world a better place to be than Reed ever could

If you want a serious answer, I believe it was just power. In no way home, his line was "Strong enough to have it all, TOO WEAK TO TAKE IT". He basically wanted to take whatever he wanted with the power he already has, and teaming up with spider man, the only other super human at the time, was probably his best bet to have it all.

People highly underestimate both Dafoe's Goblin and Tobey's Spidey strength and resistance.
Tobey survived with some moderate injuries to a bomb which literally vaporizes people's flesh into a clean pile of bones. While Dafoe could go toe on toe with Spidey, who we all know can hold on and stop a train going maximum speed on his own.
No wonder Gobby gave Holland a hard time despite being geriatric In NWH.
Don't forget that bomb was *point blank range* and he survived that.

Harley has slowly lost her persona and reverted back to the serious Ph.D. Harleen Quinzel, desperately looking for money to finance the city when there isn't any. And in the end, Batman just pulls up back from his trip in the Bahamas or some sort of extra dimensional sex dungeon where Superman is actually a transvestite or some shit, expecting Joker and Harley to put up a fight but they just beg to be put back in Arkham.
Weirdly enough I believe at one point a comic was made where Dr Doom successfully took over the world, and it ended up a perfect utopia, purely because of Doom's egotism in him wanting to make a world a better place to be than Reed ever could
