Wish there was more separation, but as long as you run the water for a few moments like you did it shouldn't be an issue.
👍 yes, closer than I like to see it at a dump station…. But they said it was potable!
I noticed the close proximity before seeing your question. (Yikes!) We've never paid more than $10 for dumping and that's rare. Usually it's free. Is the price a California thing? (Plus I don't recall ever paying for water, but our tank is much smaller.) I think we would have moved on.
Absolutely gross. I would of had to pass on that one. Water purity is just something I go overboard on. Cross contamination is so easy. I've had food poisoning, pink eye before. I was born with a low immune system, so I have to be extra careful.
Did you call the health department
Aaron, you should try to NEVER have the RV wheels off of the ground. Here’s how to get auto leveling to work on very uneven ground. You should have a bubble level attached to the side and front of the RV so you can see what’s what. First you pull tires on the low side of the RV up onto leveling ramps or blocks to get things as close as you can. You then use the bubble levels to help you ‘imagine’ how many blocks you need to put under the leveling pads to ‘simulate’ level ground (left to right). You then use the manual pins on the leveling feet to put them about 4-5 inches (I use the width of my palm) above the pads. you only do the front pads first since you need the rear leveling feet to be up when you lift the RV off of the hitch. Once it’s off the hitch you put the rear blocks in place. Then hit auto-level and things should be fine. The trick is to ‘simulate’ level ground with the blocks, once the RV has been leveled left to right as much as possible by pulling the wheels up onto leveling ramps or blocks. This keeps the wheels on the ground and puts things within reach of the auto-leveling system. Hope this helps.
I don’t see why having the wheels off the ground makes a bit of difference. Where has anyone realized any damage or issue from having done so? I doubt ever. Once you’ve decompressed the springs there’s basically no load on the tires anyway, so touching the ground or not is of marginal if any difference.
I've never heard this "don't fill your tanks all the way" thing before. In fact, it's probably better to be full. A tank that's full acts like a solid. But a partially filled tank will slosh around. Your freshwater tank is probably too small for this to really matter, but with tanker trucks sloshing can cause handling issues and even flip them over in rare cases. They install baffles to minimize the sloshing, but still prefer being full or empty.
Just a helpful hint. WD 40 is a solvent. Might want to get some spray lube for the areas that slide.
Get one of those plastic discs that go between the kingpin and hitch, then you don’t have to lubricate that part. I use white lithium instead of WD-40.
Manufacture calls for WD40.
@@camustang1966Cannot use poly disks when you have this brand of auto slide hitch. Also, cannot use grease on this hitch and slide rails. Only WD40 is approved for cleaning and partial lube every trip.
I was worried about the freshwater so close to the dump but then it’s the hose that would matter and you used your own so not a big deal.
Way to handle all the obstacles!
Thanks for sharing
Bunches of love

I love 395!!! I drive that road so many times to ski Mammoth. Bishop is great, the jerky and sheep herders bread is one of a kind!!
Wow, there is no way I would fill water from that close to a dump. That's right in the PSZ (poop splash zone)!
1) I won’t use fw from a close spot near dump station, despite signs saying good to go. Too many folks don’t respect others health safety with careless use. 2) I would install a small 100 ah lithium on the twelve volt side and use only ONE victron converter at a time. This gives plenty of 12 volt power for anything on the coach, and allows you to notice if/when the victron buck converter fails. Really enjoying your channel and the synergy between you two.
Use a lube plate between your kingpin and the head of the 5th wheel. It’s a Teflon disk used as a lube. Carry a few of them as they can wear out often.
My issue with potable water at public dump stations is the lack of backflow devices in some systems. Some folks use the potable water hose to flush their black tanks. Always a risk in that case.
It’s easy to add a water meter to your fresh water hose and add just the amount you want to.
I saw you guy questioning tank levels saying you never know within 20 gallons what the true level is. I had same issues specially boondocking thinking it would be great to know exact levels all the time. Then I discovered SeeLevel tank sensors made by company that makes sensors for commercial tanker trucks.
There sensors attach to outside of tanks and can read every inch of tank making life so much better to know when gray or black it actually a level to take that extra shower or not and when fresh water is filled to shop filling it. They reuse two wires going to present sensor wires and have Digital readouts. Including propane tank as well in kit. It’s not to bad to add.
Great information waving this, thanks!
Arron looked like a porch pirate who just hit the jackpot running back to the truck w/ his haul.
🤣🤣🤠😈
It’s not just us that take forever to get to our destination. Then you’re tired from the journey. We have stayed on the same road boon docking. Nice area 15 minutes away from mammoth.
There is a rest stop in Mammoth lakes really near the boondocking areas that has free potable water so you don’t have to travel with so much weight especially driving uphill to Mammoth. There is also a really fun place with great food and music called liberty sports bar and grill
Another thing I love about Idaho is there’s so many either donation or free dump sites with fresh water and they’re laid out to where the freshwater is quite a ways away from the dumpsite so two sometimes four people can be using it at the same time. Thanks for the video.
Was that the only pottable water spigot right above the Sani-Dump drain hole? Seams like a major health hazard . At that price they should definitely have a pottable water tap further away. CA is expensive thats for sure. PS Love the new trailer
Chris does a fantastic job pulling your big rig; the thought of me pulling ours scares the heck out of me, but we are curious as to why Aaron never does the driving?? (Fairly new subscribers, so missed it if previously explained).
He doesn't wear the trousers.
They both drive. But Aaron doesn't like filming while driving, and Chris doesn't do much filming. There are definitely videos with Aaron driving if you go back far enough.
Dont use wd40...get a disk way better and use proper spray lube for the hitch... And agreed never have your tires hang ....great vid
OMG, I am surprised how much you two young people trust the Amazon drop boxes, and trust all the digital stuff on your phones! I guess that is why I threw my Blackberry into Lake Erie when I retired! However, I did love your Key West Adventure! you two!
Loved the violin piece after you left the dog park. You always play some great background music.....very enjoyable! Louie and June are adorable to watch. You sure foundy a great place to boondock.....perfect!
😊 thank you!
Wow, I feel like I spent the day with you, I’m tired too. Great video.
Arron, why don't you fill your fresh water tank and then empty some into the black tank? It's always good to have a little water in the black tank to add chemicals. It's better than dumping it on the ground. Just a thought.
👍 good suggestion!
WE USED TO CAMP AT JUNE LAKE AND WE WOULD VISIT THE GHOST TOWN OF BODIE ACROSS THE HWY
3:51 I know that thought well.
I'm now camped 31 miles from the nearest community. ant that community is a single gas station. The nearest cell service is 80 miles. If Starlink dies I am sans communication.
Make sure you visit south tufa when at mono lake. It’s amazing. Nothing else compares.
Try staying at Glass Creek, just North of Mammoth West of Crestview.
I love Glass Creek but that might be a tad tight for the 5er. When I was up that way, memorial day this year, Glass Creek was still completely closed and blocked by snow.
I have to say, the eastern sierras are about my favorite place in the US.
Yep, doing a combo of boon docking and campsites is a great way to go. Bigger rig is nice but seems to add a little more stress during the setup and takedown.
Heading out for 3 to 4 weeks in near future. Colder weather, less crowds , better fishing hopefully. Take care!
Yes! It definitely seems like we’re heading into the shoulder season of camping and it’s getting a lot less busy out here nowa’ 👍 enjoy your trip!
Great video guys!!! Thouroughly enjoyed the trip out, trip in, and all the things in between!!!
Number 1 on the list for you to get over is the pin stripes on your rig you acquire as you transit in/out of boondocking spots and RV parks. We have full body paint on our 48’ TH and are set up for drycamping as well, and it was hard for us to accept at first, but some of the minor ones you can buff out…you know what they say, boondocking with a big rig is a contact sport😂😂
Number 2 potable is pronounced, “pah-tuh-ble.” A lot of RVers say it wrong and so did I when I first went in the Navy. Learned from an old salty sailor the correct way to say it and he actually spelled it out for me the same way.
Sooo jealous of you guys solar set up. You have caused me to seriously consider adding xtra.
Keep the great videos coming, we really enjoy watching you experiences and the 2 doggos we just love!!!
👍😃🍻
I have a similar system to yours with our 392MBL 5th wheel, dual Victron's, 600ah of Battleborn, solar on the roof. I would utilize a 12v battery that feeds the RV's 12v system that draws from your 24v->12v DC/DC converters. The reason is that lower impedance of an actual 12v lithium battery will source instantaneous high current draws that your LCI auto-leveler will demand. This would be better than relying on those two step down regulators to source that. Connecting an oscilloscope up to the 12v power rail while the auto-lever is in action would probably reveal instantaneous surges far above the rating of your step down converter (The rating listed is average, not peak amps), forcing the system to rely on your step down converter output capacitance to supply this demand. I think an actual battery would be better served here. This could be accomplished by using just a small 15aH small LiPo connected right up to your RV's 12v power rail. With your two 24v to 12v regulators keeping it well supplied with 12v power, It really should never discharge so including a charger for it shouldn't be necessary. Another option would be to utilize some super caps hanging on the 12v RV connection from Digikey that could serve the same purpose as the small LiPo. I'm an Electrical Engineer so I've been experimenting with going that route on my rig with both options. Something I may make a video for.
Yes you do absolutely want to see the Bristlecone Pines. Happy travels🎉
Thanks for showing off your independent suspension. That freshwater fill is about 20’ too close to the dump site. And they’re not scratches, it’s custom pin stripping. We had to bug out of FL for the hurricane. Safe travels.
Oh, yeah these hurricanes are crazy lately. Stay safe out there Rick!
When they're close like that I'll usually wash off the water spigot just to be safe, but realistically it's fine.
Most people brush their teeth in their bathroom. Go check out how much a regular flush toilet spreads micro droplets around the entire bathroom 😢.
Anyway, he's got a standard in line filter and the clear source. He could probably pump from black to fresh and be OK 😂.
You were lucky to find anything here this time of year, it’s been crazy busy! Yes it’s The Sierras
Thanks for another great video. Great day when you upload one.
Great road trip !! As always BS & BK & BC !!
I would put a 12 volt 100 amp/hr lithium battery fed by the orions to give you the surge amps for the jacks and slides, cheap insurance. You could pull 100 amps from the 12 v battery and another 100 from the orions.
Hey, y'all drove right by my hometown of Ridgecrest, CA on your way from Big Bear to Mammoth Lakes!! I also used to be right up there in the Arrowhead/Big Bear area every year as a Youth Leader for our Church Camp. The bugs aren't always that bad, a wet year and now a hot summer, yikes they're terrible!! Hope to see you ya in the road sometime. I'll be in an 2022 ORV GP F28RKS towed by a 2011 RAM 3500!
WE USED TO CAMP AT HANNA FLATS IN BIG BEAR
Mono Lake- Navy Beach. Walk 300 yards clockwise (left)on shore trail... for beautiful hot spring experience
Great video! I hope to go out West next year. Really like your videos guys....
As you mentioned, you could put a water meter (like Save A Drop) on both the black tank flush and fresh water. That way you can track how much water you put in.
Another option would be to get the Mopeka water take sensors for the fresh and gray tanks. They say they don't work for the black tank.
FYI Speedway Gas Station in Bishop accepts donation as payment. Great video! If in Mammoth area check out Bodie State Park
Yes, the campgrounds and sites are much fuller this year than last, all across the country.
Love watching you two! Love the new RV! Enjoy!
I bought a water meter on Amazon that fits on your hose fittings and measures the amount of water flowing. I use one because sometimes I only want about 20 or 30 gallons and not the full 65 gallons in my tank.
Thanks for always inspiring and giving me a name, pavement princess... love that. Safe travels!
😂yes! It’s funny and fitting for many of us. 😊
I agree with you Aaron. A sensor panel in the water bay would be very convenient. I fill mine until it overflows also. I've seen recently that there is a manufacturer that dies this. They also have outside switches for the slides.
Looks like a beautiful spot where you set up. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks Frank!
I think I would have a water tester for the fresh water fill with it being so close to the dump station
What an amazing dog park. Yea California. June and Louie seem to be great little travelers. It was great to see you cross over “ the border”. I’m biased, but you’re heading in the right direction😉
IM GLAD YOU STOPPED AT THE BAKERY
You should watch the Humphrey Bogart movie “High Sierra” when you’re in the Lone Pine area. Much of it was filmed near there. You can reenact the climatic chase scene with your truck/RV.
Get a flow meter to put on the fresh water hose and the faucet
Thanks for sharing this journey with me. God Bless Y'all. Safe Travels Always. Mucho Love From Your Friend In Michigan Tam 💜💜💜💜
Same to you! Thanks! 😊
The Mammoth area is beautiful, but it's always very very busy. Just my opinion, but now that you have a larger rig you probably need to resign yourselves to some scratches - even though I know you are very careful. Hope you enjoyed this spot!
Boondocking using less water is challenging for maintaining black tanks and sensors. You need to flush the tank using lots of water. You could use a flow meter to measure the amount of fresh water you are putting in the tank.
Nice water filtration system I am seeing on your rig!
looks like you found a wonderful spot for a few days. Very pleasant video.....as always, safe travels.
😊 thank you!
Wow, you were in our neck of the woods in Mammoth❤️
Check and fix up your e-bikes for water proofness and mount it on the front bumper for ease of use such as this!
The next time your near June Lake
Camp at “Oh Ridge”
Enjoyed your video! Beautiful country.Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Wingman! 😊
I would just wanna go to bed and deal with all that in the morning lol, great full travel day !
If you are still in the Mammoth Lakes area, you should definitely drive north and check out the June Lake loop. We stay at Silver Lake Campground every year. Another place not to miss is Mono Lake… It’s one of my favorite places in the world. Enjoy your stay! We will be there for 10 days in October!
Have y’all considered adding an incinerator toilet?
Someone else here: I didn't even know these existed! Thank you for this comment. I have some research to do but it looks like this might solve a major problem for me.
So fun watching this episode as we had just had dinner at Seasons Restaurant in Lone Pine this night you posted your video. We go here every year after our Mammoth vacation for two weeks. ❤❤
Oh fun! Great area for sure!
Beautiful spot ❤
Oh my goodness, your Owen road experience sure brought back memories of last year for us!! We camped there but it was packed when we went too, and we ended up down one of those “questionable” narrow side roads 😅 we found a spot to fit us but had to pull off and scout ahead a few times! Really beautiful area though, we loved it
Oh wow...sooo popular! Definitely a beautiful area and we wished we stayed a bit longer. This would have been was one of those 2 weekers for us! But, we had a reso in Lake Tahoe planned and we only stayed 4 short days! Maybe we'll run into ya guys one day. 👍
Love the 395 along the Easter sierras. Some really good BLM campgrounds out that way. Lone Pine is a fun little town. The brittle cone pines are well worth the trip. Don’t forget to visit Manzanar historic site.
You might consider putting a 12V battery after the 24 to 12v converter. That would smooth out the amp load on the converter when the slides come in.
or a 12v group 31 capacitor bank. A battery would work too but a capacitor is a heck of a lot cheaper
You guys should do a camp out near area. 51......The alien town they call it !
Builtright Industries makes a great bracket tor Ford SuperDuty dash tray. I have one to bolt my rear view camera monitor on and it works great. Looks like you have yours just sort of stuck in the dash tray.
Also one more piece of advice...don't rely on Google gps..it will get you into trouble because it does not take into account your size and weight...get an rv gps and run both for redundancy
The locals pronounce it mow-no lake. "We're not a kissing disease" -Mono County Sheriff
Try Mopeka Water Tank Sensors. Bluetooth enabled. Attach to bottom of water tanks
Ditto. Also the Mopeka Propane Sensors are great as well.
Hay Kids it's time for a Drone ? It save you allot of time
Loves is offering Rv sites
Thanks for sharing your travels. Carrying about 800lbs of water weight, do you have air bags or beefed up suspension? What is ratings on that F-350? Safe travels!
My biggest gripe with starlink is the dropped calls! I can have amazingly fast speeds and be able to do my job just fine until I’m in a video call. It’s so frustrating! Luckily my T-Mobile home internet has worked almost everywhere I’ve been.
Yes! Very frustrating!
I’m anxious to try a boon-docking experience but scared the grey tank will fill too quickly
Does your does your RV’s black tank have a self clean function? How do you manage that if not?
You will probably still have biting bugs due to the wet winter. In the Eastern Sierras there are mosquitos and deer flies that will bite By the way Chris you drive that rig like a champ!
Hi guys, I have been watching your videos for a while now. I just bought a 2024 fifth-wheel 295 MK and I would like if you guys could share info on the solar/battery system you installed on your fifth-wheel
Awesome
Do you have a greaseless 5th wheel hitch plate? If not, you should.
Yes don't trust those inside tank sensors. Another option is outside the tank sonar sensors like 'Seelevel' more accurate and don't get solids hung up on the sensors.
Do you use a water meter to see how many gallons is being put in? I think they make a digital attachment that goes on the hose.
Do you find the Truckers sites have the Potable water and the dump, and fuel when you pull in?
SeaLevel tank gauges work best.
What's the overall height of your RV and have you had any issues of being too tall for some underpasses or bridges ?
I've never hear this about completely filling the fresh water being bad. How do you know it's full other than it overflows? That's what I always do. It's vented, so it usually dribbles a bit when I first start driving after filling. But it's never harmed anything. I don't see what the concern would be. I know some people don't want to carry the weight, but I just have a 26 gallon tank in my small RV, so I don't want to have to keep stopping to refill all the time if I just do 1/4 tank at a time.
You need to hit up Tahachipi..All N on that.
The dogs look good! Y'all be careful out there!
😊🐶 Thanks!
I wonder if a drone would help with scouting out camping sites. Do they allow them?
You don't you a teflon disc for the fithwheel?
The AC's have the power regulator or what ever its called, the soft start. Is there a "soft start" for the slides?? Or for all items that have that kind of large "draw" of power? hmmm
If you get a chance try to see the town of Bodie it is near Mono Lake.
LOL.....the worst trip we ever had was taking our 3 kids to Bodie....what, no gift shops? No food? No bathrooms? All I have to do now, almost 30 years later, is say "Bodie" and they are off and running. It's a ghost town, for those who don't know......
What was the total cost of your solar power system? What is the length of your Alliance?
When you bought the Ford 350 without Dually Wheels, did you two every think you would upgrade to a larger weight 5th Wheel?
MY DAUGHTER AND FAMILY LIVED IN BIG BEAR .... THEY MOVED TO N. IDAHO
So has Aaron ever drove the new rig?
