No, but I used to watch the old Lone Ranger TV shows back in the 50's and I found out later it was filmed in Alabama Hills, along with other movies and TV shows.
You don't necessarily need to put it in 4 high once you get on dirt roads. But if they have soft sand or mud, put it in before you hit those spots, and before going up the steep hills where you might spin. Also turn off traction control, or you pickup will think you are out of control when you do hit mud, and get you stuck by applying the brakes in the middle of a soft spot.
Aaron, There should be NO grease on the Andersen hitch ball or in the coupler socket, it's in the manual. To unhitch, after you're in the parking spot, chock the trailer firmly then move your truck forward slightly maybe a 1/4 inch to relieve the from the back of the coupler.
Thank you! Yes, we read the no grease in the manual as well. It's been working much better since cleaning out the old grease the transporters used while towing it to the dealer.
I’m glad you finally made it to The Alabama Hills, they really have closed off a lot of areas to overnight camping which is really sad, but it really was over used and abused during The Pandemic and it was a huge concern for the locals and increased threats of fire. There are some areas on Movie Road that you could park your trailer but it is an area that is best scouted out before making a bad turn and taking your trailer on a 2 hour 15. Magnitude earthquake, don’t ask me how we know! The trailer did well and only 1 jar of homemade pickles broke as things flew out of the fridge and cupboards. Needless to say we won’t do that again but it really is a unique beautiful place to see and I am glad you got to see our beloved Eastern Sierra Mountains, they get even prettier as you travel North on Highway 395. Thank you for sharing, safe travels and happy camping. ~Shary~
I didn’t grow up with dogs, but when we got married, my husband wanted one. Thirty-two years and four dogs later, I can say caring for dogs has opened me up emotionally in ways I could never have anticipated. Louie is going to bring so much to your lives!
I have traveled 395 many times in the last 30 years between Nevada and the Los Angeles. The wind can be wicked. One trip our car got sand blasted, had to replace the windshield in the car. Another time I stopped in Mojave for gas, couldn’t get the car door open due to the wind.
Seems like your bikes would be a perfect tool for scouting ahead. I'm surprised you don't use them more. You could cover a lot more ground in the same same time.
Hey Guys, enjoying these longer format videos. Glad Aaron is healing and definitely good you both can do all the jobs together. Definitely gather tips and tricks for when I travel this way!
Hey Dave Thanks! We really enjoy doing the longer format as well and glad to hear you like them! The two big downsides are they take longer to edit as well as longer to upload, but its fun to tell a longer story!
Good stuff ! Just wondering about the puppy and then I realized the date you shot this. Great music choices . Do y’all ever get concerned about the leaving the trailer to explore ? Thanks for the awesome share and can’t wait to see the puppy . John
Be sure and hit Schatt’s in Bishop if you love bakeries. It’s an icon. The only thing that can ruin a place more than the public is when the government “fixes” the problem. I think there’s better ways to regulate a place than to simply close it off, especially when it’s literally our public land.
Had I known that you would be in that area I would have recommended that you visit the Bristlecone Pine Forest. It is just northeast of Big Pine and it is stunning! Bristlecone pines are some of the oldest trees in the world, some are as old as 4000 years. We drive up 395 every year on our way to Silver Lake which is north of Mammoth.
Alabama Hills definitely looks pretty cool! A number of Geo Pro campers go out there. Hopefully, we'll be able to take our future Airstream one day. Gorgeous mountains views!
@@IreneIronTravels if you drive north from lone pine, stop at big pine for the copper top bbq. Best bbq ever. Also, drive up to the Whitney portal in line pine. Closed in winter. Hike to lone pine lake.
Just watching your video... I'm from Ridgecrest and that is my back yard....I wish I could have taken you guys for a tour around...Ridgecrest has a lot going for it... with the US Navy Weapons Test station there and the jets flying around, maybe you saw them.... and then also the animal shelter there you could have gotten maybe a puppy or a beautiful rescue dog... don't rule out rescues... stay away in the summer with temperatures averaging in the 110 range....but if you go up in the mountains from 395, Kennedy Meadows is a great place to stay in the summer, it's better views than you saw down of 395...keep putting out the great content...
Definitely a cool area for sure! We didn't get to explore it that much, but we did notice a few jets flying over! Thank for the comment, appreciate it!!
Love that area along 395. So much history and many spots to stop and explore. Lots of old west tv shows filmed along with some movies filmed there. Have explored ip and down and all around. Bodie, Bishop, internment camp from WWII Really enjoying your travel blog and the background music fits in well. Great editing.
On the hitch grease....... dry lube or very thin layer..... the dust, dirt and sand will adhere to the grease and make a gummy grimy paste that acts like super glue on your moving parts... Very hard to clean out...... Brake cleaner, starting fluid will spray up inside. Stay safe guys. We are really enjoying you getting the hang of pulling the TT..... It's a process but oh so worth the effort
Puppy love !!! Well you got one and the fun will:begin . Enjoyed this entertaining video . Really love the views of the mountains and the rocks , with the dirt roads . Thank you for sharing this beautiful video with me. As always BS & BK
Hello Chris and Aaron. This is a really great video!! Your videography is really cool; especially all of those exterior shots of your driving, to include driving past the cameras. Your dialog was awesome!! It was like a magical carpet ride around the desert. From someone that has a dog, the portion about the excitement of getting a dog was incredible. They truly are a gift to life!! I haven't finished the video yet; will catch thr Alabam Hills part later. I can't wait as I have heard a preponderance of the boondocking spots have been shut down.
My wife and I really enjoy your videos...so thank you for doing them. We are getting ready to full time ourselves and I was wondering what camera and mic setup you use for your general video shooting? Your feedback is very much appreciated. Stay safe. Dwight
I’ve been to Alabama Hills a couple times doing docking and I have always put it in four-wheel-drive it’s a lot easier on the tires and peace of mind so you don’t get stuck hopefully 🙏 it is definitely a windy place when I’ve been there
We just left there today. Spent about a week and had wicked winds a few days then a couple of good ones, then very strong winds returned and the temp dropped. We packed up and headed out... we’re done with the wind!! why 2 high? I use 4 high when spinning on the gravel.
Check out the Inyo County campgrounds. Tinnemaha Creek is a personal favorite, a little sheltered from the wind. Don’t miss Keough Hot Springs… Oh, thanks for sharing!
Hope you got a chance to see the Oyler house in Lone Pine..... Iconic home built in 50s... Famous designer Mr. Nuetra I believe... Along the lines of a Frank Loyd Wright home. Way ahead of it's time in the 50s... Lone Pine has just beautiful views of the Alabama Hills
Good to see the Videos are catching up to the addition of Louie. When I saw Christine weeping, I thought your TV was temporarily locked into the “Sci-if” network channel. Day old Baked Goods are fine but if the pastries have Mold spots, you can just eat around the spores. 🤢
@@IreneIronTravels In my opinion, the Hobbit and LOTR Movies are considered “Fantasy” Fiction more than “Science” Fiction. If the Movie/Show Happens in Outer Space, its Not for Christine.
Just remember that if you get stuck in 4 wd, you are seriously stuck. Never unhitch if you get stuck as it will make getting the trailer out close to impossible. I normally go into 4wd high if off road as it’s easier on the truck towing on dirt roads. Spreads the power train loads on the whole truck. I try not to NEED the 4wd to get to places as it’s a total drag to get the truck and trailer unstuck when off the road. You certainly got the winds ! Stay safe, Bill in Utah
I’ve watched several videos of RVers with similar rigs to yours who have had some nasty accidents, so it makes me realize just how dangerous pulling a 27+ foot trailer using a trailer hitch can be. So you guys be super vigilant while on the road.
Great job on your B roll. Lot of nice setups in ! You put in the time to get all the shots. Very cinematic. Took some on editing this one. Love the tear close up on Chris. I felt that one in my Heart !!!
Alabama Hills.... reminds me of Texas Canyon down on interstate 10 east of Phoenix...... Flintstone rocks..... Fred Flinstones Bedrock city was inspired by the Alabama hills area, they say!!
Good video 😃 lone pine is in same area as Alabama hills good hike at Mount Whitney might be to much for two just take a look highest mountain in the lower 48 you share can tell your new to towing truck and trailer 😀
Your videos blow me away (and nearly you too). LOL Don’t know if this will be something you two can use (or would want to), but just saw another video about how “Love’s adds rv sites” to their gas station sites. They are positioned away from the pumps and have both 30 and 50 amp hookups. Maybe water too. Chris, Did you collect that special 2/22/22 @ 2:22 “gift” from Aaron!?! If so, was it magical!?! LOL
We just found your channel and are loving it! You two are awesome! Thanks for sharing your adventures and life. We are at the beginning stages of our seasonal travel. South Dakota is beautiful, however last fall we went to Texas for 2 months and now are planning AZ this fall and early winter! Here is to happy trails in 2022! 🙌
I would agree with @rustyshakelford7934. I was always told, only on level ground mind you, keep in two high when mud riding and when you get stuck. Put the truck in 4low and go home.
Too bad there were clouds covering the tops of the Sierras at 27:00. There's a great view of Mt. Whitney from Lone Pine, but the clouds were covering it.
Hi, we went their alot, Turtle Creek, was where we camped mostly cause the kids could fish in the creek, Whitney portal Is a great place to see And if you get to Bishop go to Pleasant Valley you can camp there also right on the river But this time of year it's gonna be cold all through that Valley Thanks for sharing the views I miss it I now live in Missouri in the ozarks...something no one has told you is, don't take your chains off until your off the ball, it's a important safety tip, your trailer could roll on you...and chock your trailer wheels on both sides 👍
@Irene Iron Travels I don't know if you're still in the area, my cousin from Reno, boondocks all thru there, theirs a few spots close to hot springs 😊 stay warm, I've been all over the place and that's in my top 5 places to see...
Sitting here in Mazatlan, Mexico at 75 high and 55 low. I think the Baja may call you next winter. Summer in Colorado, send a PM. Before that, it will be Mothers Day in Milwaukee via the 20 in Nebraska and Iowa. Yes, you should check out the town parks in Nebraska and the State Parks in Iowa (for camping) on your way to the Minnie-Apple, and all of the bike trails on the way. Bien viajes.
Too bad about Alabama Hills. Textbook "a few ruined it for the many". Going to be mostly day use and reservation on Recreation.Gov after they upgrade the toilets, etc. No more first come first served as in the old days. Very sad indeed.
Making us want to be desert 🌵 rats, fun stuff. How are the Rads working out on the back of your trailer. Just took delivery of a 24rks and considering transporting our full size Rads on the rear trailer receiver.
Yes! We have not had any issues with them on the rear at all. Seems to be holding up really well. Still need to relocate the spare tire for the trailer so its not taking up space in the back of the truck bed though!
@@IreneIronTravels I was looking at an under mount for the spare. I think the name of the company is Bal, some pics of installation on the ORV owners Facebook Thanks
Yes, it was strikingly beautiful out there for sure. We have a hefty trailer hitch lock, a couple wifi cloud security cameras, and some motion alarms. We are also going to add a GPS tracker as well...just because. But for the most part its pretty safe out in the boonies....
I would worry so much leaving my travel home out in the middle of nowhere. Do you just hope and pray for the best while your gone shopping, laundry, exploring?
I totally understand were you are coming from.....but its not much difference from leaving your house for the day or parking your vehicle somewhere.Theft and burglary can happen anywhere. The odds of someone randomly coming out to BLM land and trying to steal an 10,000lb RV would be pretty rare it think. We do of course have an expensive hitch lock, camera system, and soon to be GPS tracking added!
It's hard to compare without them, because we added the snap pads the day we got our RV. But, I'll say I did that because we have the auto level system and I think that is where they are most beneficial. Using a plastic foot pad does the same thing, but I think its nice to not have to mess with those as we move about once a week. If we were only using our RV a couple times a year it would not be worth the price, but we do really like having them!
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for the advice. I will hold off on getting them, since I’m a weekend warrior. Keep up the great work with your videos and thanks for sharing. God bless you guys.
We live in San Diego and are big time desert campers being since the 70’s as kids, camped in many a wind storm, from tent to trailer, so we are very superstitious when it comes to wind, going as far to say we aren’t allowed to use the “W” word so it won’t jinx us! 😂🤣
Aaron and Chris, love the channel and your enthusiasm for the desert. Am a native Iowan, but, spent my USAF days on the High Desert (Victorville, CA), then, to the San Jose area post-dischg. During my time in the north, found the Central Valley (south of Sacramento) and grew very fond of the desert; always surprised me at how cold in can get in the winter months! Since you tow with the Andersen hitch, would love seeing a review (and video) on your hookup and hitching procedures (espec when not perfectly lined up). Y'all Be Safe! PS - The goodies picked up at the Lone Pine Bakery looked great (even if day old); make good pairing with strong coffee in the AM!!
Hello, and thank you!!😊 It is an easy area to love for sure. We are planning on doing a few 6 month reviews on the RV and we will have to do on one the hitch as well! And Chris loved the bakery !😋
In the last 10 years Alabama Hills got overrun with RVs, small campers, etc. It used to be a nice place to camp, but no longer. Way too many people. I'm happy they are shutting off large areas from camping. Campers were camping in places you just wanted to sights see, and you go there and people are camped there and some campers get upset because you want to see the wondrous place but you are intruding on their "campsite". Also, the trash. Even still most weekends during good weather, almost any nice spot to sight see has someone camping in it. You should have driven through Tuttle Creek BLM campground. $8/night last I was there. Most sites will hold your RV. More than 1/2 hold my 35' 5th wheel Toy Hauler. You may need to do a bit of manual leveling to get your trailer close (especially on the South side of the Creek). Avoid Memorial Day weekend and opening fishing weekends (there is an early opener in the Southern Sierras). Cell Service is decent from Tuttle Creek - line of sight to Lone Pine (Verizon). We camp in the desert a lot. I think we had planned on that same weekend (very near Trona), but based on the weather (wind) canceled. I always look at the weather and wind direction/speed predictions, so when I setup I try to face my trailer in the direction of what is going to be the prevailing wind (especially if the wind speed is going to be constant above 20 mph). Less than 20 mph, can kind of use the trailer as a wind block - above 20 mph for a long period I want to face into the wind so I sleep better.
If you head for Northern California. Oroville Lake or Lake Almanor area let me know. Take you for a lake tour. It is fun to watch you as our trailer layout is identical. S & T Travel Adventures on TH-cam.
My mistake - at the 10:25 mark you showed a similar rig going down the road beside you, and without thinking I go it in my head that it was you guys. Chalk this up to a Senior Moment.
We use a 3 camera system in most of our videos. Main is a Sony A7c with Sigma art lenses. 24mm-70mm & 12mm-24mm, f2.8. Then a Go Pro Hero 8 for outside driving and action shots... as well as a I phone 13 pro at times as well. 😊
Christine says she knows what that is like….having to elevate your foot. She says she is glad she doesn’t have to do it anymore. We are sure you will be too.
@@IreneIronTravels That is a reason to come back to Fossil Falls. Maybe just a few hours on your way to another destination along the route. A few years ago took my elderly Dad and brothers up to Lone Pine, stopped by Fossil Falls towing the 5th wheel - I parked in the BLM "campground" and walked to the Falls from there. It was in June, about 90 degrees on black volcanic rock, I enjoyed it - not so much my Dad. While you are exploring the area from Mono Lake south - lookup the history of the Los Angeles Aqueduct - Mullholand. That will explain a lot of what you are seeing. And if you do spend a day or two in Lone Pine - visit the WWII Japanese Intermittent Camp between Lone Pine and Independence - quite humbling.

Part of what makes 395 so amazing is all the roads into the sierras. Tioga Pass, June Lake, Rock Creek, Mammoth Lakes. The further north the better.

If you all head north on 395, you have to check out Bodie and Mono Lake.
We didnt get that far...but we will be back for sure! Thanks HB!
I’ve watched several videos of RVers with similar rigs to yours who have had some nasty accidents, so it makes me realize just how dangerous pulling a 27+ foot trailer using a trailer hitch can be. So you guys be super vigilant while on the road.
We will...thank you Bill!😊
Like boondocking on the moon. I bet the stars are beautiful though! I’d be losing my RV if I left - Siri find my RV!
My favorite video so far! Well worth the wait!
Wow, thanks! Appreciate the feedback!😊
Great job on your B roll. Lot of nice setups in ! You put in the time to get all the shots. Very cinematic. Took some on editing this one. Love the tear close up on Chris. I felt that one in my Heart !!!
Have you been to Alabama Hills?
Yes I have many time. Love to practice mountain climbing there. When I was a younger man !
Ohh yeah mountain climbing would be pretty epic there!😍
Much appreciated, thank you for noticing the hard work that goes into these!😊
Beautiful place the Alabama Hills, Erin be careful with the ankle take it slow 🐌. Enjoy the rest and be safe...
For sure!!
Engaging rear lockers should be done very slow or stopped fyi, great show
Alabama Hills.... reminds me of Texas Canyon down on interstate 10 east of Phoenix...... Flintstone rocks..... Fred Flinstones Bedrock city was inspired by the Alabama hills area, they say!!
I love it! I can see the inspiration of the flintstones!
If your on a dry hard surfaced road stay in 2WD. Mud, sand, wet grass etc go to 4High. Once your stuck 4WD will normally just get you more stuck.
Thanks Buzz!
Good video 😃 lone pine is in same area as Alabama hills good hike at Mount Whitney might be to much for two just take a look highest mountain in the lower 48 you share can tell your new to towing truck and trailer 😀
Thanks for the info!
Your videos blow me away (and nearly you too). LOL
Don’t know if this will be something you two can use (or would want to), but just saw another video about how “Love’s adds rv sites” to their gas station sites. They are positioned away from the pumps and have both 30 and 50 amp hookups. Maybe water too.
Chris, Did you collect that special 2/22/22 @ 2:22 “gift” from Aaron!?! If so, was it magical!?! LOL
Thanks Joe! Thats kinda crazy that Loves is adding RV sites....but it makes sense with the times!! 🤫 can't talk about the special gift...🤣
Hey 👋 guys! Appreciate you watching and have a fun travel season. So much beauty to see in this country and what an amazing way to travel😊
since your on 395N how far you going up? there’s a petrified forest along the way up and two hot springs near bridgeport ( travertine and buckeye)
Great video and this area is beautiful and the Ridgecrest area is always windy. Safe travels
It sure is! Thank you! 😊
Teamwork wins all the time you got this
😊🤙
I agree about the wind,it can be exhausting. Another great video.
Thanks 👍
I would agree with @rustyshakelford7934. I was always told, only on level ground mind you, keep in two high when mud riding and when you get stuck. Put the truck in 4low and go home.
Hope you make it to the camp spots in Red Rock Canyon. Protected from the wind.
From the Ford site: Note: The electronic locking differential is not available in 2H. So...yes, go ahead and put it in 4H when you hit the dirt.
It is on the 2018 that I drive. Up to 25-30 mph? Just turn it on and it works fine in 2 wd.
Our rear E locker does seem to work in 2wd....maybe something on the Tremor....
Hey Dave, thats a great tip! Thank you!
@Irene Iron Travels we seen a lady's trailer going rolling and stopped when it hit a tree 🌳 😳
😳
@Irene Iron Travels I don't know if you're still in the area, my cousin from Reno, boondocks all thru there, theirs a few spots close to hot springs 😊 stay warm, I've been all over the place and that's in my top 5 places to see...
There is a nut under the coupler, just don’t make it to lose
Sitting here in Mazatlan, Mexico at 75 high and 55 low. I think the Baja may call you next winter. Summer in Colorado, send a PM. Before that, it will be Mothers Day in Milwaukee via the 20 in Nebraska and Iowa. Yes, you should check out the town parks in Nebraska and the State Parks in Iowa (for camping) on your way to the Minnie-Apple, and all of the bike trails on the way. Bien viajes.
We definitely should do Baja..it looks soooo nice!! Thank you and enjoy that weather!!
Sean and Christy of Long, Long Honeymoon like Alabama Hills, too. It looks very nice!!!
They have good taste in camping for sure!!😊
Kris, I notice you lean quite a bit while driving, doesn't that bother your back,I know I lean back on long drives.
Little LOUIE YES CONGRATULATIONS
I’m with you, wind is my nemesis!
Yesss!💨
I think the name of the company is Bal, some pics of installation on the ORV owners Facebook
Thanks
Keep going, y'all! Love the vids! Itching for rv season to open here in Canada...
Appreciate you watching!!!
Beauty scenery you guys got to experience, I’m sure the video doesn’t do it justice. How do you handle security of your trailer when you are away?
Now that you’ve had the snap pads for a little while. What do you think about them? Do you see a difference from not having them and having them now?
It's hard to compare without them, because we added the snap pads the day we got our RV. But, I'll say I did that because we have the auto level system and I think that is where they are most beneficial. Using a plastic foot pad does the same thing, but I think its nice to not have to mess with those as we move about once a week. If we were only using our RV a couple times a year it would not be worth the price, but we do really like having them!
They're a complete Waste of money
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for the advice. I will hold off on getting them, since I’m a weekend warrior. Keep up the great work with your videos and thanks for sharing. God bless you guys.
We live in San Diego and are big time desert campers being since the 70’s as kids, camped in many a wind storm, from tent to trailer, so we are very superstitious when it comes to wind, going as far to say we aren’t allowed to use the “W” word so it won’t jinx us! 😂🤣
🤣💨 Ha! We don't blame ya! We won't say it any more🤣
So does puppy finally make his debut next week? I'm so excited for you. ❤️🐶
Yessssss!!🐶🐶 Thanks Frank, appreciate it!!😊
Aaron and Chris, love the channel and your enthusiasm for the desert.
Very good info Mike, thank you for sharing!! Good to know about Tuttle Creek!
Second the Tuttle Creek recommendation, normally we boondock but really loved that campground.
If you head for Northern California. Oroville Lake or Lake Almanor area let me know. Take you for a lake tour. It is fun to watch you as our trailer layout is identical. S & T Travel Adventures on TH-cam.
Oh no….the video ended before we got to see the burgers😂
Great vid! :) How much shake is there in the trailer in 30-40 mph winds?
Not as much as we would have thought. It did really well, but it probably helped keeping it around 50-55 mph.
Since you were in Lone Pine, it is a shame you didn't stop up at Cerro Gordo and visit Brent. Ghost Town Living TH-camr.
Oh, we hadn't heard of him. Just looked him it! Pretty cool, thanks for letting us know!
See any giant worms? Tremors and many other movies were filmed there. :)
I loved Tremors growing up as a kid! Kevin Bacon!🤣
In heavy stay connected to truck while camping
Bad year for wind this year.
4wd in any dirt that is at all soft or steep.
Great video! Check out 85 Degrees bakery. You'll love it!
Thanks for the tip!
Haha, my backyard!!!
Where does the puppy ride when you travel?
He rides in the truck in a travel create. Have only moved once so far with him and he did great!!
How did you film the rig going down the road from behind and to the right ?
Do you mean at the 5:40 mark? That was hanging my arm out the window with the GoPro on a 3 foot tripod for a down low angle.
My mistake - at the 10:25 mark you showed a similar rig going down the road beside you, and without thinking I go it in my head that it was you guys. Chalk this up to a Senior Moment.
Ahhhhh yesss. That was just another RVer going down 395😊
What kind of video camera do you use?
We use a 3 camera system in most of our videos. Main is a Sony A7c with Sigma art lenses. 24mm-70mm & 12mm-24mm, f2.8. Then a Go Pro Hero 8 for outside driving and action shots... as well as a I phone 13 pro at times as well. 😊
Christine says she knows what that is like….having to elevate your foot. She says she is glad she doesn’t have to do it anymore. We are sure you will be too.
Yes, thank you!! I've finally seen some good progress 2 months later! Well two and half now....🤣
Shhh! 395 best kept secret. Our favorite as Native Californians.
So good!🤫
Did you explore Fossil Falls itself?
No we didn’t unfortunately …. Only ended up spending two nights there as we left early to go pick up the pup. It was really beautiful there though!
Get a rescue dog... They can't be beat!
Good vid guys.
Thanks 👍
Nice Twins hat.
😊 Thank you!
So how was the burger?! LOL.
🤣 It wasn't' the best....but their fries were amazing!
Love you guys💕
😘😘 Ahhhh right back atcha Mary 😊
Where's Louie??
We picked him up the next weekend after this!
