      Dude same this popped up in my recommended today and this was around the year i started getting into baseball as a kid and its crazy seeing all these familiar faces for the first time in so long. Time really flies.

      Pitch counts are stupid. Some games pitchers get locked in and go 150+ , other games they have nothing and cant even give you 30 pitches. Coaches just need to talk to the players and watch with their own eyes on how a players is feeling that day.

    Several days later, the Mets' R.A. Dickey threw a one-hitter against the Rays in Tampa, and that "hit" was an error. So I guess that evened itself out for the "foul" that BUMtran hit.

    I was in the arena during this game making kettle korn. After the 7th inning we shut down and stood in the stands to watch the rest of this game. It was electric and the buzz was crazy.

    I'm so conflicted about this no-hitter. It's our only one so I cherish it, but it cost Mike Baxter his career and led to Santana's shoulder issues. I wish that it was a cleaner game.

    "IT HAS HAPPENED!" I won't ever forget Gary Cohen's exciting words.
    And what's so ironic about this, the Mets have had so many great pitchers throughout their history: Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Matlack, Gooden, Darling, Cone, and so on. But none of them ever threw a no-hitter as a Met. But Johan Santana did!

    Two Mets players who gave their bodies for that no-hitter. Mike Baxter and Johan Santana. At least Baxter didn't have the pressure in his position that Johan Santana did after this game. Poor Santana never pitched a good game again (statistically speaking).

      @@w7lves But you gotta imagine if Collins put in one of the 7 scrubs in that 2012 Mets bullpen and immediately blew it, he'd be blamed for that forever as well. It was truly a catch-22. I'm not a fan of Collins, but he gambled and got it right

    How quickly people forget how absolutely dominant Johan was. It's too bad injuries cut his career short. He was an all-timer.

    Came home from Grocery Shopping, had the game DVRed, started watching as I was putting stuff away with my mother and girlfriend, about half way through the game all three of us were glued to the TV... I was so fucking nervous, but man that built up tension turned into amazing relief when it finally happened. My mom was beside herself the second half of the game, she was somehow more nervous than me.
    Needless to say we all enjoyed an adult beverage afterwards, what a night.

    Bittersweet as a Met fan. That was Santana's last "good" game, as his arm was never the same. Happy that he got it (and that the Mets finally got a no hitter), but hate that it likely prematurely ended Santana's career.

    This guy Santana is the Definition of a Hall Of Famer. Gives you 100%, is all HEART, Humble, Selfless, and straight up Tough. How this guy is not in the Hall is beyond me. He played for 2 of the worst teams in Baseball. God look at this game only 2 made it in life, and 1 ended up being a career ender in Wright. Murphy only one, everyone else 1-3 years in the league and gone.

      It's weird to look back at that team! They were actually 1 game back of the Nats for 1st place after this game (even holding one of the WC spots). They were 4.5 games back of 1st at the AS break and only a half game back of a WC spot. It was of course all a matter of the law of averages (and David Wright turning into A-Rod for half a season), but it's so cool to look back sometimes!

    I remember pitching a no hitter back when I was in high school , it was terrifying every time a batter hits the ball I don’t know I just have an inner freak out wether it’s a fly ball in the outfield or a grounder but then they make the out

    FUDGE ALL.OF YOU WHO SAY THIS ISNT A NO-HITTER and a historic moment in our team's history. Umpires since the beginning of baseball time have made mistakes on calls and some umpires have lost no hitters because of umpire calls. We're one of them. It happens. It's a no-hitter in the record books to me! Thank you NOHAN!

      Announcers can mention it. The players themselves are not supposed to mention it. There’s nothing about the announcers not mentioning it.

      It WAS/IS a no hitter because the umpires ruled that ball foul. It is rightfully in the books as a no hitter. End of story. You play the shoulda/woulda/coulda game, everyone’s gonna have a gripe.
