shlinda1...you have SAVED ME! let me tell you..a sister was 2 steps from giving up on her natural hair after YEARS of breakage and struggling to figure out a hair care regimen that works for me. I personally believe God's mercy brought me to this video and let me tell you to all the low po naturals struggling, Shlinda1's method works! My hair couldnt be more softer and my shedding has reduced to an all time LOW! Clarifying as she states is KEY! this has helped the products I use actually work and not just sit on top of my hair strand. Nonetheless, Thank you for this video. Keep vlogging with confidence 'cause I'll certainly keep watching and learning. Be Blessed.

This is one of the best videos I've seen educating Naturalistas about their hair. The message you're preaching in this video about understanding your hair's porosity is a factor for choosing products. I earliest assumption for caring for my daughters dense, low porosity afro was to buy the best butters and oils. Now, I understand why her hair stayed full of product yuck between washes. Understanding her hairs porosity made me switch up my whole routine and product cabinets. I use grapeseed and jojoba oil, DC is a cornerstone to the moisturizing on wash day, glycerin based styling products. The point is wish I would've met you sooner. This video is the truth and a gospel.

OMG!! This is it Shlinda. I needed this so bad Glory be to God thank you Shlinda. Very informative and right on point. My hair is really suffering right now from a bad flat iron which I didn't clarify my hair first to remove all build up before flat ironing. Since I have low porosity hair now which I think I never had before until I have heat damage. My strands feels so rough in the front perimeter of hair. I've did all the clarifying etc but never did the correct way by using warm water til the end if all this make sense. I'm going to try every step in order on my next wash day. Thanks again for sharing this info. Mattie💕

Gonna see what changes happen in the next few months. I'm going to warm up EVERYTHING. Cleanse with ACV, warm deep condition, warm rinse, warm leave in and then cold shot and style. I did this yesterday and my hair was in HEAVEN.

This video has saved me from wanting to pull my hair out!!! I did the porosity test years ago but couldn't remember what level my hair was and even forgot that it is an important factor in natural hair care/styling. I would have some short success with my hair staying moisturized for a day or so, but soon it would be dry and frizzy again. I would add more products, after already adding product upon product (on wash day) and then oils to fight the dryness and frizz. My 3c/3b curls would be a BIG greasy, limp mess! Tired of the struggle, I decided to do research again on combating dry, frizzy, brittle hair, that's when I rediscovered hair porosity. I did the test, found I had low porosity and started doing research on that specifically, that's when I came across your video, now I believe my hair will be saved. YES!!!!

thank you so... much for your videos . I could not figure out why my hair was not holding moisture. I kept putting more and more products with no results. I did the test and found out that I have low porosity hair. So all the heavy butters and oil that I was using was part of the problem. Spraying and rinsing my hair with warm water made a difference. Now my hair holds moisture and has shine, I even notice an increase in hair length . I also love the way you present and explain your information. I am now a fan and a follower. Thank you.

THIS VIDEO CHANGED THE WHOLE GAME FOR ME. My hair was growing well but I never understood how i just piled and piled product on my hair and it was STILL dry and oily and disgusting. For us low porosity naturals coconut oil is a NO NO... for me at least lol because it hardens and CANT penetrate our low porosity hair strands. and just leaves our hair oily. I now know how to care for my low porosity hair and it has NEVER been this soft and moisturized in my life!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. It honestly has been revolutionary for me! It makes all the difference in the world having the knowledge of what your porosity is. I thought I had medium porosity (and may in some areas) but mainly I have low porosity. Your video was very detailed and packed full of helpful information. I have always used hot/warm water on my hair because I noticed my hair conformed quicker, but I didn't know there was a reason. I've been natural for a year and would notice build up on my hair and scalp about 9 months out and couldn't figure out why. Now I know! Thanks again. If you could rate videos as top 5 or 10 'need to know" as a natural this should be in the top 2.

Hi. I'm white my 4th child has low porosity 4c hair, all my kids different textures, I spend a lot on my kids hair products. I was treating my baby according to her 4c and I just presumed all 4c was hard to retain moisture but now I'm treating the hair according to these videos I've found on being low porosity. Found your video very informative and easy and entertaining to watch. Having Caucasian hair I'd rinse my own with cool water and this is a step I've been doing with my baby too 😔. Thank you, greetings from the UK 🇬🇧

Gurlllllll you are a hair saver! I am so grateful for your life, knowledge and this video! Its one of the videos which I has really helped me. My hair ain't crusty dry no more!! Hallelujah! Can I get an Amen! lol *break dance*
The only suggestion I would make is that you can deep condition your hair first without wetting it (I use the SheaMoisture Black Jamican casor oil hair masque) then I sit under a low heat steamer for 10 mins to open up my cuticles to suck in all dat goodness already my hair feels hydrated and silky to the touch before heading to the shower. You may also spritz your hair with warm water then apply deep conditioner and also use the steamer which equally gives the same effect.
    Love you Shalinda xx

I was using protein treatment butters kitchen concoctions I thought I had it. Out the window everything I had I've started completely over. Warm water gave me soft bounce weight lifted. It's been a rejuvenating few months . Thank u for this.

I truly loved, loved, loved your video and how you truly broke this subject on low porosity down to a science and easy to understand. I am educating myself on taking better care of my low porosity, very fine, thin and soft natural hair (started reading the Science of Black Hair for the second time around) and I purchased a bonnet hair dryer today for deep conditioning.
You hit the nail right on the head when you said how products sits on top of our hair. Earlier this week, I did a mid-week deep conditioning treatment on my hair using my steamer (I try to deep condition my hair twice a week, Saturdays, is shampoo or herbal powder and Wednesdays, I do a co-wash and deep condition), when I tell you, it looked just like I had applied the conditioner on my head after I got from under the steamer, I was like, okay, time to do more research, get a hooded dryer and up my game on my deep conditioning treatments and this video has changed the game for me.
I never would have thought to clarify my hair once a week, due to product buildup. However, I know that you are right, because my hair looks horrible and it has only been a full day since I did my mid-week co-wash session and my hair appears to be greasy, when I did not put that much product in it.
Could you do a video as to what or how we should handle our hair when we work out. I sweat in my head and I know that this too can become an issue, if I do not learn to tackle it. Thanks again and a million times over for such a great video. By the way, you look Amazingly Beautiful. I love the entire look!!!!!

What an excellent lesson! Thank you for sharing. I can tell just from how our hair behaves what kind of porosity we have. My four girls are split down the middle. My son has high porosity hair and so do I. The high porosity folks have curl definition for days with those cone filled conditioners, while the low porosity for have major build up and dull looking hair. That is, without apply the tips you are mentioning. I plan to try your recommendations. Your hair looks fantastic!

    Hi Shlinda.
This video is fantastic, so informative and great for a newly natural. I have taken on board all of your tips.
I've had natural hair for 2 years now after just deciding to chop it off because I wanted to feel free and new and just be ME! I have thoroughly enjoyed my hair journey and am determined to continue it. I was at first down-hearted about why I couldn't do the styles that I saw on TH-cam and other media. BUT now I am happy with my hair and will continue with my journey no matter what. Also I am on this journey because I want to have healthy, non-damaging chemical products. I not so concerned with length.
The only slight problem I have is that I believe that I (like you mentioned at the beginning of the video) have a mix or low, medium or high porosity hair additionally a combination of 4 a,b & c texture hair. At the back it is loser curls, at the front a mix of lose and coiler and in the middle kinky & coily (I think I used the right terms?). Should I try different products on these areas or is it ok to use the same products. My hair feels ok at the moment but I worry for the future whether or not I am using the right products.
Keep up the clear and informative videos I am very impressed.
    Julia

Great video! I agree with everything you said about low porosity hair, because it has helped me going on 3 years now. I used to restyle my hair with cold water, but recently I realized that it's better to do so with warm water. I also do the LCO method.

Update: I followed these steps, but instead of the cold shock air, I followed up with a small amount of EVOO, styled, tied it up with a satin scarf, and allowed to dry overnight. My hair looks and feels ah-mazing! 💯 The game has just changed for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😃

Oh my god! Thank you so much for the information. I was so lost as to why my hair wouldn't retain moisture and I just found out that I have low porosity hair. You have affirmed everything I believed! I let so many people convince me not to shampoo, to be heavy handed with the products and do cold rinses. And protein is the devil I swear! I am so excited to see how my hair will flourish with these tips.
