Subaru Outback Wilderness AWD off-road X-mode test note: Incredible traction but thanks to the famous Dual X-mode! Dual-function X-MODE can help get you out of sticky conditions like deep snow and mud, where a little wheelspin can be helpful. To get the better out of X-mode, you need to let it work and not let your foot of the gas pedal. Then it will have the time to adapt and send power where it's needed! In those kind of test, you decide what mode is the best for you but don't leave it in normal mode! On the sand test hill, we prefer X-mode 2 because it turns off the TCS! You can also notice that the new CVT ratio helps the car in that challenging situation! It's among the best AWD system and most reactive we had the chance to test. If you want to go up the mountain slowly, just use the first X-mode and leave TCS on. On the other hand, if you wish to have more momentum, use x-mode in Deep Snow/Mud Mode!
So many critics but never from owners. This video displays the virtues of the transmission for the intended purpose. Silly people want to compare them to a rock crawling behemoth that are mostly uncomfortable for long road trips.
How does the outback wilderness drive compared to the crosstrek? I know the wilderness is more offroad capable but does it drive similar or alot better in terms of comfort & handling. Thanks! I love your channel
Love your videos! They helped me decide to pick up a Subaru Outback Wilderness, it is coming in at the end of January because the demand for it is huge here in Northeastern US. Where in Canada was this shot? It is beautiful! I hope to see a video of this in the snow soon. Also hope that when I bring it up to Canada that it can handle the pot holes in Montreal 😂 Keep up the great work!
You are lucky, ordered mine beginning of October and was recently told end of January. Mind you I was originally told 7-10 weeks, but like you said worth the wait. In Northeast as well
First, I want to thank you for all these great test videos! It really looks like X-Mode 2 does better in all these situations. Have you come across a time where X-Mode 1 was better? Is there any downside to just ignoring X-Mode 1 and just using X-Mode 2 in any situation? Thanks!
Yeah I was thinking a 4x4 vehicle would have no problems or very little wheel spin if any tackling anything shown here. But it's a trade off for all wheel drive where you use once in a while vs everyday driving and traction with an AWD. Kinda almost like having a little bit of both worlds with a Subaru. I have a Yukon Xl that'll get through anything but I need something smaller now for everyday driving and for getaways to the sand or mountains where I don't need to use my bus if I don't need to. Also I live in an area where I get all kinds of weather and an AWD would be a good safety benefit.
4runner 4wd. has lock differential and the car chassis is based from the truck. there's big difference between awd & 4wd if you don't know the difference you should do more research depending your personal reference or needs. good luck mate.
4 runner got low gears and frame chassis. it's more for hardcore offroading and towing stuffs around. Outback is designed for going places but not rockcrawling and abused on ruts/rocks. Overall i'd take the outback, cuz in italy is enough to go everywhere and i get higher MPG (saving gas in these times is the key)
Nice One Guys, Looks good but not much of an upgrade from the standard editions. Unlike the Crosstrek Outdoor which Buyers got the 2.5 over the 2.0. The 2.5 power is just ok In the Crosstrek Outdoor edition. Love the look however.
This comes with the 2.4 turbo you get in the onyx xt, a much better engine. Looks like subaru was testing this engine in the ascent before moving it to the outback, also this car gets the trans from an ascent with that lower gear ratio.
Subaru hasn't been getting much good press as of late. Their systems used to be a standard but now with everyone coming up with superior AWD systems that don't break, I wonder what will become of Subaru?
@@CarQuestion I was just coming across several videos across InterWeb and kept seeing how the CVT isn't holding up as well it should. I'm sure if you poke around there are things out there. Thanks for the vid!
@@aargau1 Ford Bronco Sport, for starters. Toyota has the Highlander that climbed a rockface on Sarah N Tuned channel. Even shocked her, for being a family hauling mini-van on stilts. LOL I think she mentioned the Subie couldn't do it. th-cam.com/video/skQzTZaoO1o/w-d-xo.html
That thing is a LawnMower 😂 way too much wheel spinning for nothing to my taste. Cant wait to see refinement from Subaru very disappointing performance.

For those who don't have x-mode2, best to use standard x-mode with TSC OFF to keep momentum? Is it similar behavior to x-mode 2?

Nailed it!!!
These things have insane capabilities for what they are. Im looking to trade my Accord in for one this year
Still patiently waiting on the STI roller test 😫 . Great channel. Love the wilderness Subarus
Love the dog patentily chilling knowing his owner got a SUBARUUUUU! :)
They just waited patiently for the ride back home :P
Need roller test for the ascent

Ordered mine mid November and was told February. The demand is real but well worth the weight.
@@MicajahMcCurry congrats, February will be here in no time! Which color did you get? My geyser blue is coming at the end of January.

Does the Wilderness have the adjustable leg support on the drivers seat where you can slide the front portion that is under your thigh in and out?
Going to put this in the garage. Exactly what we need and will tow our pop up easily
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos. During this test, did you have additional trans/diff guards attached?
How satisfied are you with Yokohama Geolandar AT ?

Xmode-1 is for flat icy surface where spinning will not help you. Anything else, just Xmode-2 out of it.
Sometimes I wonder if the various AWD modes are better for various conditions then a normal 4L or 4h.

Which one you would buy 4Runner or this one… I am on the fence . Some suggestions.

For mostly city driving with occasional mild offroading, the Subaru for better comfort and MPG. For more rugged terrain, the Toyota.

lets name a few of those "superior" systems, shall we?
i'm also waiting for the list.
any list of the bad press? so far we think every Subaru with a Wilderness badge has upped the game!

Subaru has become the master of ugly body cladding

This car is really unattractive and doesn’t perform as well as the cheaper Bronco Sport.
I'd take those factory tires off and put some Goodyear wranglers on there
