    I'm 64 and have never seen inflation as bad as the last 4 years! We've had high inflation in the last 50 years but never so pervasive! Whether we buy goods or services we are shocked at the level of inflation!! If inflation does not stabilize soon we are in for some real economic and cultural reality!! It's easy to see why folks want to move to more self sustainable ares of the country!! I'm trying to buy a used kubota loader tractor and the prices are depressing! Good video and presentation with practical information!!

      Yea this inflation is horrible. I agree if it does not stabilize as it will be as you stated! I'm almost thinking any extra money to put into ATV's or equipment that will hold its value. My tractor is worth more than money in the bank! We had a crazy weekend with some water issues that I need to address. It's hard to be fully self sustainable!

    a shipping container is great for fast cheap storage , 20ft container was 2k and $300 to move it . make sure they set it on blocks my guy dropped it on the ground and i had to dig holes in very hard ground to jack it up . i stored stuff in half of it and camped the other half the first winter

      That’s a great idea! I really should get a storage container for my extra stuff. I really love the idea of them and you can stack them too (though I don't need that much space)!

      I’m glad you could relate to the struggles and triumphs of moving to the country! I really with the move was 100% over but it's going to be a long path for us. I have so many unfinished projects going on and a lot of "oh I have that in storage" so I have to add it to the list and wait until I get it to start that other project!

    Great advice! The only consolation is that you're finally where you want to be.

      Yes, we are loving it here! We are so happy to be where we want to be! Well worth the hardships of moving. The old saying: nothing ventured nothing gained!

    Definitely a lot of unplanned expenses with a move...we too brought things we dont really need & left things that we do need...loving all the storage buildings Bonnie

      Yes! I think we have more storage than we need at this point! Temperature controlled storage is another thing though. From Montana would have been a long drive too I'm guessing. Probably a lot of expense just due to distance. I just realized my tractor could use some coolant and I have a bunch in storage in Wisconsin!

    I'll be sharing the mesh Starlink with my hubby. We just have to one hook up and it's spotty up here in the mountains. We do still have our other internet as well, just as back up.

      @HomesteadReliance  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I"m going to do a whole video on the Starlink setup. It has been great and the mesh wifi has surpassed what I thought we would get out of it. Only issues now are the asian beetles have infiltrated the office studio (along with hornets )just this week though. I was looking for a backup to the Starlink too just incase.

      I’m so glad you made it! We are happy in our new location, but there have definitely been some tough times as with any move!

    Yep I’m in the process of moving 8 hrs in distance. Power steering is going out on my truck that needs repaired. Not cheap to move in cost and my time packing, unpacking and multiple trips. Downsize prior to moving well in advance..yardsales and give-aways. But on the upside an older couple did come down to welcome me and brought a homemade peach pie. A cattle rancher next to my place stopped by on his 4wheeler and welcomed me and talked over an hour. I’m setting up portable solar and have gas generators and a wood stove.
    Question…. What is the entire Starlink startup?

    • @HomesteadReliance
      @HomesteadReliance  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a great idea downsizing and getting rid of as much as possible! It will definitely save you money! But make sure what you get rid of you won't need! I kept stuff that is worthless in this new area and got rid of stuff I could really use. That scrap metal and wood I had Would be of much more use than my 5 winter coats. Sounds like you have wonderful new neighbors! We did downsize a lot but I wish even more on clothing. I'm slowly getting my workshop backup too. As for starlink I will probably do a video just on that. But main part is a satellite antenna, cable, and modem/ WiFi router. That alone is about $600. Then it's about $125 a month for internet service. We have not found ANYTHING remotely close in speed and quality. My wife works remotely in video meetings all day and it is worth it. We set up a "Mesh" network by installing two more of the Gen 2 routers (now discounted at $100 each) in each building. They communicate with the main router to create a Mesh WiFi that is a wireless network system that uses multiple access points to provide a strong, reliable WiFi connection throughout our property. The studio that is our office is connected via Mesh (no cable) and our 2nd building the same (needs wifi so I can monitor the solar. Hope this was helpful

      @@HomesteadReliancegood idea. I have lots of winter stuff. But I have a lot of wood also. Good to know. I’ll keep it all. Regarding Starlink I did watch a number of TH-cam videos in western Carolina and they all said the most important things are generators (gas, propane, solar), method of cooking hot food, Starlink, water filtration, flashlights especially USB, food/water and “bang bang”.
