    I don't personally think a "overhousing" or like the version shown in this video is at all worth it considering they can still cost an additional £200-£350 here in the UK.. it doesn't actually solve any real issues, you still get the lens wiggle, length barrel breathing, doesn't fit 95mm matte boxes all it solves is to add's gears and a little bit more to grab when using it but that can be solved for £30-£50.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s valid feedback, I think the concept is pretty interesting, but you’re right, it’s a bit expensive for what it is.

  • @seanfrancis7101
    @seanfrancis7101 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    right... What about "The Creator" Lens? The rehousing for Kowa Prominar 2x lens is in the $10,000 mark! Usually $18,000 for the 75mm used on that production

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you can get this “overhouseing” made for pretty much any lens, but it’s definitely nothing near an actual rehousing. Taking apart an old lens and rebuilding it into an actual cinema housing will always be the better option, but it will also always be much more expensive

    Does rehousing give the focus ring more space between each distance ? Like usually in still lenses if you move the focus ring even a little the focus is shot far so its hard to pull focus on video with them, unlike cine lenses. Does this type of rehouse help with that?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case you don’t rebuild the focussing system, however just the nature of making the lens wider will give you just a little bit more focus throw. But I figured the Helios already has somewhat of a wide focus throw, even though you can’t expect this method to give you a high end cinema-lens focus throw, you’re gonna have to spend a bit more for that unfortunately

    what do you think about the tilta mirage? Looking for a matte box but not sure. it looks good though, as does the c5

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really like it, I use it all the time. The only thing that bothers me a bit is how strong the color shift is with the VND, but that’s easily corrected as I mention in this video: th-cam.com/video/BWpmrmyLOiM/w-d-xo.html
      But stay tuned, I’ll be reviewing a new mattebox that’s very similar but claims to have accurate colors 👀

      @sundersquare ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MortyFilms Nice one! yeah I read its colour cast is a bit warm. Hopefully you get that out soon. I'm in the US for a couple of weeks and looking to order one very soon

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sundersquare well, the new one won’t be on the market before the 31st of July, so if you want to order now, I can really recommend the Tilta Mirage, especially because it’s very modular and upgradable, so if the color shift becomes an issue, you can still just use the fixed NDs with it

    I am looking for any wide angle adapter to make my modded with anamorphic disk helios 44-2 a bit wider, can you recommend something that works good ?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I’m afraid I can’t help you, I don’t have any experience using wide angle adapters 🤔
      However, let me know if you find one, I’m curious about the look ;)

    • @Arkadiusz4321

      @@MortyFilms I've already tried very cheap one, but result was bad, hard to focus and damaged edges around, but angle view looked cool

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Arkadiusz4321 I see, I guess it’s always gonna degrade the image as you add more glass elements in front of the lens, so you probably want to look out for artifacts you find more pleasing than distracting, otherwise you’ll probably have to just choose another lens with similar characteristics to the Helios, but a wider focal length.

    • @Arkadiusz4321
      @Arkadiusz4321 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MortyFilms Yeaah I got wider lens that looks cool. Yeah exactly, I'd like to get something that changes look in pleasing way. I've seen the anamorphic adapters looks very good with helios, like blazar nero, moment or aviascope which are very expensive. I just wanted to try a cheap solution to get a wide converter to my modded helios :)) Gotta try some converters to check it out.

    Nice! Have you tried using it with focus motors? Usually photo lenses suck so much in those situations. Mine always vibrate. Does this "overhousing" solve that?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haven’t tried that yet, but it would be an interesting test. Maybe I’ll make a follow up short about that soon.

    • @JohanGassCommunications
      @JohanGassCommunications 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Yeah it is something very valuable with the ironglass rehouse. I moded my helios my self with focus gear but is impossible to make it turn smoothly with it.
      I end up focusing with my finger solo shooting but it is a reason I didn't bring my vintage photo lenses in more big set.
      Is this solution working smoothly with a follow focus?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JohanGassCommunications From my testing the cinehouseing doesn’t really make anything smoother, but the Iron Glass mod is much nicer. It feels like they actually take the lens apart and clean and lubricate them again, they are really smooth and have minimal play. Also, with the Iron Glass mod you get proper metal gearings.

    • @checkeredflagfilms
      @checkeredflagfilms 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      what I noticed straight away is the focus gearing telescopes in and out make it impossible to use a fixed focus motor. it's going to tele right off the gear throw. IDK how you can use this in a professional settings.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn’t. The only gearing that telescopes in and out is the one for the aperture, whereas the gearing for the focus stays is absolutely fixed to one spot.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I don’t think so, It’s just one guy sitting in London making everything by hand. Maybe you can get in touch and get a discount or something. Or maybe just try it out with a really cheap lens first. I don’t really know what to tell you, other than that he does have some clients in the US, but I also get your point.

    • @DynamicPhil84
      @DynamicPhil84 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MortyFilms all good man! I tried these lens rings from Cool Lux or something like that for my Zeiss Milvus lenses and they aren't really doing the trick. They are made from rubber and it just doesn't play well with follow focus systems. Need actual plastic or metal lens gears.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  ปีที่แล้ว
