      @@MediaDivision Haha! If I were TH-cam, Netflix, BBC, or other big brands I would easily fund you to have your own series of "Optical Wonders" where you have all these insane builds and videos there. I hope you get enough cash to keep it going, this is a very expensive, yet so much needed field of documentaries.

    • @MediaDivision
      @MediaDivision  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I get it, it is way to niche... not even Netflix can afford to cater to 20.000 people. TH-cam is the way, and I am very glad that our members and manufacturers like G.L makes this somewhat feasible. I just wish I could do it full time@@Bo_Hazem

    This is not just a "TH-cam video". This is a legit documentary about rehousing. The production on this one is unreal. Most of the so-called "premium" platforms don't have this kind of quality on their projects, and these guys give us FREE! This masterpiece deserves more than 5 million views instead of 50k, and this channel deserves 18 million instead of 180k. MediaDivision is the most underrated channel on TH-cam. Thank you so much for your effort and dedication to your work. God bless you.

    • @MediaDivision
      @MediaDivision  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Cheers Dicky… very much appreciated! It is hard to put out this production value on a tiny budget… thanks to our members and sponsors it is possible at all.
      I am all for millions of views and subs… but then… our subject(s) are for a tiny group of people. I have no illusions about that, and neither does TH-cam. If views would be a driving factor, I had to make videos about Botox. Thank for your kindness and for being on our journey with us.

    " YOU BET YOUR ASS I WANT TO "
    Dude. I can't stop laughing. Seriously. Also -- you are THE king, for actually demystifying this subject. Nobody, and I mean, absolutely NOBODY has made anything about this. At least that I am aware of. Literally prepping a feature right now and couldn't believe my luck at seeing this uploaded. I've been trying to re-house a 17-35 Contax N for ages (I know that it's possible, not just because it's been done for Canon EF, but because a bud of mine who works at Panavision informed me the Panavision LWZ 17.4-34mm IS the Contax N).
    Also, I love how serene this one is, and thoughtful. Among your episodes, this one is one of your warmest on a human level ;)
    Oh and also getting a FULL K35 to FD SIDE BY SIDE IS SUCH A TREAT OMFG. Love the mythbusting, love the folks at GL, and love the insight into the process

      About your "warm" impression - maybe because of the smiles in the endß... Avi shot those... I seem to be colder in that regard ;-)

    This is pure Cinematic Optical Cosmic Bliss. It's amazing how GL Optics managed to do all that work in a short time, with such precision and beauty. This documentation is a masterclass of definitive know hows in cinematic optics. Because the knowledge it gives, one can expand in a lot of other subjects, and conclude many stuff discussed in so many forums all these last 6 or 7 years. This a really good conclusion that myth busted for me, for example, the real differences between the K 35's and the FDs. The jokes, Snatch Cameos and stealing the K 35 were amazing! Hey Nikolas,
    I have been watching through all your videos the past few weeks and felt I was obliged to write this. With the amount of work you have put into all your videos, it is only fair for me to put in a comparatively small amount of work to complement you as sincerely as I can.
    It must be nothing short of a Herculean undertaking to create the videos you have produced in the past few years. Every second, every frame of all your videos has passion and an artistic vision rarely seen on TH-cam, if not any medium I have yet witnessed. I think I can speak for everyone who watches your videos, and certainly everyone who comments on your videos, that what you produce is of the highest caliber. It is the greatest insult that your work has only seen a modest, albeit still not shabby, amount of attention.
    I am sure you already know how great your content is, as I have read your comments to other people who are essentially saying the same thing, but I sensed a negative feeling in your comments, which is why I feel obligated to say this:
    If you are ever sitting there late at night wondering if the work you put in is worth it, or if the people watching your content enjoy it, or if any of this is contributing to people in a meaningful way, I can let you know with absolute confidence that it all is. Your videos give me and many others hope that people with real talent and ability are producing worthwhile art and educational content, not just the garbage that is popular with many nowadays. I don't know if you ever feel that way, or if you have negative people in your life telling you that, but if you do, I hope you return to this comment to remind yourself of your fans and supporters.
    I really just want to give you a friendly handshake and thank you for all the inspiration you have given me to pursue things that I find interesting to the same level of excellence that you have, including dabbling in filmmaking. It would truly be an experience to share a beer with you and hear all the stories behind your productions and meet the man behind the camera.
    I apologize if this sounds sappy or emotional, but your enthusiasm, humor, and expertise that you bring to your videos are truly infectious, and I felt it necessary to state the feelings I have when watching your content.
    I wish you the best of luck, and thank you for the journey you have taken me on so far.
    (Please like this comment to let this man know you feel the same way about him)

      Hey Funky,
      thanks a lot for taking the time to write this comment… I much appreciated the kindness and the motivation. It is great that you honour the artistic and educational part of what we are doing… we couldn't be happier than to be seen in that light.
      Yes, admittedly, we invest a lot into these videos: time, money… and most importantly passion, for a comparably limited reach. I have no illusions about the potential size of our audience, and neither does TH-cam. We cater for a small niche and for the even smaller, higher end, and passion driven people within that niche. Considering this, we have a quite good standing in the industry by now… and that is what matter. Beyond what we do here, our work on TH-cam gave us access and respect in the top tier league of filmmakers and manufacturers, and I am very proud and grateful for that.
      So, don't think I am negative about what we achieved - If I was, I would stop doing it - of course, we could do better, and I keep working on getting there. A tiny bit of complaining helps ;-) I am German and complaining is in our blood.
      If you ever leave your Vault and are around my parts - hit me up for that beer!

    Thanks for this guys, I sincerely appreciate it with my whole heart. 1 hour goes very fast with such quality and mesmerizing content!
    You inspire and educate us more than you can imagine. Because of the FD video I got interested in vintage lenses and afterwards shooting film, I even found an FD 55mm f/1.2 SSC (non aspherical) and the nFD 50mm f/1.4 for a surprisingly low price. Nowadays I shoot 99% of my photos on film and it seems that it will be my whole life hobby. Because of you I discovered Blade Runner, which I can safely say is my favorite movie (btw I was thinking "it looks like Blade Runner" and you said it just a second afterwards, I smiled a lot). Because of the anamorphic video I got obsessed with anamorphic lenses, hopefully some day I'll get mine too, maybe the Saturn ones. I learned a lot from the ultra fast lenses video and understood many concepts, and of course got obsessed with fast lenses. And now I want to work rehousing lenses!

    Wow, I always wondered how rehousing is done. For the amount of work and materials it is actually quite cheap. I guess the look is virtually identical to the original K35 according to your previous video, even though you couldn't test it this time. Thanks for giving us insides.

    Great video and good sense of humour. I purchased a set of GL Optics Leica R primes 6 years ago. There was a back focus issue with the 28mm, 35mm and 50mm on delivery. GL Optics replaced all 3 lenses for free without question. I ended up buying their Canon 70-200mm, Angenieux 45-90mm and Tokina 100mm macro. I’m still using everything 6 years later. Definitely recommended for premium rehousing.

      Thanks you.... that was a Lumix S5IIx filming LOG at 800 ISO. F-stops are around 3.5... it is a slow kit zoom. No denoising in post. The S5II is stellar in low light, like all modern Sony FF sensors, but these scenes look clean as I didn't even have to push it. Man I love the fact that for some section of the video, the right channel just has the raw sounds from the factory playing. It was distracting for the 1st thirty seconds but I can't emphasize how nice and calming it becomes soon after. Even when the noise was loud and chaotic, somehow the rawness of it was soothing to me

    - Lauri Suokas, Whitepoint Optics CTO

    • @MediaDivision
      @MediaDivision  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you… for all mentions and to simplify the chart and it's meaning (there are different charges at different times for each rehouser), we explicitly mention what % has to be paid for production to START, not to get a place in the cue or point of refund-ability, or something like that. In the end, the customers are interested in how long they have to spare what liquidity.
      Our offer from Whitepoint looks as following regarding deposit payments:
      The payments are divided into four parts, below is an explanation of the payment structure:
      25% of the total amount is paid as a deposit when you want to reserve your slots. This is non-refundable.
      25% of the total amount is paid for ordering parts.
      25% of the total amount is paid at the start of production.
      25% of the total amount is paid upon delivery. Payments must be made 100% to start the delivery process.
      So, it is actually 75% by that measure. If this has changed in the last month we are sorry and happy for you to point it out here. We can have a correction sentence in the description. Did you actually change deposit policy since February?
      About the same story with TLS. Zero is a bit more complex (regarding refund-ability) but it just makes it confusing.

    Awesome episode! My guess of the mystery lens is that element has been placed in contact with an organic material, which induced reaction with the coating, changing the color/roughness. I am not certain of what kind of reaction, but it likely requires oxygen/water in addition to the coating and the contact material, which explains why it is not present in the middle and around the edges.
    Also, did you just read the Cine Lens Manual?

    I've been following this channel for a few years now, and I still can't believe you didn't explode in subscribers, you produce content thats better than channels which have milions of subscribers.... I hope yt algorithm picks you up soon.

      Much appreciated Aleksander… Thank you!
      There are very few filmmakers in the world… and even less that are truly passionate about and reached a certain level. The algorithm "knows" that. It is not so much about quantity but those who matter in the context. Thankfully, a lot of professionals and manufacturers have realised that.
      Thanks for hanging!

      Thanks... well, you can already see how they look, the images haven't changed since our FD episode. I do get the "sex appeal", but in the end it's just the housing.

    This is probably the most interesting video about lenses I've ever watched on YT, by far... And I mean, I watch a lot 😇
    One thing espacially sparked my interest: do you know which wide angle adapter they use for the Canon FD 50mm 1.2 L to make it a 35mm 1.2? Would be so interesting!! 🤪

      Thanks a lot man… glad to hear you think that way… now, we need TH-cam to think so, too ;-) spread the word!!! 😁 I do know, but I don't know if I am free to say in this kind of forum. You can contact Avi (details in the description) or G.L… maybe they tell you?!

    What this channel brings to the film making community is bananas. Eventually, this channel will have millions of subscribers, and a billion views.

    Insane work and great video thanks you ! I’m still interested to see what will be the next step for those companies.
    As Cooke made a terrific impression on me with the sp3 (both the picture and the build quality) I’m wondering if at one point the rehouse manufacturer will come up with a sturdy and little design to have small rehoused lenses for video…
    we see smaller and smaller camera being used… you get what I mean !

    • @vadimka4
      @vadimka4 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      good point, that would be awesome. But also with some practice you can still use them well in original Arri-Std mount. Kubrick did it, so can you. :)

    • @MediaDivision

      Thanks a lot, well the most logical evolution would be to give these old lenses lens protocol features.
      SP3 housings are produced in China too (as far as I know), but then… what isn't these days. The size of the housing is not so much about the technical possibilities but what the market demands. Rentals aim at pro users, pro users want the larger housings to fit into their shooting environments. If you want to run and gun as a single shooter… there are so many good, modern, and light weight affordable options. Athena, Vespid… you name it. SP3 is the upper end of that, just to slow for my taste.

      @@MediaDivision « what the market demands »
      That’s my whole point !
      While drama / big commercial requiered this size. I see a growing market for smaller lens for smaller camera package (Rialto, R4D, Komodo and what else the future brings)
      Tiny doesn’t mean run n gun to me ;-).
      Nisi and DZO are.. yes they exist !

    • @MediaDivision
      @MediaDivision  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All I was implying is that the people shooting the smaller lenses are not in the market for expensive rehousings… yet?!
      If there is demand it would/will exist.
      Nothing wrong with DZO, or Nisi, or Laowa, or whatever

      Thanks a lot… appreciated. We know that we cater for a tiny niche and an even tinier audience within the niche. 57K in the first month is better than we anticipated a subject this specific - we are O.K. but we would love to get the attention from the bigger channels for sure.
