Hi Maggie I’ve recently found you and love your videos. You reacted in awe to Pentatonix frequently, which I agree. You should react to A&R If You’re Not the One cover. Harmonies are insane. Keep up the good work!!!!
Literally been one of my favorite songs since 1986. This is a great live performance, but the studio cut needs to be heard to fully appreciate it, though your comments were on point, Maggie Renee. Especially, regarding the guitar solo. I agree. Thanks to Roy P for recommending and sponsoring this song! 🔥❤
Thank you for reacting to a live version! This is where the band shines and one can appreciate their musicianship the most, realizing it's not just studio trickery. As a fan of theirs for 40 years, I don't know if I've ever seen this performance either! Finally, as a fellow singer myself, I appreciate your take on my favorite band. Kudos! Listen to more of them... you will be impressed.
Definitely an 80s sound but not not formulaic as was often the case then. The bass line is perfect. I agree about the guitar solo. Imitation 60s? Singing and harmony are very good for a live performance. Overall a good one. Thank you Roy. Good reaction/analysis, Maggie.
The guitar solo is amazing on the actual track , it's chorused or double tracked , Boon went a bit off piste with it here but he was a very talented musician
Notice that Mark King (lead singer/bass) using a mix of pluck & slap style. Slap bass is using the thumb to hit the strings which gives the funk sound. I do agree with some of the others on here, there are better live versions out there.
This is one of my favorite groups. Most reactors just play this song and think, "That's it, that's their big hit, time to move on to other artists". But it's about good songs, not good chart positions. Level 42 have about 30-40 great songs worth listening to, including "Starchild", "Foundation and Empire", "Micro-Kid", "The Chant Has Begun", "Kouyate", "Coup d'Etat", "Freedom Someday", "Man", "Take Care Of Yourself", "The Sunbed Song", and "Sirens", just to name a few. Not only that, but the live performances are sometimes very good as well. Mark King has a phenomenal slap bass playing style that has humbled most others.
I'm a huge fan of AC/DC, Pink Floyd and the Bee Gees, they are in my top 5, but this is in my top 10 song list. I could listen to it daily, doesn't get old.
When this came out, I was heavy into guitar blues rock. I heard this song and had to get the album. I bought the CD (new at the time) and vinyl. (Vinyl way better) I still love the bass line.
Its a Jaycee Supernatural through Trace Elliot amps. Its his first ever bass and he still uses them today. They are a brilliant live band, no auto tuning or tapes used !
You really need to listen to the studio version, the mix was much cleaner. Most recordings from someone's phone are horrible. And you also need to check out more of Mark King's bass work...he is remarkable!
Maggie, I hope you checked out the official video for this during/after your twitch stream. Mark's video performance was great for the song. Mark is still considered one of the best bass players in the modern era. I'd loved to have seen your reaction to Lessons In Love and Running In The Family(guessing these two were part of the steam reactions). I'm hoping Roy P. sponsors some Talk Talk and Reel Life in the very near future! Maggie would LOVE Boy Meets Girl!
Great reaction to a great song from one of my all time favorite artists. Deep catalog! Keep checking out their music! Not the best quality of this song but you got the jist of what made this special
Hola Maggie Reneé como estas espero que bien aca desde Bogota Colombia a ver si reaccionas a la version fingerstyle de Air Supply que acaba de sacar ALIP BATA.
This and Lessons In Love are my favorites from Level 42. After partaking in the Robert Palmer School of vocal frying( two pack of smokes a day habit), Mark's vocal range doesn't shread my vocal chords as much.
Maggie, Renae, I love you, but so often you pick live recordings that are terrible and do not do the artist, the audience, or you any favors at all. First reactions are not necessarily as good as a studied reaction
^ Pat is correct! If you’d like me to react to a different version, please feel free to either sponsor it, or submit it to the monthly poll on my discord to try and win a free reaction! discord.com/invite/ZzyBzdJsDX

ALWAYS loved this song!! The bass line for this song absolutely SLAPS(pun intended!)!!
One of the most underrated songs of the 80s. Always loved it.
Love it too. One of their best songs.

I love this song!!! Everytime I hear it I want to dance. 💜💜💃🕺👯
Great reaction Maggie. Loved this song when it came out, and for years afterwards. 👍🏻
Listening to Mark King is like listening to Al Jarreau, BEAUTIFUL
I thought the lead singer was the Late Bill Withers. LOL.
Mike Lindup on keyboard singing the 'Diamond Dreams' line and don't be fooled by the female backing singer - that was his falsetto.
Who was the girl? I don’t recognize her.
@@bradnielson6215The female vocalist is Annie McCaig, who would join them for live shows along with the sax player (possibly Krys Mach).
@@bradnielson6215Annie McCaig yes, I believe she's from Greenock originally.

Now try singing that vocal line whilst playing the bass, and driving those slap bass lines along - Mark King is an absolute legend
And this is one of his easier ones. Incredible.
This is one of my favorite songs of the 80s. Makes me think of hanging out with my friends in the summer at the swimming pool and the burger shop.
Just a fantastic live performance of this song. Mark looked like he was having so much fun here, too

Mid/Late Winter 1986. I was a senior in HS. This song was played on specific radio stations well into the Late Summer of 1986.
This is one of my favorite songs ever, thanks for reacting to this. And I totally agree about the guitar solo.
Notice that Mark King (lead singer/bass) using a mix of pluck & slap style. Slap bass is using the thumb to hit the strings which gives the funk sound. I do agree with some of the others on here, there are better live versions out there.
Great song choice Roy! Love that bass and saxophone running through it. Awesome job Maggie!

They are great ! My favorite . Thanks Roy
One of the best if not THE BEST pop song of the 80s and therefore EVER
One of the best slap bassists on planet earth!
I love Level 42❤❤❤❤❤
My favourite band , watch them play live on every tour they play .
This was the 80's. Their live performance was great. 👍
Mike Lindup on keyboards. Fantastic voice! I've been digging into this band since the early eighties and haven't stopped!
Boon Gould on lead guitar. RIP. His brother Phil Gould was on drums.
Was so sad when they left the band. They were never the same after that.
Great reaction! I saw Level 42 open for Steve Winwood back in the day in Philadelphia! Pretty good show!
I saw Level 42 open for Steve Winwood in Mountain View, Calif. Both put on great shows.
This performance! Not heard it before but the Gould brothers are beyond reproach!
When this came out, I was heavy into guitar blues rock. I heard this song and had to get the album. I bought the CD (new at the time) and vinyl. (Vinyl way better) I still love the bass line.
Ayolah maggie duet lagi sama alip ba ta dengan cover terbaru alip ba ta AIR SUPPLY - GOODBYE.
Love that slap bass style. Does anyone know if he's playing a Shuker Bass?
i GUESS it's an Alembic, but I'm not sure...
@@baumi-metal9123 It's a Jaydee Supernatural.
@@simontaylor7888 ok- thxalot

Mark king is a brilliant bass player oh can play bass fine see level 42 in london in the 80's love them
That is the incredible Mike lundgren with the high pitch vocals .
Mike Lindup
One of my favourite all time bands! Lead singer would be chewing gum whilst also singing!!
solo on guitar remind of a spinal +ap solo going "off scrip+ "....lol
Worth pointing out the equipment was 40 plus years old. Great track ❤
You really need to listen to the studio version, the mix was much cleaner. Most recordings from someone's phone are horrible. And you also need to check out more of Mark King's bass work...he is remarkable!
Fantastic review, I had forgotten about this great song. Thanks, Roy!
I would love for you to analyze Forestella's Legends Never Die.❤❤
if you want see good base check out Mr. Pink Live
Love this...might be mistaken but i think is from the tube produced by tyne tees television back in the day 👍

think music louder than his voice also made it bit difficult to hear him clearly-not a bad group-new one on me-like your reaction...
Intro to this song sounds like Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall In Love (with lyrics), but it came before, so Jane prolly hacked it a bit.
Hy Maggie, why don't u listen, Lovegames off Level 42?
Nice track 😊
You sounded like Ted with your impersonation 😁
One of my favorite songs from high school (sorry, I'm old). If you want to move forward a decade, how about Foo Fighters?
You should put on subtitles on so you can sing along with the words :)
The Big Eighties
Blow Monkeys
Depeche Mode
Spandau Ballet
Tears For Fears
Naked Eyes
Thompson Twins
Squeeze
Hola Maggie Reneé como estas espero que bien aca desde Bogota Colombia a ver si reaccionas a la version fingerstyle de Air Supply que acaba de sacar ALIP BATA.
Not may bands are dominated by a bass sound, like level 42.
American lecturing about diction?
Mark king has a habit of chewing gum when his singing
I dont know I love the guitar solo. He was just lettin go. Who knows.
not the best performance of this song ..their more recent performances are so much better than is
I don't recommend using a live recording to analyze their vocals quality. The sound is much worse than the studio recorded.
Muddy audio on the original video.
Great song - this is one of those I just love to sing along with, maybe because of that punchy way he sings it?
This and Lessons In Love are my favorites from Level 42. After partaking in the Robert Palmer School of vocal frying( two pack of smokes a day habit), Mark's vocal range doesn't shread my vocal chords as much.
Soundtrack or music video is better
It not heir best performance un lucky you picked is one

She doesn't pick them. People sponsor a song and she reacts to it.

Your too annoying goodbye.
The video audio is not good, the band is not good live.
Not a good version
Bad mix!
