- It is the year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age. Two emerging nations begin to clash after Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnom to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. So they set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy. With the help of Achilles, the Greeks are able to fight the never before defeated Trojans. But they come to a stop by Hector, Prince of Troy. The whole movie shows their battle struggles.

You can see in Hector's eyes, he knows he's going to die today. And he was clearly overmatched from the start.
But he's the only opponent who got through Achilles' guard and scratched his armor; the only one to make him breathe hard from the effort of the fight. Like Achilles says to Priam later, Hector was the best he ever fought.
A fight with every emotion involved love, pride, patriotism, passion.

This scene was so intense for me.
I loved both characters but knew one was going to die. That mixed emotion was strong for me.

Movement economy and breath control... Light armor vs heavy armor. I love the approach movie makers took, and the amount of thought they put into this short fight!

At 3:50 Achillies is thinking WTH!?!?!? Hector put up a much better fight than he could have ever anticipated...but Hector is just top normal man level...Achillies is above normal man level. The fight was over before it began.

This was the fault of Paris and Helen. Paris steals another man’s wife, and his brother paid for it with his life. If Paris had not stolen Helen from Menelaus, there would be no war, and Hector would be alive. BTW, Hector’s wife was fine. I’d take her over Helen.
At 3:49 I think this is the moment Achilles gained respect for Hector when he realises he has a slight challenge

So I get that Achilles is just badass but Hector is a fucking beast. Achilles is suppose to be a demi-god of some sort. So he naturally has advantages in the mythology. Hector is just a man, but he exudes a high amount of skill as a warrior. We knew he was going to die in this scene. But had that have been any other guy than Achilles they'd get clapped real quick.

They likely did this on purpose. Hector had fought every battle in the movie up until that point while Achilles was rested and at full strength. He wasn’t as worn down as hector was

In Homer, this fight looked different. This movie version is incredible and ridiculous.

People fail to realize the war was already over when he had him trapped at the beach he could have killed him in the temple he let him live not only did he let him live he didn't even fight in the war Achilles knew it was wrong so he didn't want to be a part of it he was going to sell home and then he turned around and kill his cousin when Hector already knew that the Mormon didn't fight in the war and that they wasn't getting along with the rest of the Greeks so he should have known that wasn't Achilles that's why he killed him

@@opencase9903 they were not even. You can tell by the balance Achilles keeps as he changes stances and strikes with very very mediated skill strikes. Hector was more on defensive... Both amazing sword fighters but the point they are trying to illustrate is that Achilles fights with godly divine grace...
Also he's fighting a romantic battle about brothers. One looses younger one looses older. It's all symbolic yada yada

Not exactly, Hector was a tough opponent until he became exhausted and then Achilles dragged the fight out to make a show, but I wouldn’t say it was easy for him, look at 3:49 Achilles clearly is tired and has some respect for Hector
