@@Amjackson70 I think it’ll be the next canal open and connected. The other end has some work to do but once it’s through to Fosseway Heath it will just keep rolling I think
Excellent video Steve, I'll be walking down by cricket Lane tomorrow. I'm glad that the Lichfield Canal trust is supported by local businesses like the one I work for, Tippers Builders Merchants, they get a lot of gear from us. Hope you don't mind me mentioning them here. All I can say is.... Good Job 👍👍👍👏👏👍👏👏
@ Yes they are extremely lucky. I volunteer for a museum local to me as well as being full time employed elsewhere. It can be very difficult staffing with volunteers as often people are in the same position as myself which can be very difficult finding the time. Hats off to them all and yourself for making your many videos of this and other projects around the country.
Nice one Steve, already a member of the trust and 500 club, great update, although I’m on the south coast I wanted to support something truly English and part of our heritage and culture, when I retire in a few years I would like to come up and camp for a couple/few fortnights a year and do something to help whatever that is at the time, so refreshing to see a charitable organisation where no one is on the make, just unpaid volunteers in every role doing their best! Fantastic! Best Andy.
@@andrewbisson5052 they’d love your help, I might do the same at some point, it would be a shame for me to make all these videos and not be able to say I helped on it!
Very informative update on what looks like a professionally organised and executed project - from brickworks to towpaths. Do canal craft have access to any part of the restored canal?
@@malcolmrichardson3881 no not yet, although I think they should have a trip boat down at Darnford moors. I guess when this next 2 years is up and there’s a whole new section in water then it makes sense to run trips here as it’ll be 3/4 of a mile there compared to about 0.3 miles at Darnford moors
Hello, we are staying in Lichfield at the end of January and hope to walk some of the seven miles to see what has been happening. Thanks for the video, gives us a good idea of what we can expect to see.
@@howardjones6752 yes, it was built when the toll motorway was built for a future crossing, without that crossing the canal would have been incredibly difficult to even start restoring
Good question! The priority is on this end at the moment, there are some plans to move forward but they need to work with some landowners. I saw some ideas about putting a marina up that way in one of the current quarries, that would push things to open up. I reckon that end will open from the other end though and they will meet in the middle
We are concentrating on the other end at the moment, so we,can get as much in water as we can. But if an opportunity comes up to do something with the aqueduct, we'll grab it.
No, you can’t walk all of it. Some of it is still in private land. Btw you won the draw last time, please contact me on courtabovethecut@yahoo.com and I’ll sort out your membership for the wilts and berks
@ does the canal have an estimated cost? The locks are one of the things I love about the restoration, some don’t have that many in 30 miles! It’s a shame they cost a couple of hundred grand a piece!
