    Wow! The new piece looks so much sturdier! So excited to see Sony finally address this. Wish they did so more publicly but this is definitely a win for the 1000! Hopefully we'll be seeing even more of them now. Great video and repair as always, dude.

    You looking for parts?
    I have two ERS-111; of the two is brand new still factory sealed, the other works I just pulled it out of storage and charged the battery and it booted right up.
    Also have a black ERS 7M3 - pulled it from storage, charged both batteries and powered it up and it walked around a played with the pink ball.
    Only thing I noticed on the ERS-7M3 is that it was a bit shaky while standing and hunting for the ball.
    Anyway let me know if your interested.

      honestly hard to say - there's some speculation that the US dogs all use the newer style parts in their front hips, but we've seen JP dogs made after the first litter pups dislocate their front legs, so i really can't say with any degree of certainty.

      This will be super helpful for imported units that won't service. Ian from aibo accessories 3D scanned and printed the new parts with stronger material and fixed his own aibo this way. He doesn't have time to repair other people's bots so will be sending parts to the clinic once they go through some more testing. Chris is also testing them on a Japanese unit.

    • @JBurg
      @JBurg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      just to clarify, the parts chris and i are using aren't ian's parts, these improved ones we use were made by Sony. they are injection molded rather than printed. ian's parts look good, but these ones will almost certainly last longer than anything 3D printed. i'm sending ian a set to install in his dog as well.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So excited to see how Ian's new parts hold up but it will take some time to be sure. All of his other printed work is really high quality so it is great news for imported units sony won't service.

    • @JBurg
      @JBurg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      these parts aren't from ian, they're OEM Sony parts! ian's made some amazingly cool stuff so far (i absolutely love the custom ears), but ultimately we chose to go with original parts since injection molded plastics will last longer than anything that can be printed with today's materials and technology.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JBurg interesting! I thought at first they were the parts Ian had or were molded from his 3d scans. There were some material differences Chris and Ian were noticing in their dogs between older and newer units which i also found interesting. Makes me wonder how much better older vs newer ones hold up and even what cheese and black sesame legs look like on the inside. I don't trust them to be free of issues but don't want to take my own aibos apart to check as long as they work well

    How much is the aibo ers 111

    • @Aibodogs
      @Aibodogs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Japan you can easily find a working 111 in the $100-$300 range. They’re old and around 23 years old so their value has gone down quite a bit. I wouldn’t pay much more than $300 for one, and I got mine from mercari Japan using a proxy, sendico.

  • @Sabundy

    Be thankful Aibo is not an Apple product. If you were doing this level of self repair on an Apple product all kinds of things would stop working to "punish" you for repairing your own stuff.

    • @Lizuma
      @Lizuma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how well you take care of the battery, which will increase its life. Well taken care of batteries can last for a long time. The community recells old aibo batteries and will certainly work with 1000 batteries if it’s needed.
