    a lot of athletes also do weight training to supplement their gymnastics ... for example, they will do bench press to strengthen their chest and shoulders for planche/maltese and curls to build their biceps which will protect the elbow in straight arm holds. Yan Mingyong was capable of a 130kg bench press at 50kg bodyweight and you can see Chen Yibing doing plate curls in the gymnasium

    • @vincentvin4345

    • @hieumungus3902
      @hieumungus3902 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vincentvin4345 you can get a good strength and body from rings but weights can be very good and efficient for increasing strength on rings straight arm skills, because it's scaleable and convenient. not all gymnasts use weights, the US national team used to never do weights I think. They were quite a bit smaller than the current team they have today but they also had very impressive bodies.

      @@hieumungus3902 I just yesterday saw famous doc about Berlin 1938 Olympics and guys with rings were impressive and literally without any muscles at all.IM second month in calisthenics mainly rings and straight bar twice a week and body responds surprisingly well.I have balls between armpits.Biceps is bigger than only from dumbell.My gym is closed but not sure if I will comeback

    • @hieumungus3902
      @hieumungus3902 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vincentvin4345 I prefer the gym because the exercise set-ups are more convenient and less awkward, but I can make it work with rings ... it really depends on what your goals are though. I do think weights are good to supplement advanced gymnastics strength like the cross and planche when combined with specific training

    I remember suffering from shoulder dislocation and discomfort 4 years ago. I got surgery and what not. Let me just say, I've been training with rings now for almost 4 month and I've noticed my rotator cuff are sooooo much stronger and I feel stronger on my weight lifting days as well, alongside better posture as another noticeable benefit. Not to mention, rings are cheap, and can be used anywhere making it easier to basically never miss a workout. Tysm @Tao Physique for the continual help from nutrition to training, especially since u post on here for free. Also, if I wanted personal training from you, how would I do that? Are you able to do online ttraining? Ty again.

    I had two gymnast friends... one of them even some size-able bodybuilders couldn't match up to him in functional strength

    Another important reason why gymnasts biceps are so big is that arm volume is inversely proportional to height. Since being short makes gymnastic movements a lot easier all top level gymnasts are really short!

      @Krazy Guy yeah, more muscle makes you stronger but also makes you heavier, that's why there's an ideal weight for bodyweight skills training. At a certain point getting more muscle would just make you less efficient, this breaking point really depends on your height too. Even tho gymnast look swole as hell, because they are really short (
