- Weekly grocery haul for our family of 12. Here is our meal plan for the week:
(We shop on Tuesday evening in Manhattan, NYC)
Wednesday: Pesto, Dinner: Goulash & Salad
Thursday: Hummus, Greek Salad, Pita Chips, Dinner: Naomi's Birthday! (Homemade Thai Food)
Friday: Sourdough Bread Pizza, Dinner: Sweet & Sour Chicken over Rice
Saturday: Sandwiches, Chips, Juice, Fruit, Dinner: Burritos
Sunday: Shish Kebabs & Rice, Dinner: Nachos w/ Beef
Monday: Tuna Sandwiches w/ Carrots Dinner: Lentil Soup w/Baguette
Tuesday: Lamb Kebabs, Roasted Tomatoes, Cous Cous, Greek Salad, Pita Chips, Dinner: Beans & Rice & Shopping Snacks (Costco Food Court)
See what it takes to feed our family of 12 for a week! We go to Trader Joe's, Costco and Lincoln Market. We bring Anna (11), Chloe (9), Enoch (7), Melody (4), and Moses (2).

I was thrilled today whenI scored 2 beef roasts when grocery shopping. I am not a fan of hamburger and kind of tired of chicken. But there was not a fresh tomatoe....sold out. Things are so expensive. This was my big shopping for the month. Glad it is done. I am learning from your shopping and getting ideas for meals. Love to you all!! Your family is amazing!!

With you talking about Naomi loving Thai food if there’s ingredients you struggle to find in your normal grocery stores, NYC has a Chinatown and the stores are amazing. When I come to the city for trips I always end up bringing home ingredients from there as souvenirs lol

If you wrap your celery in foil it will last longer. You can also chop it up and freeze it for soups & stews. If you don't use all your peppers they freeze well too.

If you slice in half the avocado pit there's some more avocado inside. To keep bananas from going brown, wrap the stems in plastic wrap. And yellow and red bell peppers, there are male and females, the males are for cooking and the females are for raw eating. I've heard that all vegetables have males and females, I just know what the difference is with red and yellow peppers.
2:14 Wait - that ranch dressing is SOOO GOOD! Just tried it for the first time last week. Was 💯 expecting to not like it & return it… nope! It’s a keeper! 🧡
Yes! It’s so yummy!
A good way to get celery to last a long time… is to take it out of the plastic and wrapt it in aluminum foil. I use to go ahead and cut the end off and wrap it, but I’ve done it either way. I figure if you’re going to discard of the end… go ahead and take it off and save room in fridge. It works! If it goes limp, but not slimy, cut end off of pieces mayb 1/4” and out in water. It rehydrates.
I lived on an island with no stores, bridges, nothing, so I leaned a lot of hacks that way.
Worth a try.
If your romaine begins to dry out or go limp… cut bottom part off that you’d normally discard. Fill bowl with cold or ice water and soak. Voila!

I find it odd that here in New Zealand we have a lot of 24 hour supermarkets and not many of the others would close before 10pm. It was also interesting that the asian ingredients were so foreign. We have them in most supermarkets but we also have a lot of Asian supermarkets for other rarer items.

Out of curiosity do you have a home delivery service there ? In the UK we can order from supermarkets and get it all delivered which I love because I find it all too time consuming and a little stressful going to the supermarket.
Yes! But with the unpredictable nature of what’s on the shelves it’s helpful to just go see for ourselves. But I do see a number of people in Costco shopping for other people.

Do all your kids drink a soda on shopping night? Even melody? I am just wondering, my 9yo really doesnt like soda because of how it feels in her mouth.
Some kids like soda, some don’t but we usually just have it on shopping day because it has so much sugar!😅
I think that is great, you make it more fun for them to come around. They get to learn what they like and what not. It's not like you skip all of the sugar.
We personally have a lot of candy at home, but my daughter Just loves fruit and water. So that are mainly her choices!

Don’t refrigerate bell peppers. If you note, they are not in the fridge at the store.

Amber, I don't think Just Salad is worth the price you pay. They make the salad for you and they give you mainly lettuce. It is so sad that the Target had to close down because of thieves. They not only are busting out store windows to steal, now they are making counterfeit money to buy things with. I don't know what this World has become. Well I do know, but I'll keep my thoughts to myself. Shortbread are one of my favorite cookies. They go so well with a cup of tea. Moses sitting on those steps like a little grumpy old man was so cute. 😂🤣
