Elsewhere on YT you can find an interview of Dave Edmunds relating the story of how he played with Chuck back in the mid-80s as part of Chuck's 60th birthday celebrations, and Chuck was so impressed he let Dave play the leads, and said at the end 'Who says a white man can't play the blues?'. I've also heard another interview from Chuck himself commenting on one of Dave's songs (Queen of Hearts) saying Dave had a real feel for rock n roll...High praise indeed from the true king of rock n roll.

This was recorded by BBC Wales on a St, David's Day, back in '94. I was lucky enough to be there, it was a line up of the best rock musicians ever to come out of Wales, maybe even the UK. Dave and Mickey are up there with Knopfler, when it comes to rockabilly stuff. The line up is, Dave Edmonds, Mickey Gee, Pino Palladino, Andy Fairweather Low, Geraint Watkins and Clapton's awesome drummer, Henry Spinetti.
R.I. P. Mickey, rock on guys, fantastic, so proud you are all Welsh.

This is pure Cajun Wales, London and New Orleans mix. Such a powerhouse sound full on Johnny Allen. Is that Andy Fairweather Low? Tight as a drum lean and clean!

Regarding great guitarists, though, someone has just sent me on Facebook a clip of Albert Lee doing guitar overdub on a track being recorded by Edmunds. At one point,, D.E. says that if he could be reborn as anyone it would be as Albert Lee. The man is a guitar genius!

This is one of the best Rock and Roll updated pieces I’ve ever heard. With Watkins what a combination, I play it often with windows rolled down and goin down the road. This truly underscores the modern promised land.

The best guitar player that no one ever heard of. I've been a fan since Love Sculpture, I still play Sabre Dance and You can't catch me ( from Forms and Feelings ) on my I Phone regularly.. Saw Dave/Nick with Elvis Costello and Mink DeVille at the Tampa Bay Jai Lai Fronton in 1978. Un f'ng real. I was at Chuck Berry's Hail Hail Rock N Roll night at the Fox in St. Louis. Wish Dave was there. Cheers from Memphis.

+Bryan Mclellan The best guitar player that no one ever heard of!!!!! WHAT, WTF? Bryan, Bryan, the guy's world famous amigo, have you been hiding out in a cave since the 1950s? Sheesh!

+verty87 I think I know what Bryan means, those of us who know Dave are well aware of his talents as a player and producer, but there are many who only know him for I hear you knocking and girls talk, which is a shame - he should be a superstar.

@bryan mclellan…..dave is world renowed fella, im sure you know that, as you know his early works....but there is a man sharing guitar with him on that stage who many will never have heard of....but he was a genius on the strings...one MICKY GEE, now sadly passed, respected and loved by his peers, and certainly in my top five guitarists.....a much missed talent, humble and human....great to see all these fab musicians in the video, Geraint is a magnificent talent :)

    • @davidknoop

Sorry, this is really good but the voices and versions of Chuck himself and Jerry Lee are much more poignant. I would love to see Dave perform though. Saw and heard Chuck and Jerry Lee live at North Sea Jazz ‚Rock legends’ early 2000’s but regrettably Chuck was already too old to do his usual performance. Jerry Lee did allright in his seventees 😊

I've listened to a lot of versions of this song and none have included the accordian as on my favourite version by Johnnie Allen. Dave Edmunds knows how to stay true to the music as it should be and I've always wondered who the acomplished accordian player was at that gig. Thanks for naming him in the title and also for uploading. Wonderful.

Celtic musicians play great rock 'n' roll accordion...saw an Irish band years ago called the 'Emerald Express' whose accordion player was living proof that Celtic music was one of main roots of rock 'n' roll...both Cajun and Zydeco music have great accordion players that can really rock it up as well...
