David William "Dave" Edmunds (born 15 April 1944) is a Welsh singer, guitarist and record producer. Although he is mainly associated with pub rock and new wave, and had many hits in the 1970s and early 1980s, his natural leaning has always been towards 1950s style rock and roll.

Dave Edmunds is one of the greatest R&R artists of all time… a true craftsman, his covers of Chuck Berry songs in particular are absolutely sublime! ❤
Good old Dave Edmunds and Rockn'roll...! 🕵🏻🎶😃👍👍👍💃💃💃💃💃
We need more rockabilly in our lives it never dies
this guy needs greater recognition,
no one will ever do this song as good as Dave Edmunds as he did on that LP
Well, now that Chuck Berry is no longer with us, you might be right.
The most underrated Welsh artist...I've a fan for decades!
Dave never gets the recognition he deserves.
A lot of people don't realise he produced the stray cats and shakin stevens
Absolute ledgend,
The race is on with the stray cats is one of the best rockabilly tunes ever,
I have a Best of Dave Edmunds CD that has twenty tracks. Everyone one of them charted, and several were top ten or twenty. That’s hardly a record of an artist struggling to be recognised. Dave has received plenty of success, especially from the people that matter. He had his first hit fifty three years ago, nobody goes on forever.
Dave the greatest rockstar in history.
The words still get me! Poetry in motion!!
When I hear of Elvis being the king, I only have ONE question. How many other artistes have recorded his songs compared to Chuck?????
Good Lawd Have Mercy!!!!! Never heard this version. What A Tune.
Dave ROCKS. He helps to keep great tunes like this sounding FINE! Thanks, Dave
Love the way she never misses a beat!! Chuck Berry classic and a classic interpretation by Dave Edmunds - wonderful!
Bob Newton - Amen to that brother .
A late Berry song. Dave rocked it up and hit it out of the park. First time I heard it I was stunned.
Just about the best rock n roller !
Very true to Chucks original, even the guitar break..love it.
Man, iconic! No one covers Chuck Berry half as good as Dave!
Not even Chuck himself.....
@@markfahey3921 A matter of opinion to be sure, but I agree.
A friend of mine told me how much he loves this song...i said HEY, ME TO BROTHER, ...!!!! and he played the elvis version, not knowing this one, and i said NO, NO, NO, BRO, LET ME SHOW YOU THIS PROPER ONE..., OH YEA...
BEST VERSION...👇
THANK YOU CHUCK BERRY, GOD REST YOUR ROCKIN SOUL...🙏💙
Chuck, RIP Good Buddy, we have to thank you for this masterpiece, but Dave what a superb renditioning.
Effing amazing...Dave does the impossible and outchucks Chuck here.
Totally agree
Dave Edmunds - man is a total legend - this version is so in the pocket, wide and loose, and def better than Berry’s. Just great!
incredibly wonderful ... the Sweet Lass with black top/grey skirt has hypnotized me --- help, what is the antidote ???!!!
Edmunds knows rockabilly
talk about energy and joy ! this music personifies it !
no one rocks like Dave. As well I really like this footage it actually looks like the fifties
@Dave Edmunds I am the world's biggest Dave Edmonds fan. I saw him live several time. I am a musician by trade and I owe this man everything. He is my biggest influence as a guitar player and as a producer. If this is really Dave Edmonds himself All I can say is thank you sir. You have inspired me my entire life. No other musician has had the type of in Impact on me as you. You might say you are my Chuck Berry. Thank you for your incredible contribution to music as well as my life. We actually shook hands once out of gig in Toronto Canada when you were doing the rock and roll review tour With Dion and Graham Parker. if this is really Dave himself then thank you for responding to me.
Excellent music I love it
A hard song to sing, dave nailed it
A great song from Chuck...What lyrics used to be all about, tell a story & make it rock.
Edmunds & lowe!! Lowe & Edmunds No comparison whichever way you look at it together great combination apart both exceptional artists END OF
Rockpile...would love to see a Rockpile reunion or albulm
Super version ! J'adoooore !
normally I would not criticise Mr Edmunds but the fact is that Johnny Allen nailed this so well that no one will ever do it better
Even Chuck Berry must bow to him
Contrary to popular belief or opinion, Dave E's group were 'The Raiders'. They played the at the Gaumont Cinema & the Victoria Ballroom. Circa 1962 all Dave E & the Raiders followers forecast great things for this multi-talented & all round 'Mr Nice Guy'. Dave E now acknowledged as one of the best ever.
Good cover ❤❤❤
Chuck Berry songs are true Rock and Roll, no matter who plays them but Dave here does a rocking job of it
🎉😂🎉😂🎉😂😂😅😅😮😅😅
😅
😅
😅
😅😅
Magic! Great clip, thankyou! :) Dave has long been a fav.
Loved Dave forty years, this is half the reason
A very creditable version by Dave Edmunds
It sounds like a child is tapping along to the music on this record. Quite amazing given everything else on it is so good.
Great version!!!!That gal in the polka dot dress never misses a beat.Had to watch it a few times. There was a reason girls wore crinolines and full skirts in the '50's-all she needed was bobby sox and saddle oxfords.
Just had a few beers takes me back to 1960s brilliant many thanks
Great music from Dave
A great version of a MOVING story
Further proof that Chuck Berry was rock'n'roll's greatest lyricist and songwriter.
Not even now with all the rap around!!
Not that I needed any more proof.
Chuck is rock's greatest poet.
Absolutely! Chuck gets credit for a lot of things, but his lyrics were the most advanced for anybody back in the 50s. He often told complete stories while most lyricists were struggling to make a rhyme. Promised Land is a read between the lines account of the civil rights movement back in the early 60s.
Top song 👍
Made me smile
Thanks good, we all could smile more.
I love playing and singing this song but - all respect to Dave and Chuck - Elvis really nails this one!
I agree with Ian Money, Johnny Allen (with Richard Belton on the squeeze box) is outstanding, Elvis, Chuck and others were great versions, but Johnny Allen is the clear winner imo.
This song is so good I've never heard a bad version of it and I'm 70 years old.
Dave Edmunds takes Chuck Berry' tunes to another level
One of the attractions of the RnR era was the jiving; and in this case, particularly the couple that has the girl in the full skirt. Jumping around in one place with no hand to hand contact -- you can't call that dancing! Thanks for posting.
Love the rock and roll by the couples
Check out the live version . It is an absolute belter!
she's amazing the one in the polka dot, great mover
The girl further from the camera is no slouch either. The four of them are really enjoying themselves.
Cliff Wheeler two lovely people.mother and daughter!
Really you know them?they are all amazing, just a pleasure to watch
@@peterlewis6820 yes I know three of them. As I said mother and daughter, and the guy in black who is the partner of the lady he is dancing with.
tear it up
The True 👑 of rock n roll😉
Brilliant
Great song.
I find the versions of Chuck and Dave a bit too slow. When I listen to Elvis I really feel the urgency and how desperate he is to reach the Promised Land.
Edmunds just gets it
Meatloaf did a phenomenal job on this song on SNL decades ago. Like this one too. Dancers add a lot.
Love this song Dave Edmunds does it proud ,but still think the Johnny Allen version is the best.
I agree.
Ian Money - I totally agree with your comment .
This song is awesome but, Elvis' version would be my pick.
no. the grateful dead live version is the best
@@dallasbradley3085 elvis always leaves a verse out for some reason
I always wished I could do this. My brother and ex wife could but we're older than me
Great song , great version, nearly saw that girls knickers but her partner kept getting in the way damit.
“Dance ballerina girl, go go go!"
that's why I am here
Great song and great dancing. The guy in the black shirt and white tie at the end is a cool dude dancer.
What about the girl in the pencil skirt wearing glasses
Not too shabby!
Chuck is dead, but his music has already left the solar system for deep space...cool.
best cover of promised land. bar none
Wow
Det er til dig min dejlige Blod Røde Rose - hvor jeg bare elsker dig - bare det var mig der dansede med dig- elsker dig!!!!!!!
This is great
&I love Chucks original version
But Elvis made it one of the great road trip songs
Go Johnny Go .
Love it!
Рок 🎸 ролл навсегда
🎵 👍 🧡 R n R 4 ever !!
Good record great song. Percussion sounds like spoons?
America's influence on UK music just as powerful as vice versa. This great musician is from Wales and he's wonderful.
👍💖💖💖💖
Dance little sister dance

Would have been a great Elvis and Dave duet.
RockaBilly
Nice....but Johnny Allen is STILL the TOP VERSION ! 😎🎼
Headin' west the hard way. LOL
Welsh got it goin' on....
Elvis Presley nailed this song. promised land go Elvis beat them all.
I hate to make it a point or a statement but, dave Edmonds is better at this song than chuck berry lol, as much as I love his music this song really is a rocker with the dave Edmonds band.
great song ;;;;;; by Chucky
Where did you get the wonderful video to go with this great version?
I prefer this version to Chuck and to Elvis
😇🥰👌💃🕺🤝❤🤍💚
Best version...sorry Chuck Berry
Choonage ....
i though the grateful dead
+Pete Johansen Whatever for? They were the lamest band ever!
+Paul Maney ......except for "easy wind" sung by pigpen.............
Paul Maney
at least both women have perfectly shaped legs.
Hello? Hello? Elvis? No? LOL
Elvis Presley does it way better ❤
Mediocre swing dancing. The men are doing no foot work.
