Flesh before you acid tan...I'll try to post the rest, I had to have surgery at the time the vid came out and wasn't able to finish the process...but I will surely try and I'll tag you when I do...
You are in fact fixing the hair in your pickle because you are using alum as an acid . It is in fact aluminium sulphate which is a tanning agent. It is used to tan cricket ball leather. Just thought you’d like to know.
How many times can you use a pickle solution? After it sets a few days using it looks like it has stuff trying to grow on the top just wondering if you ever had that problem.
I use a Rubbermaid large tub and I only use it to do all my furs for that season, dump it out....average 12-15 furs depending....but i keep in it a cool place to keep any fugus from growing...
I ended up having 3 surgeries and was unable to finish these...but will very soon....I'll send you the link to the main series of the man that taught me....
@@mountainbushcraftersallian8654 I had a skunk soaking in brine for 12hrs, I took it out soaked it in baking soda, washed it and froze it until I get citric acid.. think it'll be ok?
Dude you have to maintain a PH of 3 in your acid bath throughout the pickling process. Alum is a tanning process, not a pickling process. You need to include that in your presentation, other wise you can get bacteria growth and possible hair slippage.
Loads of good info in these videos. Keep 'em coming.
David Kralik Thanks for the comments!! Gonna go into depth on the whole season, still a lot to do "hands on"....
Great video Roland!!! I cant wait for us to get started.!
Shirli Kralik a lot goes into the whole of the matter.... From catch to the finished product..... Trying to utilize all my time during the slow days..
I’m looking for your video with the next step!! As well as how to flesh it after the bath

Flesh first. Then salt for a day or 2. Then pickle bath
Then tan
Learning something here about the tanning process. Thank you. 👍😊🇨🇦

Would you prefer citric acid or alum? I've seen solution recipes that ask for both.
Did you ever do a neutralizing vid? I can’t find it if you did. Thanks!
That won’t make the hair fall out? First timer here lol

How do I adjust ph?
Baking soda with work for sure.
My Baxk Yard us exactly right
What if I don't have alum? Can just pickling salt work?
You'll need alum or citric acid to fasten the hair to the hide if you wanna keep the fur....thanks for stopping in.
