- Our local TV station, TV Haugaland, made an interview regarding my very stormy ride from Shetland to Norway February 2.
Consider this a warm up for the full video coming mid March.

It's what Viking warriors do. Nothing but respect for you, brother.
That was a VERY GOOD interviewer: the way he asked so many open questions and let you free to answer to the length you wanted, the real attention he gave to you and your words. All this, together with the impressive story you had to tell, made for a great piece of reporting.
All these years of thrilling sailing paid off, and you were mentally well-prepared for this challenging passage. Stay safe, Eric. Cheers.
Yes, Erik's experience paid off but it seemed like he was a bit too close for comfort on this voyage. I think he now knows his limits all too well.
Amazing! You are a great sailor, Eric….And an inspiration to many of us. Thank you.
Wow Erik !! Sir Robert Knox Johnson tells a story of being completely awash on deck holding tightly to the mast , brother you’re right there. Thank you Sir Erik. Glad you made landfall and are safe to go back when the weather improves.
Hello Erik, great extreme pictures. Don't let yourself be pressured, the sea won't hesitate to kill you. Man can survive things by using his abilities, but he has no demand to survival. The art is to survive for yourself and your loved ones. Therefore, good planning and the decision to cancel in good time are important. Anyone who constantly puts themselves in danger will die in it! We love you! Keep alive!
Caan't wait for the full vid!
As dreamy as it is to watch folks bob around the Med, or Caribbean...THIS is inspiring! Great job Capt on keeping your wits!
NBJS writ large. This was a bit more than just "sailing." Mad respect Erik.
I had to change my shorts just watching this. You're the man Erik.
Beautiful story-telling, thanks, Johan, the Netherlands
Erik, sometimes I think you are the North Sea, personified. You are ferocious and unpredictable, as well as untamable and challenging. You are both larger than life and a living legend. What a novel someone could write! I think we all felt the potential danger in this crossing. I hope your critics are permanently silenced now. Absolutely no one can doubt your skills or courage. Please, going forward, be kinder to yourself. ❤
Respect from Turkey, great sailor And adventurer Eric
There are times when a couple of extra days in port are good - even for an adventurer. Loved the clip!
AS a member of near death club I found life sweeter and more precious ever since.
Glad you made it to Norway safely, Erik!
Erik, you are a true Viking. Take care
So glad you are safe!
Come on Erik?! Full video in March only? What we are gonna do until there? 😂😂😂😂
Meanwhile you could tell us the plans for the summer! I'm curious about that as well!
Congrats for the interview!
Cheers from Sweden
WoW your videos are amazing and I watch a lot of channels. I especially get excited when you drop a new video you deserve all the recognition. The North Sea seems like a frightening place. Thank God, you are safe.
Erik and the Ocean always deliver!
That was a crazy ride Erik. This is when things can go wrong. When one is forced to take out to sea in bad weather due to worse weather windows coming up.
It's always a pleasant surprise when I stumble upon your episodes. This one though, made we think of the possible worst that could've happened to you. You're always so confident and in control, it's never crossed my mind. I'm SO thankful that you're able to tell the story. Be blessed, Erik, and sail for many years to come.
When everybody comes in from offshore, then Eric start his journey🤘🤘🤘
Fair winds and good conditions for every time
Jürgen from Germany
You are a true Viking warrior!! Glad you are safe!
Knockdowns are scary on a full-sized boat. You see your spreaders or masthead getting close to the surface of the waves and you start to question your life-choices. Real character-building stuff.
I can't wait for the video to drop eventually.
Epic story, cant wait!
Glad you lived to tell the story. Can't wait for the full story. You are really a Viking, a true adventurer and fearless sailor. Please stay safe.
Epic voyage Eric, can't wait for release of your video, also very interested with Jessie's recent upgrade/refit to learn what improvements you have made. You look well and fit in this interview, hopefully you are in good health and able to do many more voyages. Keep em coming and Good Luck
Wow ! Quite the Ordeal. Good Job getting back safely ! Your Tessy took good Care of you also ! Be well brother
Glad to see you are safe.
It’s hard to capture large waves on video. . .you did it well. I have been in those conditions and I say the waves blocked the sun, but my pictures make everything look flat. Excellent work.
Bloody hell! Well done Tessie veldig bra !
"Knockdown?What knockdown," she said!
That was more than ' just sailing ' big guy , stay safe mate xx
Thank God you survived! What an experience. ☹🙏
seems incredible and dangerous days you never forget^^
I know the feeling he had. Eventually you just let the ocean decide if you are to live or die. You realise we are nothing compared to the power of the ocean. You can plead all you like and make promises but it still comes at you. Life changing.
Well done Erik.
This is unbelievable ,what to say , breathtaking. Not this video only but all of them 😃
Great respect to you from the US, Eric. You are the first to show just how bad the North Sea can get. You persevered. Kept your sailing knowledge and abilities during extreme conditions and made it ho.e safely. Congratulations, that's one you won't forget or will we! FWCS AHEAD!⛵️⛵️
Good seeing you on other sailing channels this week - Beau & Brandy and Sailing Uma
Erik you are my hero
Snap, glad you made it through that one. Looking forward to seeing the footage!
All of the best to you Erik!!…. Thank God you made it home safely!!
I can understand how you have mixed feelings about this trip…. loving the thrill and adventure but realising you were very close to the edge at the same time!!
I am realy looking forward to your full vid of this trip!!
Greetings Henk, the Netherlands.
(Ps the English subtitles are highly appreciated!!)
Looking forward seeing it
Wow! Just wow!
I am glad you came through
That was intence! Love the language too.
Well that looked like a wild ride for sure!
Amazing! So glad you were able to tell about it. I could feel the movement in that sailing! Fantastic!
there is nothing like a Viking using a bit of descriptive Anglo Saxon to sum up a scary moment and make it real to even when sat watching it in a warm, safe and comfy armchair!!! Great interview and epic sail. You’re the man Eric!
Fantastic Erik!!! You clearly did better than (almost?) anyone else would have in the conditions - what a fantastic sail, and great credit to you for your seamanship and care of ‘Tessie’!!!
Good to see you safe, and congratulations on a courageous job.
Just finished work , going to enjoy my tea watching this . Greetings from Athens
What a great teaser! Glad you're safe!

Awesome interview: NBJS.
Wow Eric! Can't wait to see the full story!
Great story. You must have a great windvane. 😊
Dear Erik,
brilliant interview! Thanks for bringing us such wonderful sailing content. It is always a joy to watch:) I think it is probably a good thing that you experienced the conditions you did. It is fun to see you brave such waters again and again, but your safety must always come first.
Love from Germany and unfortunately far to far from the sea. Safe passage to you always:)
Glad you’re safe mate!
Amazing journey
Good for you Erik, congratulations!!!✨✨🎉🎉🎊🎊 I remember the first video of you i saw, you took your bag and crossed that same wooden door to get to your boat, i thought it was awesome!
Well done ! Nice video.
Wow. Glad you made it back safely.
Glad you made it home safe Erik, what a crazy ride home..
Great that the trip was completed well!!! Please, take care! Stay on safe side!
It's videos like this that convince me that yours is the very best sailing channel on YT. Total respect and gratitude for letting us in on your adventures. I couldn't go where you go, but I'm glad you do. I get freaked in a force 6 in the Med!
Eric it was a great trip but the North Sea is a serious little ocean, I liked the video and thanks for sharing it.
You are a crazy Viking! Love to watch this!
Can't wait to see the follow up vlog Eric !!!! Looks amazing/scary ..... It's what I love about your content constantly pushing boundaries epic stuff altogether
Phew!!! Well done Skipper Eric and welcome back!!!!!
Wow, it was both terrifying and amaizing to hear your adventure. I can't wait the full video. Nice job Erik!!!
Very brave Erik, congratulations for your boat.
Living life on the edge on your terms. Much respect Eric.
Well done Erik, very good seamanship and a very fine boat pulled you through.Yes its something you never forget .I had a similar experience in The Bay Of Biscay.
Epic man. You got balls of steel and glad you are home safe
Glad you’re well.
Glad your safe mate great seamanship
Thanks! I enjoyed hearing this in your own language and am happy it ended well..
I knew that would be a wild passage , predict wind looked evil those days , glad you made it home safe !! ❤
Erik, I’m so happy you made that epic crossing. Really looking forward to the full video in March. Well done, and Bravo for staying cool under enormous pressure. As ever, your video’s and sailing exploits are so superior to the other ‘sailing video’s on TH-cam’.
Welcome home Erik, really glad you got back in one piece, much respect! You continue to live my dreams...
Having been on Shetland with Erik…. watching the weather for my plane’s departure…. I was very worried for Erik when he departed for home. I knew it would be very bad weather for him. But our fierce Viking endured! You need to know, Erik had barely slept in the 3 days leading up to this nightmare. The sacrifices he makes, to prove to himself, and then show it to us, makes him nothing short of a superhero! Godspeed Erik!!
Erik I am relieved you lived to tell the story.💪
That was crazy, but now you know what the baot and you can survive. A hard learned lesson. Safe sails.
Glad you are safe! BTW Great to hear you speaking Norwegian
wahou. Full video will be awesome. ⛵
Erick !!!
Sorry mate but I missed most of that after a few trys
But I am happy to see you going strong as a Viking !!
I wear my N.B.S.J.S. Hoodie with pride 😉
Very glad you made it home. The blessings of Skiðblaðnir were with you.ᛉ
The scariest part was the Carbon Monoxide poisoning risk. Wow that's huge!
We know Tessie just underwent structural improvements and your sail choice was the right one. Well done. NBJS
Very interesting to see the length of time the cockpit drains needed to clear the water . Well done Eric , can't wait to see the up coming video , huge respect man .
I would consider a bigger cockpit drain, with a check valve, also known as a one-way valve or a foot valve: Fluid only flows in one direction, i.e. it's unidirectional.

Wow. I admire your courage. Glad you made it safely. A reminder that we should never under estimate the power of the sea and the elements!!
I've been in a similar situation myself. In my case , it was blowing over 80 knots and my mast was actually in the water while I was sliding down waves sideways and backwards. Makes you appreciate life. It took me a couple of years to be able to deal with people that complained about their "problems" because they don't know what real problems are.
Jeezzzzzzussss
Wow, that was amazing! You just need to trust the boat
One regret Sailors and Pilots have in common ~... Hitting land.. Finally someone got the picture of how big the waves were.. nice
Situations like that are what separate a real sailor from a fair weather one. The men from the boys as it were. I think your the kind of sailor who could round cape horn single handed without flinching. I'm looking forward to the full video!
