Amazing episode my friend. The intro was priceless and hilarious. These giant serpents are definitely some of my favorite creatures in Kaimere. Marine reptiles are definitely my second favourite animals that went extinct... Right after the Theropoda... So to see two giant snakes being among them? It made my day. Just got to say, Jormungandr is definitely now one of my favorite animals in Tales of Kaimere. I was not expecting to witness a titanic madtsoiid that hunted aquatic dicynodonts while also having the name of the great world serpent itself. And now I'm glad that I did just witness it along with that comical intro lol. Keep up the good work Keenan.
I love snakes, so this was awesome for me. I also love how snakes have evolved into this different niches in different habitats. I wonder if the First Children ever used these larger serpents in their Homunculi? I could see them making a type of Lamia/Naga type Homunculi for guerilla warfare against enemies.

Lol) Thanks for this episode. Several questions I have are as follows: 1) Do coral and milk snakes also exist in Kaimere? (I would imagine even the bravest of Megaraptorans or Cocatrices would take their color warnings and leave both be. Lol (Though given their venom, if any exist on the Houze Prairie, it makes me wonder if Shu go after Coral snakes for both their color pallete and their venom.)) 2) Do snakes such as Burmese or African Rock Pythons exist in Kaimere? 3) How are true sea snakes doing in Kaimere? 4) Do snakes such as the Green or Black Mamba also exist in Kaimere (most likely on the Houze Prairie), or were they harvested, but subsequently outcompeted by the Houze Taipan? (Follow-up to this if Mambas do exist on the Houze Prairie: Are they (Especially Black Mambas) used often, if at all, in Shu cuisine?) 5) Are more recent Rattlesnakes found outside of Qajar or, like all others from the Interrupted Harvest, are they restricted to the peninsula due to outside competition? I didn't expected that snakes of Kaimere could be that gigantic. Jormungandr is incredible apex predator that could put a fight against mosasaurs and plesiosaurs. No matter the subject of any of your videos I’m always fascinated to learn and see the world of Kaimere. It’s even inspired me to try out my own world building.
So, an endothermic sea snake has become the world serpent and subsists on dicynodont walruses. This has to be one of the most unique spec-evo projects I have encountered.
Wow, i didn't realize you have snakes in Kaimere. I like that the Kaimerans use the venomous snakes for their venom for hunting and rituals. I like that there are giant snakes like the Jormungardr being a kaiju that can easily swallow a Kaimeran.
I love episodes like this, because they introduce us to Kaimere's "versions" of animals we are familiar with, and how those animals evolved from various harvests. Like the Falconry episode, this is one I keep coming back to! Also nice to see that the Permian Continent now has Behemoth (Permian Oliphaunt), Ziz (Caniraptor), and Leviathan (Jormungandr) all in one place! 1) The Kaimeran cobras were just descended from generic miocene elapids that converged on a similar appearance to cobras, right? 2) Which harvest was the Frypan Viper descended from? What was its ancestor? 3) Will all madtsoiids in Kaimere have the rainbow serpent connection and iridescent scales, or is it just a coincedence that the Rainbow and dreamtime Serpents have that similar connection? 4) Are there any other sea snakes apart from madtsoiids, like elapid sea snakes or palaeophids in Kaimere? I don't think that these snakes would have chances to be present on Kaimere or even to establish on it in the first place. The Palaeophiidae lived from the Late Cretaceous to the Late Eocene, approximately from 70.6 to 33.9 million years ago. It's a pretty short period of time and there wasn't a lot, if only a single one (the one of Asia that will introduce the dinosaurs that will dominate the Tyrants Dysnaty era), harvests during the Late Cretaceous and zero during the Eocene. So, they would not be a lot, if any at all, and enough to establish on Kaimere, and even, to surived into Modern Times.
@@dudotolivier6363 They were open-ocean animals that lived in the Atlantic, where most of the Oligocene harvest took place. We honestly *don't know* when palaeophiids died out thanks to how rare their fossils are - it's entirely possible that they survived later than previously assumed. And, well, we have them now with Jormungandr.
The Rainbow and Dreamtime Serpents are absolutely beautiful! (And Jörmungandr is an incredible beast). One of my favorite spec evo animals is a gliding cobra I made with "hood wings" called the "Sky Ray". Definitely a fun way to terrorize my players! The fake-out with Shark Week does have me wondering, might you do a future episode on cartilagenous fish in Kaimere? Especially since the name of one of my favorite weirdos is sounds so fitting for the planet: The Chimaera.
I absolutely plan on revisiting sharks with a much more substantial episode than I gave when the channel first started, but I need to wait for someone to sponsor a topic that big.

Probably would live much like the Seridic anaconda, though with as many large endothermic competitors, they probably would struggle and be pressured to smaller size.
@@TalesofKaimereI’m reminded of a group speculative evolution project I worked on a few months ago that resulted in a clade of snakes (possibly related to Colubridae) known as the Saccharophids (Saccharophidae) - basically, omnivorous or even fully herbivorous or frugivorous snakes, many of which with unique dentition to assist that.
For the ones that may ask : 1 - No ! Titanoboa was NEVER harvested on Kaimere. This snake lived during the Eocene era, in which ANY harvest occured. 2 - Modern Sea Snakes that we have on Earth in our ocean, the Hydrophiinae subfamily (inside the Elapidae family), are present as well on Kaimere. Inside the Known World and a little beyond at least. It's just that Keenan haven't have time to drawn some of them.
Great episode as always, just a question that has been in my mind for a while, are there any snow leopards or their ancestors in Kaimere (they’re my favorite mammals out there), or were they completely outcompeted by mountain panthers and white cockatrices?
Snakes have always been enigmatic reptiles for me and I never saw them on as much of a bad light as many people, nowadays, I deeply respect them and love them like many other of the beautiful creatures of our world. Some questions I have about the Kaimerian snakes however: 1.- Does the Seredic anaconda feed mainly on fish or is it also a mammal hunter, if the latter, what mammals and reptiles does it prey upon? 2.- What types of mammals does the great madtsodias (Rainbow serpent and Dreamtide serpent) hunt? 3.- Does the Red Panther hunt anacondas in a similar way jaguars do on South America?
On Objecia, snakes are still diverse. The most common Objecian snakes are hognoses, There are familiar and strange species. Objecia also has cobras, which can be found in the Taurian Desert and some other deserts. Many other familiar snakes can be seen.
Madtsoiidae snakes are really an amazing family of snakes ! With really a lot of traits and facts who are incredible to now ! They were very successfull animals, and lived from the early Cenomanian (Upper Cretaceous) to late Pleistocene, with a range going to South America, Africa, India, Australia and Southern Europe. Australia where their last home and stronghold at the end of the Pleistocene, with the famous genus Wonambi, being among the Australian megafauna cast. They were really primitive snakes, and despite being constrictor animals, they weren't able to swallow whole their preys, but instead kill tham and cut flesh from their body with their teeth, most particulary soft organs and skin, and it quite a mystery how they were able to reach such great sizes most of the time with such lifestyle. The namesake of the family, Madtsoia, is even one of the longest snakes known, at an estimated 10 metres (33 ft). A very large snake, this animal appear in the sixth episode of "Prehistoric Planet" (S2 episode 1) "Island", killing a Masiakasaurus and saving unvolontary a family of Adalatherium !

Yup! Squamate taxonomy is daunting but it seems silly to call them 'related to lizards' like a lot of content when they're so clearly nested deep in the clade.
With the Dreamtime Serpent and the Jormungandr, and their diverse, close relatives, we now have officially true Sea Serpents on Kaimere ! And under three categories of Sea Snakes : 1 - the True Sea Serpents, who are true snakes, with these giants Madtsoiids species; 2 - the Plesiosaurs (especially the Thalassocolobrus genus, with the Kadanuk, Daikogen or Shodima); 3 - and the Mosasaurs (especially the Sea Serpent and Crocodile Shark clades, like the Katabo, Enam, Enurey, Hamur and their diverse relatives).
Melanistic snakes must be something common on Kaimere, both on constrictor, Madtsoiids and small ones like Colubrid and Vipers. Because black snakes have a pretty good advantage compared to normal specimens of their species to recover heat more quickly than them. Because black coloration and color actually recuperate and ingerate better and faster sunlight than typical scales (while white sclales reflect sunlight, which is here a desavantage). In addition to give a better cammouflage to hide from predators in most biomes. The Crowned Vipers especially must have most melanistic specimens inside their population than the others snakes species inside the Known World, given their cold and temperate island all year round. Because having black specimens who can recuperate sunlight and as such heat faster than typical specimens is clearly a selective advantage. In addtion to be more cammouflage in the dense forests of Pakardia. On Earth, melanistic snakes, both constrictors and non-constrictors are very-well recorded, and lived perfectly well in the wild.
SECOND GIANT SNAKE JUMP SCARE. 1. Are the two giants responsible for "sea serpent" sightings? (if such a thing even exists in Kaimere due to the existence of plesiosaurs and mosasaurs as undeniable reality) 2. What interactions do humans have with the two giants? 3. Are there any tamers who work with the pythons or rainbow serpent?
1. Dreamtime serpent might occasionally find its way to the known world, but they don't have any established populations there, and Jormungandr would cook on the journey through the equator. More likely actual sea snakes (small ones like we have I didn't have time to draw and discuss), elasmosaurs, and the like. 2. Jormungandr does compete with Permian Continentals for prey, though no interactions were documented. Dreamtime Serpents also compete with local peoples, and are known to predate on people on boats. 3. Absolutely

I really like snakes. Some people may say they are cold and don't understand feelings like we do. Although there's proof claiming that, I still think of them as calm, gentle creatures. I am surprised that there aren't any Titanoboas that were mentioned in Kaimere. I wonder why? Good video though. :)
The Water Viper is none other than one of the famous American Viper Cottonmouth snake's subspecie "Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti" of Florida, who become overtime his own apart complete specie. Which show how in a fairly short time (less than 1 million years, since the Last Natural/Interupted Harvest was at 11 kya, at the very end of the Last ice Age) animals can evolved into new species !
They're not yet documented enough for an average estimate. The specimen collected was 73 feet (22 meters) long and nearly 30 tons, but it is assumed they can get at least a bit larger.

I don't think that these snakes would have chances to be present on Kaimere or even to establish on it in the first place.
The Palaeophiidae lived from the Late Cretaceous to the Late Eocene, approximately from 70.6 to 33.9 million years ago.
It's a pretty short period of time and there wasn't a lot, if only a single one (the one of Asia that will introduce the dinosaurs that will dominate the Tyrants Dysnaty era), harvests during the Late Cretaceous and zero during the Eocene.
So, they would not be a lot, if any at all, and enough to establish on Kaimere, and even, to surived into Modern Times.
@@dudotolivier6363 They were open-ocean animals that lived in the Atlantic, where most of the Oligocene harvest took place.
We honestly *don't know* when palaeophiids died out thanks to how rare their fossils are - it's entirely possible that they survived later than previously assumed.
And, well, we have them now with Jormungandr.
The Rainbow and Dreamtime Serpents are absolutely beautiful! (And Jörmungandr is an incredible beast).
One of my favorite spec evo animals is a gliding cobra I made with "hood wings" called the "Sky Ray". Definitely a fun way to terrorize my players!
The fake-out with Shark Week does have me wondering, might you do a future episode on cartilagenous fish in Kaimere? Especially since the name of one of my favorite weirdos is sounds so fitting for the planet: The Chimaera.
I absolutely plan on revisiting sharks with a much more substantial episode than I gave when the channel first started, but I need to wait for someone to sponsor a topic that big.

I'm so happy to hear you love snakes! A lot of snakes make great pets too! You would be hard pressed to find an easier pet to care for than a corn snake, and they can be so personable. I love my dog, but he is so needy compared to my snake, lol.
I was wondering when you were going to cover snakes, honestly the species you got here are really cool! It also answered what was the predator of the aquatic dicynodonts, which Im glad because I was wondering that as well. Let me tell ya, you're kaimere videos really brighten my mood, especially after I got stung in the ass by a yellow jacket while mowing the ditch this morning! Hahahah!!

Probably would live much like the Seridic anaconda, though with as many large endothermic competitors, they probably would struggle and be pressured to smaller size.

The rainbow snake and it’s relatives are particularly interesting. They evolved the rip and tear approach instead of the swallow hole tactic.

@@TalesofKaimereI’m reminded of a group speculative evolution project I worked on a few months ago that resulted in a clade of snakes (possibly related to Colubridae) known as the Saccharophids (Saccharophidae) - basically, omnivorous or even fully herbivorous or frugivorous snakes, many of which with unique dentition to assist that.
For the ones that may ask :
1 - No ! Titanoboa was NEVER harvested on Kaimere. This snake lived during the Eocene era, in which ANY harvest occured.
2 - Modern Sea Snakes that we have on Earth in our ocean, the Hydrophiinae subfamily (inside the Elapidae family), are present as well on Kaimere.
Inside the Known World and a little beyond at least.
It's just that Keenan haven't have time to drawn some of them.

Great episode as always, just a question that has been in my mind for a while, are there any snow leopards or their ancestors in Kaimere (they’re my favorite mammals out there), or were they completely outcompeted by mountain panthers and white cockatrices?
Snakes have always been enigmatic reptiles for me and I never saw them on as much of a bad light as many people, nowadays, I deeply respect them and love them like many other of the beautiful creatures of our world.
Some questions I have about the Kaimerian snakes however:
1.- Does the Seredic anaconda feed mainly on fish or is it also a mammal hunter, if the latter, what mammals and reptiles does it prey upon?
2.- What types of mammals does the great madtsodias (Rainbow serpent and Dreamtide serpent) hunt?
3.- Does the Red Panther hunt anacondas in a similar way jaguars do on South America?

On Objecia, snakes are still diverse. The most common Objecian snakes are hognoses, There are familiar and strange species. Objecia also has cobras, which can be found in the Taurian Desert and some other deserts. Many other familiar snakes can be seen.

Madtsoiidae snakes are really an amazing family of snakes ! With really a lot of traits and facts who are incredible to now !
They were very successfull animals, and lived from the early Cenomanian (Upper Cretaceous) to late Pleistocene, with a range going to South America, Africa, India, Australia and Southern Europe.
Australia where their last home and stronghold at the end of the Pleistocene, with the famous genus Wonambi, being among the Australian megafauna cast.
They were really primitive snakes, and despite being constrictor animals, they weren't able to swallow whole their preys, but instead kill tham and cut flesh from their body with their teeth, most particulary soft organs and skin, and it quite a mystery how they were able to reach such great sizes most of the time with such lifestyle.
The namesake of the family, Madtsoia, is even one of the longest snakes known, at an estimated 10 metres (33 ft).
A very large snake, this animal appear in the sixth episode of "Prehistoric Planet" (S2 episode 1) "Island", killing a Masiakasaurus and saving unvolontary a family of Adalatherium !

Yup! Squamate taxonomy is daunting but it seems silly to call them 'related to lizards' like a lot of content when they're so clearly nested deep in the clade.
With the Dreamtime Serpent and the Jormungandr, and their diverse, close relatives, we now have officially true Sea Serpents on Kaimere !
And under three categories of Sea Snakes :
1 - the True Sea Serpents, who are true snakes, with these giants Madtsoiids species;
2 - the Plesiosaurs (especially the Thalassocolobrus genus, with the Kadanuk, Daikogen or Shodima);
3 - and the Mosasaurs (especially the Sea Serpent and Crocodile Shark clades, like the Katabo, Enam, Enurey, Hamur and their diverse relatives).

Melanistic snakes must be something common on Kaimere, both on constrictor, Madtsoiids and small ones like Colubrid and Vipers.
Because black snakes have a pretty good advantage compared to normal specimens of their species to recover heat more quickly than them.
Because black coloration and color actually recuperate and ingerate better and faster sunlight than typical scales (while white sclales reflect sunlight, which is here a desavantage).
In addition to give a better cammouflage to hide from predators in most biomes.
The Crowned Vipers especially must have most melanistic specimens inside their population than the others snakes species inside the Known World, given their cold and temperate island all year round.
Because having black specimens who can recuperate sunlight and as such heat faster than typical specimens is clearly a selective advantage.
In addtion to be more cammouflage in the dense forests of Pakardia.
On Earth, melanistic snakes, both constrictors and non-constrictors are very-well recorded, and lived perfectly well in the wild.

1. Dreamtime serpent might occasionally find its way to the known world, but they don't have any established populations there, and Jormungandr would cook on the journey through the equator. More likely actual sea snakes (small ones like we have I didn't have time to draw and discuss), elasmosaurs, and the like.
2. Jormungandr does compete with Permian Continentals for prey, though no interactions were documented. Dreamtime Serpents also compete with local peoples, and are known to predate on people on boats.

The Water Viper is none other than one of the famous American Viper Cottonmouth snake's subspecie "Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti" of Florida, who become overtime his own apart complete specie.
Which show how in a fairly short time (less than 1 million years, since the Last Natural/Interupted Harvest was at 11 kya, at the very end of the Last ice Age) animals can evolved into new species !

They're not yet documented enough for an average estimate. The specimen collected was 73 feet (22 meters) long and nearly 30 tons, but it is assumed they can get at least a bit larger.
