Mine was a polar continent covered in mammoth steppe and forests of Araucaria and Nothofagus (like in southern Chile), where paravians like Imperobator, dwarf mastodons, and Suminia descendents lived with several species of human. The tribes would have to work together to survive the polar winter.
I've been inspired too but I did the portal thing and took my own spin to it. I saw the portal idea and turned it to multiple different portal that competes with each other, so they take biomass from other planets. I like xenobiology but I also like this type of spec evo so I thought this could combine both of them
Funnily enough the noise the caribou make might protect them, acting like "noise camouflage" to make it harder to target a single individual in a herd and overall being intimidating to Moorkutlot by sound bigger than they really are. I could see caribou evolution going in either of two ways; becoming quieter and more solitary to reduce noise like most life on Kaishel, or possibly becoming _more_ noisy to be more intimidating to the predator's sensitive hearing.
Taking turns making noise and holding bread, a herd could possibly cause total shock to the silent ones. Also some consequence may be other, more familiar predators moving inland
They would also need a change in visual acuity. Im not sure their extremely niche version of sight would be effective in a forest environment with semi-cold blooded predators.

Now I want an animated or live action series that cover the world of Kaimere.THe only few misteries left are the events of the Age of Witches and the End of the first children's, like how a civilisation powerful enough to create both witches and Homoculie managed to disappear? personnel theory, there a lot of implication that they created some kind of powerful vessel or vector that the Magic swarm used to kill them all, maybe a virus or a plant (Forest of bones ) or something else entirely.

@@ianswinford5570 that is true till we get to the dragon rider civilization of Septenia. They made them drastically larger, giving them pterosaur like air sacs, additional venom glands and even plant cells so they can partially subsist on photosynthesized food.
Halloween came early I see. The sounds for these things are horrifying. The intro is your best yet, Keenan! I can’t believe there are other murder frogs on Kaishell like smaller breeds and a freaking polar bear frog. This project never ceases to astound me.
Tbh July 4th kinda works not only as a diss towards America with these murder frogs, but it also emphasizes how these aren’t fantastical creatures, merely animals doing what they need to survive

Wow, the Heterotherms are probably the most unique creatures I’ve ever seen in speculative evolution, I love how seemingly alien yet also familiar they are, being a descendant from the first harvests! The Moørkutlot is, of course, extremely frightening, and does not disappoint in the horror factor. Although, I do have to wonder what would happen if a breeding population of them got into the Known World? Can’t imagine it’d end well for anyone.
As awesome as the Moorkutlot is, I think the Arctobufo might take the cake as my favorite new beastie in a while! Just the fact they’re mesmerized by the aurora australis and will mimic it with their cuttlefish-level color control makes them oddly adorable. Hopefully we get more expansions on the Heterotherms and other Devonian Dynasty clades in the future, they’re beyond fascinating. Like what’s the story with that gigantic mudskipper-like fish?
This might just be the most anticipated Kaimere video yet!!! This thing, so alien and nearly unnatural-feeling to us yet very well-developed in its habitat, feels like the perfect symbol or mascot for everything unsettling/scary in Kaimere.
What a terrifying thing to be wary of in the forest. The fact that there’s so much scientific reasoning for them existing in Kaimere despite their alien nature is staggering too. I look forward to seeing these creatures in other videos.

This was awesome! They are so unique yet plausible creatures. I do think it would be cool if there was an animal that used the Silent Ones' sensitive hearing against them by becoming louder to disorient them or damage their hearing when pursued. Maybe that could be the direction the Caribou take
Maybe so, but if that sound is only damaging at short ranges, what's stopping more Silent Ones from awakening and waiting on the periphery of the sonic barrier, potentially surrounding the loud beast in question before they have to stop for a breather and then swarming it under??
@@ericward8459they could alternate the frequencies they make thus fooling the ecolocation. By switching from a sonic blast to selective sound nullification they could render themselves invisible to those that arrive who will find their stunned relatives of whom they will consume.

@@ericward8459 probably for quite a while given antler design and lung capacity and aided by the fact they live in herds. So presumably after creating the sonic blast they will start walking away with the young and tired individuals in the middle so that they can catch their breath while still contributing due to their antlers. Given that the silent ones are usually starving after waking from stasis they are unlikely to do a second sweep and would just consume their stunned kin. This naturally won't always work and a second sonic blast would be emitted which will likely lead to the loss of a few members on the perimeter of the herd. From the perspective of the silent ones these trickster caribou are teleporting around, not always being where they should.

The non-Newtonian slime doesn't sound entirely realistic to me... but that doesn't mean its impossible. I like that these lifeforms have adaptations we don't see on Earth. Definitely makes them feel more compelling, and I really like the angle of them being life native to Kaimere(or at least more native than the other animals). Great episode!
Just because something doesn't seem that has arisen now on this epoch doesn't mean it's impossible or unrealistic to appear, take for example bombardier beetles adaptation if they had gone extinct before us and none had gone fossilised you'll likely argue the same that it would be unrealistic for a beetle to develop such adaptations Besides I'm quite certain that many unique and exotic adaptations like this could have arisen once or a few times on different clades but simply disappeared by natural causes and never fossilised such things

What a fantastic episode! The Moøkutlot are so well developed. I enjoy their whole concept, evolutionary history, anatomical and physiological features, behavior, ecological role, the sounds they make, etc. The non-newtonian slime and venom is such an interesting and clever detail and probably my favourites thing about them aside from their physical appearance. I also like the fact that at the same time this video is an overview of the heterotherms in general. Instantly a fan of the Arctobufo. I don't know how you manage to make a hulking apex predator simultaneously be one if the cutest animals, but it is essentially a polar bear frog with the color-changing abilities of a cuttlefish.

The most terrifying predators in all of Kaimere no doubt! I don’t think anyone would want to encounter them. Also any encounter with them would be like a horror movie with the prey having to sneak away slowly and quietly with the fear that the smallest sound could be your doom!

Intriguing predatory alien quite iconic for his lack of eyes complemented by his multiple jaws and sharp sensory flexibility! Bloody Brutal!! A few questions: 1. Aside from salt and their slime having a limit to what it can withstand, are there any other weaknesses of the Silent Ones? 2. Despite being the apex predators of Kaishel, do Moørkutlot sometimes fall prey to other large predators like the Snow King and the Ketlrek? 3. Are there rumors that some Moørkutlot escaped the First Children and are running loose outside of Kaishel? If not, do any of the peoples of the Know World have stories about them? 4. How are those who managed to successfully kill a Silent One viewed by the Tlaton?
When I was told that a thing not understood and unseen (a silhouette) was more terrifying than knowing a thing and seeing the monster, my monster loving mind hated the idea. I understand it more now. An ancient horror of the distant eons praying on the creatures of the present. Yeti frogs were awesome to!:)
Ever since you mentioned heterotherms in your Pterosaur videos, I got really curious. Now that we've introduced the Silent Ones and the others in their clade, it's very scary to see how they've evolved. I even like the movement chart. They are pretty scary, I must say! It must give any Kaimeran nightmare fuel. I'm glad you liked Primeval, as I did too when I watched it. I must say it's very inspiring for my own speculative work. Once again, well done, Keenan!
I absolutely LOVE the idea of an entire clade of animals that have absolutely no relation to any animal in the fossil record of earth, diverging very early in their history. Very speculative!
@@rylanbrewer3320I think that most of the predators we currently known to be in the Highland are the main ones to be present in it. That include, whatever their rank, the Common Cockatrice, Ice Age Leopard subspecies, the Cave Hyena, the local Jackal/Wolf species, the Kaimeran fox, the Cave Lion, the Cave Bear, the Highland homotherium, the local species of Bobcat, several species of marsupial cats, several owls and birds of preys species, the several Bathawk pterosaurs tapejarid and the Titan Crow. By taking into account all of them, it's already a big number who fitt all the possible predators niches possible. It's probable that there some others remaining, outside the area of the Known World, but I can't said to you what they can be.
Mr Taylor you sir are a master of suspense. Your choice of music and how you slowly build to the reveal of this group throughout the episode are masterful. I particularly love the addition of non nutonian fluids employed as both armor and weapon. Another monster these rind me of are the Trimors 2 Shrikers in how the hunting cries act to summon others to a kill. Truly an excellent episode you had chills running up and down my back the entire time
Man... this episode is pure gold! The whole family of beasts you've created will be a fun challenge once I get the current set of beasts done. For the Moorkutlot, I plan on making two separate heads, one showing off its incredible sensory display. On a different note, congratulations for being one of the only people who's created a creature that genuinely scares me! And on another different note, the snow king is a magnificent beast that I'll have the honor of making into a figurine eventually.
As for a base, I could use some lean ungulate for the Moorkutlot. If memory serves, I have a headless big horn sheep body I could use for a base to put the caulk on. As for the Arctobufo Rex... I believe I don't have any model that fits near its description, so I shall make a base out of chop sticks and expanding foam. I should be able to caulk it over and do my sculpting and details.

This is such an awesome video, very cool and I am glad I am not the only one who enjoyed Primeval. In my Spec Evo project of Aotearoa I created a group of flightless bat similar to the Future Predator and the Night Stalker with them being among the dominate predators of the continent. Though not completely blind they were able to take up various niches from being large primate like fruitivores and tiger and dhole like predators and even a few that are sangivores in the dense forests of Aotearoa. Keep up the great work Keenan.

This was such a cool episode! I love all the cool abilities you gave the heterotherms, from their echolocation to their non-Newtonian slime and venom. Far more creative than any of the other silent hunters I've seen in fiction! The other members of the clade like arctobufo and the sloth frog were also quite fascinating to learn about! Truly cool frogs!
That would be fun! They would make a pretty boring protagonist species (metabolism means they are extremely efficient so mostly spend their days sleeping) but they would certainly make for an interesting setting for something else in their environment! There are highly intelligent species of pterosaur in the forests and likely would make good PoV candidates!
@TalesofKaimere True, the sleeping/torpor could make things boring, but could also make for a neat episodic structure taking places over a hundred years or so. Then again, non-newtonian venom is a lot more effective as a story element from the perspective of the victim
These things remind me of a cross between not only the Future Predators from Primeval, but also Gamma Hunters from Resident Evil 3 (Not the remake). Quite disturbing monsters.

Some thing that I’ve noticed in working on my own speculative evolution project Is that a prompt can be very restraining. These limitations can provide fun challenges, but there’s only so much you can do within the realm of feasibility. Your prompt allows you to be so creative! It’s incredible! I absolutely adore this video, it might be my favorite kaimere video, the moorkutlot is one of my favorite animals on the planet, up there with the sauropods, bokodu and uktan. It is one of the most unique animals I’ve ever seen and the things you can imagine and draw are insane. You did a wonderful job! Also it’s worth noting that kaishal and the moorkutlot remind me of the deep dark of Minecraft, with the warden being a giant blind creature that uses sound and smell and the whole gimmick about the biome is that you must be silent to survive
Now THAT is an intro. I was hoping for a section on how they interact with the largest animals and other apexes like Ketrlek but what we got is just as interesting from another direction. 1. What is the best natural or man-made armament to use against a Silent One? 2. Do humans have any interaction with Arctobufo? 3. Do Silent Ones eat on other xenosimia?
Yeah I had a segment on that but was running way over budget as it was. 1. High caliber rifle if you can get one past the portal guards 2. Yes. Tlaton are occasionally prey. 3. Rarely. For the most part other species are either faster on the ground or more nimble in the trees, but they will kill and eat them if they can.

From the description you made of it in the episode, the Silent Ones really seem and look like actual mindless bloodthirsty creatures that attack everything mindlessely on sight (sell hearing here) and who continue to track and try to kill their target to the end whithout stopping one single second by necglecting the environement so they are focused on their target. And always looking for a fight even when and after they just made a kill and eat.... But of course, if there must be a little of this general view, in overall, the Silent Ones don't behave mainly like this. They are actual animals (which is however a little difficult o apply this term on them to be hoenst) and not monster creatures like all the movies of the 1900's century with vintage Aliens or Dinosaurs or some productions like "Jurassic Fight Club" can show. Because, if such a species behaved like this at 100%, that would made her survival very hard and not a good strategy on the short or long term...
To be perfectly honest I don’t know if I’m a major fan of the silent ones now that I understand how they work. The non-Newtonian slime on their bodies feels kind of uneccesary and very excessive for their ecological role? They’re already large, very fast, social, and have the most powerful venom in the world. They could go without it and they’d still rule Kaishel with an iron fist. Nothing is killing them easily. These types of substances are also very energetically expensive to produce, so I don’t know how this animal is possibility surviving with these extreme substances on top of potential decades of dormancy. I also don’t quite understand the point of their extreme hibernation when, if the entire interior of the continent has evolved to avoid them, then surely they are in contact with them for enough time to be reliable prey and thus not have the need for such a thing. There also really isn’t an explanation as to why they are even blind in the first place, but not enough detail is given on their evolutionary history to have an idea about that.
The blindness is from gliding nocturnal arboreal ancestors back in the First Dynasty. Have an explanation for the rest (slime protected their mesopredator ancestors until very recently for example) but I appreciate that some elements are going to be a tough sell and not land for everyone.
@@TalesofKaimere Wouldn’t low light conditions warrant them to increase visual acuity rather than decrease it? Are there any known analogues of such a thing happening? I know of subterranean animals becoming blind but that’s because those are no light conditions rather than low light.

So I FINALLY got a chance to watch this recently and this might be the best episode so far, and that's a high hurdle to clear. I was in the 'they be aliens' camp but this explanation is extremely satisfying and creative. And while the Moortukot are amazing my favorite critter of the episode might actually be the Arctobufo, love the description.
A toothed-whale style melon for focusing sound is only useful underwater (where you're making sounds by setting up vibrations in the body and then transmitting them to the water). In air, your vocal organs are setting up vibrations in the air in the first place, and you're amplifying sounds with resonating chambers, focusing them with ear-type structures, etc.
I am not surprised so many Kaimerans think them to be demons! but you have made their evolution and biology entirely plausible. you even gave them a reasonably plausible way to resist (low-caliber) bullets! very impressed! Take salt water spray wherever you go! make sure one's clothes are nice and salty!

Wow, the Heterotherms are probably the most unique creatures I’ve ever seen in speculative evolution, I love how seemingly alien yet also familiar they are, being a descendant from the first harvests!
The Moørkutlot is, of course, extremely frightening, and does not disappoint in the horror factor. Although, I do have to wonder what would happen if a breeding population of them got into the Known World? Can’t imagine it’d end well for anyone.
I think the honour of the most unique belongs to the metamorph birds from Serina but this one is pretty close
Even the oldest lineage of life can survive in Kaimere
And in the case of the Silent Ones, their lineage can rule a continent
As awesome as the Moorkutlot is, I think the Arctobufo might take the cake as my favorite new beastie in a while! Just the fact they’re mesmerized by the aurora australis and will mimic it with their cuttlefish-level color control makes them oddly adorable.
Hopefully we get more expansions on the Heterotherms and other Devonian Dynasty clades in the future, they’re beyond fascinating. Like what’s the story with that gigantic mudskipper-like fish?
This might just be the most anticipated Kaimere video yet!!! This thing, so alien and nearly unnatural-feeling to us yet very well-developed in its habitat, feels like the perfect symbol or mascot for everything unsettling/scary in Kaimere.
What a terrifying thing to be wary of in the forest. The fact that there’s so much scientific reasoning for them existing in Kaimere despite their alien nature is staggering too. I look forward to seeing these creatures in other videos.

Salt was mostly a nod to a lot of old school fairies either needing to count or being averted to salt

This was awesome! They are so unique yet plausible creatures. I do think it would be cool if there was an animal that used the Silent Ones' sensitive hearing against them by becoming louder to disorient them or damage their hearing when pursued. Maybe that could be the direction the Caribou take

That's not a bad idea, but how effective would that be in practice, do you think? Like, I assume the modulating sound would be made while creature in question is fleeing the Silent Ones. How long could they keep that up before one of the pursuers pinpoints their prey?
@@ericward8459 probably for quite a while given antler design and lung capacity and aided by the fact they live in herds. So presumably after creating the sonic blast they will start walking away with the young and tired individuals in the middle so that they can catch their breath while still contributing due to their antlers. Given that the silent ones are usually starving after waking from stasis they are unlikely to do a second sweep and would just consume their stunned kin. This naturally won't always work and a second sonic blast would be emitted which will likely lead to the loss of a few members on the perimeter of the herd. From the perspective of the silent ones these trickster caribou are teleporting around, not always being where they should.

The non-Newtonian slime doesn't sound entirely realistic to me... but that doesn't mean its impossible. I like that these lifeforms have adaptations we don't see on Earth. Definitely makes them feel more compelling, and I really like the angle of them being life native to Kaimere(or at least more native than the other animals). Great episode!

Just because something doesn't seem that has arisen now on this epoch doesn't mean it's impossible or unrealistic to appear, take for example bombardier beetles adaptation if they had gone extinct before us and none had gone fossilised you'll likely argue the same that it would be unrealistic for a beetle to develop such adaptations
Besides I'm quite certain that many unique and exotic adaptations like this could have arisen once or a few times on different clades but simply disappeared by natural causes and never fossilised such things

What a fantastic episode! The Moøkutlot are so well developed. I enjoy their whole concept, evolutionary history, anatomical and physiological features, behavior, ecological role, the sounds they make, etc. The non-newtonian slime and venom is such an interesting and clever detail and probably my favourites thing about them aside from their physical appearance.
I also like the fact that at the same time this video is an overview of the heterotherms in general. Instantly a fan of the Arctobufo. I don't know how you manage to make a hulking apex predator simultaneously be one if the cutest animals, but it is essentially a polar bear frog with the color-changing abilities of a cuttlefish.
My good sir… the design, the behavior, the ear flaps covering the face BRINGING ME NIGHTMARES, the drawings themselves, this is my favorite of your creatures!! These are so cool, so in depth, so fun, I don’t believe anyone’s taken this approach to a spec evo early lizard echolocation monster, seriously so cool, you are underrated ✨

The most terrifying predators in all of Kaimere no doubt! I don’t think anyone would want to encounter them. Also any encounter with them would be like a horror movie with the prey having to sneak away slowly and quietly with the fear that the smallest sound could be your doom!
The most coherent, scientifically plausible and realistic version of this archetypal silencer killer! Intriguing predatory alien quite iconic for his lack of eyes complemented by his multiple jaws and sharp sensory flexibility! Bloody Brutal!! Also wacky, crooked and awesome speculative backstory origin!!

When I was told that a thing not understood and unseen (a silhouette) was more terrifying than knowing a thing and seeing the monster, my monster loving mind hated the idea. I understand it more now. An ancient horror of the distant eons praying on the creatures of the present.

That include, whatever their rank, the Common Cockatrice, Ice Age Leopard subspecies, the Cave Hyena, the local Jackal/Wolf species, the Kaimeran fox, the Cave Lion, the Cave Bear, the Highland homotherium, the local species of Bobcat, several species of marsupial cats, several owls and birds of preys species, the several Bathawk pterosaurs tapejarid and the Titan Crow.
By taking into account all of them, it's already a big number who fitt all the possible predators niches possible.
It's probable that there some others remaining, outside the area of the Known World, but I can't said to you what they can be.

I particularly love the addition of non nutonian fluids employed as both armor and weapon. Another monster these rind me of are the Trimors 2 Shrikers in how the hunting cries act to summon others to a kill. Truly an excellent episode you had chills running up and down my back the entire time

Love the sounds on the Silent Ones
Man... this episode is pure gold! The whole family of beasts you've created will be a fun challenge once I get the current set of beasts done. For the Moorkutlot, I plan on making two separate heads, one showing off its incredible sensory display. On a different note, congratulations for being one of the only people who's created a creature that genuinely scares me! And on another different note, the snow king is a magnificent beast that I'll have the honor of making into a figurine eventually.
As for a base, I could use some lean ungulate for the Moorkutlot. If memory serves, I have a headless big horn sheep body I could use for a base to put the caulk on. As for the Arctobufo Rex... I believe I don't have any model that fits near its description, so I shall make a base out of chop sticks and expanding foam. I should be able to caulk it over and do my sculpting and details.

This is such an awesome video, very cool and I am glad I am not the only one who enjoyed Primeval. In my Spec Evo project of Aotearoa I created a group of flightless bat similar to the Future Predator and the Night Stalker with them being among the dominate predators of the continent. Though not completely blind they were able to take up various niches from being large primate like fruitivores and tiger and dhole like predators and even a few that are sangivores in the dense forests of Aotearoa. Keep up the great work Keenan.

This was such a cool episode! I love all the cool abilities you gave the heterotherms, from their echolocation to their non-Newtonian slime and venom. Far more creative than any of the other silent hunters I've seen in fiction! The other members of the clade like arctobufo and the sloth frog were also quite fascinating to learn about!

Dude these are the coolest things I've ever seen, I NEED a documentary on them like how you recently did with the Uktan
That would be fun! They would make a pretty boring protagonist species (metabolism means they are extremely efficient so mostly spend their days sleeping) but they would certainly make for an interesting setting for something else in their environment! There are highly intelligent species of pterosaur in the forests and likely would make good PoV candidates!
@TalesofKaimere True, the sleeping/torpor could make things boring, but could also make for a neat episodic structure taking places over a hundred years or so. Then again, non-newtonian venom is a lot more effective as a story element from the perspective of the victim

Whoa 😳. I knew the introduction to the heterotherms would be cool but you blew this one out of the park! Some thing that I’ve noticed in working on my own speculative evolution project Is that a prompt can be very restraining. These limitations can provide fun challenges, but there’s only so much you can do within the realm of feasibility. Your prompt allows you to be so creative! It’s incredible! Truly unique and fascinating take on the “future predator” trope!
I absolutely adore this video, it might be my favorite kaimere video, the moorkutlot is one of my favorite animals on the planet, up there with the sauropods, bokodu and uktan. It is one of the most unique animals I’ve ever seen and the things you can imagine and draw are insane. You did a wonderful job! Also it’s worth noting that kaishal and the moorkutlot remind me of the deep dark of Minecraft, with the warden being a giant blind creature that uses sound and smell and the whole gimmick about the biome is that you must be silent to survive
Now THAT is an intro. I was hoping for a section on how they interact with the largest animals and other apexes like Ketrlek but what we got is just as interesting from another direction.

2. Do humans have any interaction with Arctobufo?
3. Do Silent Ones eat on other xenosimia?
Yeah I had a segment on that but was running way over budget as it was.

2. Yes. Tlaton are occasionally prey.
3. Rarely. For the most part other species are either faster on the ground or more nimble in the trees, but they will kill and eat them if they can.

From the description you made of it in the episode, the Silent Ones really seem and look like actual mindless bloodthirsty creatures that attack everything mindlessely on sight (sell hearing here) and who continue to track and try to kill their target to the end whithout stopping one single second by necglecting the environement so they are focused on their target.
And always looking for a fight even when and after they just made a kill and eat....
But of course, if there must be a little of this general view, in overall, the Silent Ones don't behave mainly like this.
They are actual animals (which is however a little difficult o apply this term on them to be hoenst) and not monster creatures like all the movies of the 1900's century with vintage Aliens or Dinosaurs or some productions like "Jurassic Fight Club" can show.
Because, if such a species behaved like this at 100%, that would made her survival very hard and not a good strategy on the short or long term...
Their clicks kinda remind me of the Yautja from the Predator movies but overall this video is great!
To be perfectly honest I don’t know if I’m a major fan of the silent ones now that I understand how they work. The non-Newtonian slime on their bodies feels kind of uneccesary and very excessive for their ecological role? They’re already large, very fast, social, and have the most powerful venom in the world. They could go without it and they’d still rule Kaishel with an iron fist. Nothing is killing them easily. These types of substances are also very energetically expensive to produce, so I don’t know how this animal is possibility surviving with these extreme substances on top of potential decades of dormancy. I also don’t quite understand the point of their extreme hibernation when, if the entire interior of the continent has evolved to avoid them, then surely they are in contact with them for enough time to be reliable prey and thus not have the need for such a thing. There also really isn’t an explanation as to why they are even blind in the first place, but not enough detail is given on their evolutionary history to have an idea about that.
Seconded. I enjoyed the episode but it does take away the mystique when we know all the details.
The blindness is from gliding nocturnal arboreal ancestors back in the First Dynasty. Have an explanation for the rest (slime protected their mesopredator ancestors until very recently for example) but I appreciate that some elements are going to be a tough sell and not land for everyone.
@@TalesofKaimere Wouldn’t low light conditions warrant them to increase visual acuity rather than decrease it? Are there any known analogues of such a thing happening? I know of subterranean animals becoming blind but that’s because those are no light conditions rather than low light.
For much of the year the tilt of the planet made it dark for around half the year. Tilt is not as extreme but it’s still dark for a couple months

So I FINALLY got a chance to watch this recently and this might be the best episode so far, and that's a high hurdle to clear. I was in the 'they be aliens' camp but this explanation is extremely satisfying and creative. And while the Moortukot are amazing my favorite critter of the episode might actually be the Arctobufo, love the description.

A toothed-whale style melon for focusing sound is only useful underwater (where you're making sounds by setting up vibrations in the body and then transmitting them to the water). In air, your vocal organs are setting up vibrations in the air in the first place, and you're amplifying sounds with resonating chambers, focusing them with ear-type structures, etc.
