  • Legends of enormous humans are a staple of folklore and mythology. Most cultures in Earth’s history have stories about giants. Kaimere is the same. While not all aspects of giant folklore are true, the hinterlands beyond the known world are teeming with all sorts of oversized beings.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

As always It was a very good episode !
Especially since most of what we get as topics and videos are about either the animals clades present on kaimere or Humans/Kaimeran societies realted stuff.
Honestly, I didn't understand why we had to wai so much time before peope sponsored, in a single row on top of that, several videos about Homunculies, Cryptids and others Magic related topics domain.
It should have even being the very first thing people should have gived they money for, to you, at the start of this channel.
Because it's a realistic Spec Evo project, yet you managed to realistically (okay some plot devices here and here, but still a great level of realism) to put in this setting mythical and fantasy beasts that couldn't have evolved naturally otherwise.
So, people should had been more interested about the why, how and what of that !
But I guess that Dinosaurs and Prehistoric fauna are more popular than Mythical Beast created by tiny evil kids that thought to be gods and played with powers they didn't understand and have finally surpassed them...

Nice video on giants. Some questions:
    1. Any giants composed of ghlanos?
    2. Did other giants (such as hill ogres, forest ogres, trolls, and wealcantrows) made it to Kairul?
    3. Considering dragons have air sacs and photosynthetic cells, technically would they be considered homunculi (even though breeding with natural wild dragons)?
    4. What pressured the hinterland giants to evolve into being large?

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      1. If there were, that strain has either gone extinct or been absorbed into other giants. While the leading theory is boar and a proboscidean are responsible for the non-titan expressions of common ogres, it's possible that ghlanos is responsible for it. Their feet have an elephantine quality to them, but some scholars argue they're also pretty close to ghlanos feet.
      2. There are reports of Kairulan wealcantrow, but at least one examined was a tree with human influence, not a human with tree influence, so likely not the same thing. When the Maku traveled from Qajar to Kairul, they were accompanied by many homunculi, so there may be giants not yet discovered by the Assembly. Dead Tree Grandmother from a story in Songs of the Inland Sea was a strain of magic which bound a woman to a tree, but that was thought to be wild magic (which may have been the template used by the First Children to create wealcantrow).
      3. Some would argue yes. They don't appear to have been made by the First Children, but there is a striking similarity in the domestication process.
      4. During their time on the prairies before the arrival of houze grass, being long-legged was extremely good adaptation for efficient travel. It was not selected against once they got to other regions. They grow faster than humans, reaching maturity a bit earlier as an adaptation to such a high-stress ecosystem.

I actually have such an encounter briefly shown in one of my stories! In that particular case they were fighting over a corpse. Three ogres harassed the uktan for a while, but eventually it lunged at one. He fell, a dangerous situation for one so tall, and the ogres backed down. Important to remember that while ogres are taller, uktan are around 6 times heavier. Spears and sling stones are potent weapons that can make up the difference, especially in a group, but in that particular case they lost the engagement. I could certainly see a situation in which the ogres not only chased off an uktan but even kill one, though their numbers would likely take a hit as well. In general, ogre avoid uktan and are on the theropod's menu.
