Favorite Dylan song. Always has been.. Mike looked out and sent me my mom love when she was passing. She loved social D.... thank you Mike.. I’ll never forget that❤😊
The fact this is a punk legend just shows how great Mike Ness is. I love this album. His influence of real Country & Western shows so much in Social Distortion.
Dude is amazingly great person…my brother is a sound engineer in the industry and said this is my moms favorite band. She had a stroke a few months back. He personally wrote good thoughts for her … legend and ❤❤❤❤
@mynameisJG Mike ness has been performing live without pre-recorded teacks for 30 years unlike most of the modern pop-era computer milled out bullshit that's on the radio these days... He's the real deal bro.
I think the man is SUPER TALENTED, considering his music range is out of this world. I think his music, punk, rock, country/hillbilly, or acoustic solo.....he's talented with music.
There is a few and far in between singers out there that can take music and make it sound good to any beat, but he/Social Distortion can take a good classic country sound and like give it more life than what it had. Some of the old country songs are hard to beat just by leaving them alone, but his/group version is like "I don't know"..lol. It's really good music....
Have you heard Waylon Jennings' version of Don't Think Twice? th-cam.com/video/RgD5sY3Wme8/w-d-xo.html Mike is to be commended for covering the song but Waylon's version is the one for me. The lyrics don't need to be sung with the hard grit Ness puts into them. In fact, when the lyrics are really listened to and understood, the singer tells a regrettable story from a position of having the strength to move on. Strength is emphasized with restraint in tone and tenor. In other words, sometimes less is more. Waylon's version makes that point without trying. It's timeless. .
Chrissy - I will always think of you when I hear Social D and Mike Ness. Even though we aren't in each other's lives any more, I will always treasure each moment we had together. I don't know where you are or what happened to you but I hope you are happy and have gotten everything in life. Spencer
I remember talking with Mike about a t shirt at a gig back in 1998.. love his music, and wonderfully written lyrics, tender, pure and real. Great Dylan cover!
Lol a lot younger still then. Saw him in Detroit in 99 promoting this album after Dennis" death (rip 😢) and numerous times throughout the years after when social distortion started touring again from early 2000s till present. Ness and Social D quite literally saved my life during those years at the crossroads when I had only three choices left....prison, death, or taking responsibility and becoming a man. All but a few of my friends died along the way before that. The ones still alive were already serving time. I decided I still had shit to do and places to see. The rest is history

This is so pure and in your face kind of music.not the bullshit that a lot of people play.Something to be said about a guy who gives his all in a live performance like this. You either get it or you don't,Mike Ness could care less either way!
I swear, every artist brings something new to this song -- and I love them all! Used to be ultra-faithful to the Peter, Paul, and Mary version, and then I found out what I should have known... that Bob Dylan wrote it, I got hooked on this one... a friend turned me on to this one... thanks!
I only recently went and listened to the Bob Dylan version. I was really not expecting just how completely Ness transformed it into his own. Dylan's version is just a stark acoustic folk ballad. Ness completely reworked it into some punk/country hybrid tune that could not have been more different. But that's how you make a cover tune your own. More artists should take a lesson from him. There are FAR too many lazy ass performers these days just copying other people's music note for note and calling it a cover song.
Chris Lawrence playing the B-Bender Telecaster made famous by late 1960's early 1970's Byrds guitarist Clarence White. (not the same guitar, just same concept)
Jonathan Crain does mike ness still performs occasionally with this lineup?, i mean that guy on the tele is fucking rad, saw th ewoodstock performance too, what he does on the slide is beautiful..
strictly speaking height wise, yeah, Mike's a shortie. Got to meet him a few times after some shows and was shocked that we were about the same size (I'm 5'3 in combat boots). LOVE SD though, and would love to see a Ness solo tour as well!
I was working at a club (Berkeley Square) on University Avenue in Bezerkeley. I'd heard of this band that was supposed to be good so I dropped by in time to help bring them their dinner. A nicer, more cheerful or clean bunch of lads I've seldom met. I'd missed their sound check, &c., so imagine my surprise when they opened up their set with "1945". Appearances mislead.
I swear, as the years go on... one of my fave Dylan covers ever.
He completely re-invented it. It sounds NOTHING like Dylan's version. Those are always the best covers.
100%
Favorite Dylan song. Always has been.. Mike looked out and sent me my mom love when she was passing. She loved social D.... thank you Mike.. I’ll never forget that❤😊
Today's country artist's take note, this is how its done!
The fact this is a punk legend just shows how great Mike Ness is. I love this album. His influence of real Country & Western shows so much in Social Distortion.
That guy sure can rock a telecaster!!!!!!!!
2021; still loving the life they breathed into this cover. Wish radio would play stuff with this level of attitude
One of if not THE best cover of this song. Definitely top two favorites at least
@@MrSwitchblade327 check out mtv 120 minutes of ness doing this tune,, u will like the song even more
Dude is amazingly great person…my brother is a sound engineer in the industry and said this is my moms favorite band. She had a stroke a few months back. He personally wrote good thoughts for her … legend and ❤❤❤❤
That lead guitarist just kills it.
I love Charlie Q's drumming on this. Rip man
Been trying to play this for over a yr and can't quite get it right
I miss seeing him drum.
Country shuffles like that are brutal. Our drummer never could get it down. Lol
Charlie was a great drummer RIP. My fav SD drummer by far!!!
Charlie! I admit I shed some tears when I heard. It really affected me. Loved his work with Cracker, too
@mynameisJG Mike ness has been performing live without pre-recorded teacks for 30 years unlike most of the modern pop-era computer milled out bullshit that's on the radio these days... He's the real deal bro.
Apparently 12 people thought twice. I swear people just come on here to thumb things down. And Ness just gets it.
Well fuck 'em..
Ya either get it, or ya don't...
Not my problem...
My favorite version. These boys were on fire that day!
Amazing to find a Conan video where none of the comments are about Conan!
Goddamn, I love watching Chris rock that Telecaster.

Wendy Bumpas
I'd love to see a Mike Ness - Neko Case collaboration on something. Not sure what, but it would be hard to get that wrong, really.
Wendy BumpasBlues too. He and Social D blend it all into punkabilly. Great musician, songwriter, true showman, and one of the best frontmen around.;
I'd have to agree with C. parks
Punk rock Elvis
LONG LIVE SOCIAL DISTORTION, I MET THEM BACK IN 80 AND FOLLOWED THEM EVER SINCE
Best Dylan cover EVER
Totally
😎👍🏼👍🏼
There are 28 people who are completely clueless. This is better than Bob Dylan could have ever envisioned. Brilliant, just awesome.
Phenomenal.. just absolutely brilliant.. one of the greatest covers of any tune ever.
One of my favorite covers ever. Both of Mike's country albums are perfect.
THE most underrated musician ever...NESS FUCKIN RULES...Especially LIVE...
That's Christopher Lawrence on the telecaster. I've seen J2B play with them in other videos and he's usualy on an acoustic. They are both aweseome.
i love how Mike Ness clearly loves music.
Mike is the man.he plays each note with heart . i wish they would come back this way. I havent seen them since somewhere between heaven and hell
God every single thing about this vid is perfect. PERFECT.
Big John McCarthy is killing it on the drums
🤣
If a boxed set-style album of Dylan covers is ever released, this one needs to be included!!

Bob Dylans rebellious punk rock brother!! Lol Ness fookin killed it with this performance. By far the best I've ever seen on a late night TV show
Stellar!
Heart and soul is in this! One of my favourites
social distortion is the best band in the world god gave every single of them amazing talents😃❤
justus maddock This isn’t Social D!
Epic performance
I think Chris Lawrence might need to employ an assistant just to get into those jeans he's wearing.
Chrissy - I will always think of you when I hear Social D and Mike Ness. Even though we aren't in each other's lives any more, I will always treasure each moment we had together. I don't know where you are or what happened to you but I hope you are happy and have gotten everything in life. Spencer
If Country was this good I would have respect for that genre. Mike Ness = Rock God.
RIP Charlie!!!
I remember talking with Mike about a t shirt at a gig back in 1998.. love his music, and wonderfully written lyrics, tender, pure and real. Great Dylan cover!
Mr. T five bucks on a tank top?
How much for the cigar?
Definitely one of the bands I would go and see whenever they come around
Love the dude with telecaster
rockidioto that's chris lawrence on the telecaster . Seen mike ness solo 3 or 4 times and chris is amazing live.
Mike's cover of this song is one of the reasons I named my son Dylan.
I'm glad Mike is back on the road after the cancer scare. I wish he would do a solo tour again
The best of Punkabilly
Look at the classic bass they are rocking here fucking classic
So good
love this version...

マイクネス、かっこよいわ
There you go! I love this songs guitar solo. A couple notes were missed a t the top of the scale, but still dope.
I love charlie Q drumming style
Great cover!
Charlie on drums a legend
Rest In Peace Charlie. Truly a master that didn’t get anywhere near the credit he deserved. Hope he knows he’s greatly appreciated.
Yes, Charlie on drums, and Brent Harding on the bass.
RIP.
This Is Pure Genius!
I love the guitar player on the right!
Great Rockabilly Tune
muy buen guitarrista.... una bestia del rock and roll!!!
Happy Birthday Mike

That made me chuckle.
Brilliant stuff!
Still loving every note of Cheating At Solitaire in 2024!

I am so fucking sorry I missed this tour.
I saw him at the Del Mar fairgrounds in 1999 during Hootenanny. Other than a Guttermouth show, honestly my first big concert.
powerfull song excelent performance
Wow that’s a well done performance man !!
Great job boys...
Awesomeness!
Great video! Thanks for posting
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good
This is a great version of this awesome song... 2nd only to JR Cash!!!
maybe dude. but perfection it's just a word that no one can define almost in it's own beautiful
YEEHAW! MIKE NESS!
He's mah favorite outlaw.
Forgot that I loved this song 😭.
It's Judd Nelson as Mike Ness in "The Mike Ness Story".
Chris Lawrence playing the B-Bender Telecaster made famous by late 1960's early 1970's Byrds guitarist Clarence White. (not the same guitar, just same concept)
Chris Lawrence on the Tele. Saw them at Woodstock 99
Chris Lawrence just slays. Those B-Bender licks are just out of this world. Nothing sounds better in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
Jonathan Crain Great clear tone as well
Jonathan Crain does mike ness still performs occasionally with this lineup?, i mean that guy on the tele is fucking rad, saw th ewoodstock performance too, what he does on the slide is beautiful..
Yes he does. Whenever he's taking break from Social D he hooks up with his solo act. Saw them last in 2008 I believe.
I remember when this first aired. Fuck i feel old.

Hey wasn't this on Conan O'Brien? Great song \m/
Yep. Used to show Conan's intro but guessing was cut off for copyright reasons..
strictly speaking height wise, yeah, Mike's a shortie. Got to meet him a few times after some shows and was shocked that we were about the same size (I'm 5'3 in combat boots). LOVE SD though, and would love to see a Ness solo tour as well!
Awesome!

Holy shit...!
