    2 things i love about 1 piece:
    1. How the single goal of the series stays the same but grows in context: I want to be Pirate King! Seems like a silly arbitrary shonen goal but as you move along you come to truly appreciate the consequences, historical and geopolitical aspirations of such a goal
    2. Luffy may be dumb but hes emotionally intelligent. He reads people well, is always learning what it means to be a great leader and what true freedom really means (healthcare, access to history, food scarcity, responsibility...)

people say that Luffy is very emotional intelligent and I cou'dn't agree more. But I believe it's much more that that. He's not just reading people and all. He always has a right answer to the hardest dilemmas. As if he lives his life without ever feeling like to put a "but" in a middle of a sentense. This is so subtle, yet I think this is the reason why he's so captivating as a character.

    That's nice to hear!
People have to think of it as it is. It is a story, and the dynamics of a story goes in how it affects you. You let it. You're not to think of it as an undertaking. It's not a burden, or kind of load, lest it allow you turn it into a job like that daily grind that eventually takes your life, or a backlog like some show, or a game, or a book.
It's just meant for you to enjoy it. If it makes you think, that's a sign it's doing better than its price. If it changes certain perspectives, especially if it makes you optimistic or makes you question the deeper things, then it's doing good. And good is serious undertaking in understanding content, especially since what's "good" and what's "bad" is actually being asked. So it's kind of meta, and in applying that kind of meta in a story of absurdity of both ends of the spectrum between realistic or fantastic it will get, makes it do great, although not as good as its actual value. It's not a medical, or law, or scientific how-to book, but I promise you it has saved countless lives.
I'm not speaking for all OP fans, but I honestly believe that the thousand plus episodes/chapters/volumes just isn't enough.
Good luck! It'll be worth it.

How can anyone who actually watches or reads One Piece hate Luffy?
Yes, he isnt intelligent in the academic way. BUT he is probably the most emtionally intelligent person in the entire story of One Piece. Means he allways sees through what people say and knows exactly what they feel and who they really are. Not to mention he is willing to go through hell and back for friends and family, even good people he just met. As long as he knows they are good people, he will do whatever he can to help.
    Remember Nami in Coco Village?
    Remember Usopp in Syrup Village?
    Rember Vivi in Alabasta?
He allways gets people to open up to him and to fully trust him.
Is he a goofball? Sure. A moron a lot of times? No question. But there is a reason why everyone is drawn to him and why no villan can really break him. But my frient, be prepared for the next arc if you are currently at Water 7... it will change the entire game and you will probably understand my point even better!

As someone who repeatedly heard about one piece and never had the faintest interest in it until I watched the Live Action and moved to the anime... YES.
I just got done with skypiea which was f***ing incredible.
What interests me now is a lot of people say it "gets good" (what they mean is "gets incredible") around water seven/enies lobby, the next two major arcs of the show for me.
I've never heard anyone say much about skypiea at all. So if those two are apparently so good they completely overshadow skypiea I am HYPED.
Also I don't think the time sink of watching it matters. Whether you actually watch all of it will depend on how much you like it.
If you don't, you won't lose all that time. If you do, you have a lot of entertainment for a very long time :)

"Packed" is an understatement, I think the slowest the anime gets is a quest to find an old Yagura and Sanji Side story about the All-Blue, the rest of the next 2 arcs is so full of action I deleted my initial descriptions of the roller coaster you are about to see to avoid spoilers, they are where everything you have seen so far leads to and get references to everything for like 3 arcs afterwards.

@@outrightflame4280 Skypiea is like the starting hill of a rollercoaster, it has a few looping tracks in the endgame(teaching Dials, mantra, and Enel's fight), then the escape arc from the Sky and marine base are fun, but mainly the arc is a spectacular set-up and power up arc for the crew, especially the weaker ones, without dials Nami and Usopp were fairly weak, Usopp got so OP with them he could stand against Luffy and deal significant damage, something he was utterly incapable of before that, even after the training arc the Dials likely contribute about 40-50% of his combat ability, his training mainly raising his base physical abilities and giving his arsenal a wider variety of applications.

after Water Seven there will be more and more eps that have bad pacing. That's because One Piece doesn't have much filler, so they have to slow down the pace by only taking 1 chapter or even less for one ep. Btw for normal anime, usually they take 2-6 chapters depending on the length.

The funniest thing about starting One Piece is that you THINK the time consumption on your life is only going to be the one read/watch of it, but no. No no no no no. No. After you catch up, you're left hanging, waiting for the next chapter/episode. What to do in that time? Hm... oh look, a BAZILLION THEORY VIDEOS to consume your life with. And, oh, CHARACTER/HISTORY/ARC breakdowns? What's this, an AMV or five thousand?
And then you start trying to get your pals to watch/read it too, and they're resistant because who has the time, right? Enough people in your life are like "It can't be that good." so you start to second-guess yourself. Is it actually that good? You feel the need to look for validation, a second opinion.... so you start looking for other peoples' thoughts, and that leads to newbie reactions. And that leads to a rewatch/reread when they mention or notice something you didn't pick up the last time around, because you just have to get your facts right, right?
Congrats, welcome to the rabbit hole, make yourself at home because you're part of the ship, part of the crew, part of the cult. __THERE IS NO ESCAPE__

It's so strange to me (though I also understand) how people see watching a series as investing time and costing time. That's like not taking Netflix, because there's too much to watch. You are watching because you want to watch something. If that is not One Piece, you will likely still be watching something else. Also, you don't have to finish at all! It's not a task you need to finish, it's a tv program that you hopefully like watching.

Thriller Bark is silly, but the ending is cool. You're still far off the truly crazy sh1t by some distance. But you're getting there slowly but surely. My fav anime remains Claymore tho, nothing is crazier.

Honestly for anyone who's worried about the length I would say that there's no reason why you have to read it all in one go, it's fine to go slow. I actually think it works great at a slower pace, maybe one arc per month, especially in the beginning. Back when I started, I was reading one volume per month because that's how the Finnish translation was released (at first, it got a lot slower later on unfortunately)
... That said this is absolutely a trap, and almost everybody ends up binging anyway lmao

5:46 I was about to say for Luffy it's different because in one piece you have no freedom either be a pirate and experience freedom for the first time or accept the tyranny and be a peasant forever
But the way our society is degenerating I guess soon we will be in the same boat either rebel and fight the system and go crazy or accept a life of eternal poverty and stress

(I keep having to edit this comment lol) Absolute top tier video. I love your analogies. I am nearly caught up with the anime and this past year of watching one piece has been so much fun. All the point you made in this video were spot on. Some stuff just to look out for in the future while watching going forward as you are at the part of the series where the writing takes off, keep an eye on villain writing, a little later on from where you are you will actually start to hate the villain because of their actions and all your rage towards those characters gets personified through luffy which is really cool to watch. Oda does a really good job at writing villains and each battle will have you on the edge of your seat. I think you will really enjoy the rest of the series. I always say the first 30 episodes are the hardest then it’s all downhill from there. You have yet to see some of the greatest moments of the series some even make enis lobby look like an eventless arc. In the late 1000s (I won’t spoil anything) I began to realize even more than I already did that I was watching and enjoying one of the largest and one of the best if not the best piece of media in all of history. This show will have u watching a characters whole life destroyed and then luffy coming in to help them. It’s a truly amazing story. I almost wish I could go back so I could watch it for the first time again it’s that good. Continue to post about your one piece journey this video was great I’m interested to see what you do in the future

The reason why so many people are hesitant to watch One Piece is because the anime isn't a great adaptation.
One Piece currently should be at around 540 episodes instead of 1019 episodes. That's right, One Piece is about 479 episodes longer than it's supposed to be. This should help people understand how bad the pacing of the anime is.
Also, there's a ton of really stupid filler that's mixed into canon episodes.
I'd recommend One Pace or the manga.

Luffy haters are crazy, how can you hate the embodiment of honesty. People fall for his good-natured will and forget he's captain, even when he's literally screaming "im going to be king of the pirates!". Yes his personality isn't the most common, but thats what makes him such a reliable character, you always know luffy will tell you how it is, what's happening, and that he's got your back. He empathises with the characters and situations around him, yes you do end up getting the impression he's stupid and yeah probably so, however he's so deeply wise to the point he has some of the most emotionally intelligent moments in one piece. How does he do this? My theory is he's brave enough to admit he doesn't know the answer. Life's complicated and nothing is guaranteed, so luffy chooses the path he wants most. Brilliantly enough this loops back to his good-nature. No spoilers but luffy is a serial exposer of the truth, you might not want to admit something and that's fine, but when it comes down to it, luffy is there with open arms ready to accept the truth no matter how scary that can be.
