Hey cool, soon as I heard her crying I knew this was a game about La Llorona, a cautionary tale about the spirit of a woman who drowned her children in a jealous rage and seeks new replacement kids (to drown). Parents sometimes tell their kids in Hispanic cultures not to go near rivers or La Llorona will get them... the real aim is just to keep kids away from the danger of drowning.
If i'm not mistaken it's a tale of a woman that has two children, she wants to marry a guy she loves, but he declined because she has children, in a fit of desperation she drowned her two children and came back to marry the guy. After realizing what she did to her child, she became regretful and either commited not alive and became a vengeful spirit

@@trudiesavage9511 I think It's the woman from a scary website comic where the ghost is looking for her child and protag tells them it's further down. As for what happens after, It's up to you to find It. :^)
The lore of this creature and it's name varies form place to place, for example, my grandpa told me about "la silampa", and indigenous beautiful young lady that was seduced by a Spanish inquisitor in the 16th century. He told her he was the son of the king and he needed to return to Spain, but he was gonna come back and when he did, he was gonna marry her, but before going, he needed a proof of her love, so he got her pregnant. Since she was pregnant and not married, it was A big deal, so she drowned the kids in a desperated attempt to "keep her innocence". He never returned and the lady started crying for her children forever. My gf grandparents told her another type of origin since they are from a different province from the one i was born. They tell the tale of "La llorona" a woman wo had 2 children, but was busy partying and whoring arrond. One night, her husband left and told her to take care of the children because he was "going for milk", he was sick of her and was trying to taught her a lesson. Nevertheless, she was holding until she couldn't and at midnight she stopped taking care of her children and went partying "for just some minutes", when she remembered her children at 4 AM, it was a little too late, they were both dead. She started crying, forever, then, she carried the children to a nearby river, she drowned them, and kept on crying forever It wold be interesting to her the other types of origins she has, because she indeed has a lot, but almost all of those stories have the same ending.
It's really interesting to hear these versions! The one I always hear being told is that she drowned her kids in a jealous rage after her husband left her for another woman, or after she found out he cheated on her. I also heard there is a version of her where she has the face of a horse, tho I forgot what region/country that version is from.
@@oof_flores3425 I was told the same one as a child. Madly in love with this man and had 2 boys together but they were poor and couldn't afford much either because bad luck or because the husband would gamble it all away. Then he ran off with another woman. Upset about this and sad that her children were starving, she decides to take them to the cliff and push them into the river. After, she realizes what she's done and cries endlessly for them and jumps in afterward. Another version was just how crazy she was. Always jealous and lonely any time her husband was off trying to make ends meet for their poor family. She heard rumors that he was planning to leave her and take the kids with him because of her toxic behavior. So she decides "If I can't have them/you, then no one will" and goes to the cliff and convinces her crying begging boys to jump off. Her husband comes back excited to tell her that he has found a proper job that will save them from poverty and then she realizes what she's done and confesses. He then actually leaves her and she goes to the cliff to morn her children.
Damn, I didn't realize it was la llorona until they mentioned it at the end, such a good approach. It's always nice to see games inspired by folklore and mythos!

Nice to see a game based on my country, it is based on the tale of La Llorona, one that is common in a lot of countries of Latam but each country have their own take of the tale, for example in my country there is a ton of rivers and coasts, so naturally some farming areas are around those and this tale was build around that. From what I remember for example she was a working woman in the field that had a child she couldn't take care, kept it hidden until drowning it in the middle of a night, time passed and she had other child she could take care, but she heard the screams of the other children, went looking for it with the second child and I think it ended with both drowning and she now hunting those farming areas near rivers or coasts in look of the first children while taking whoever she founds into the water with her as the role of the second child.

My grandparents and great grandparents are very familiar with the llorona. My great grand father had to convince my grand father not to investigate her wailing, Probably saved his life. Gand dad told me that he knew something was wrong because of how incredibly loud her wailing was. He said it was so loud that he thought it was coming from right outside the front door. But of course, He took a look outside and there no one there. Which of course means it was coming from really far away.

I'd love to imagine that you're doomed to be cursed because you have the soul of her child and that's why she believes you're her child and why she's so adamant that you need to be her kid.
16:49 this moment becomes more funny when a) he says run for your life and b) as a child you're really just walking to the bridge, can't really run full speed.

It may not be a reference, but its a nice coincidence

When you believe the ghost woman was desperate enough...
Ghostussy got me acting supernatural
Oh yeah when the plot is pedophilia
when talking to her, I was waiting for her face to be real close to the screen after one of those text boxes.
She started crying, forever, then, she carried the children to a nearby river, she drowned them, and kept on crying forever
It wold be interesting to her the other types of origins she has, because she indeed has a lot, but almost all of those stories have the same ending.

I feel like this game is inspired by the "La leyenda de la llorona"
Where basically a Nigth a Mother drowned her Kid, And she basically killed herselfe out if guilt, Since then people hear at nigth her cries and kidnapes children.
Some say the Louder the cries are, The safer you are, And theres varius Version of this story.
Could just be a coincidance do or just strait up another story from another inspired leyend/Folkclore or someting
I was thinking the same thing, but I believe that Costa Rica has a similar story/another version to La llorona so, maybe it was based off that specific version
It confirms it is indeed La Llorona at the end

this is one of the best horror games ive seen put out in a while, genuinely unnerved me honestly, i liked this a lot :]
her design is simple but oh so effective, i think the lest effecive scare was when she kinda moved back on forth in one of the death scenes, but overall the suspense, and the mechanics of the loop are really cool.

the thumbnail alone freaked me the hell out
Simple and somewhat generic but effective nonetheless.
Out of most horror thumbnails this one creeps me out the most
My grandparents and great grandparents are very familiar with the llorona.
I was having a bad day, and this helped me out. Thanks so much, Manly. Your videos never fail to make me happy

It is slightly sad but at the same time if you agree to be her child she literally said she will drown you as many times necessary
_Based on a great story_
I found this game very chilling. The grayscale art and heavy filter combined with the sound of her wailing were very effective. Jump scares pretty good too!
All the stories of La Llorona are sad, I felt bad for her "tortured by regret". I enjoyed it!
18:50 you can see her rise up out of the river and fall back into it
The looping deaths to figure out the various proper endings were cool, and it's a good myth/legend to base a game on.
It's a pretty good-but-short game! The story is also short, but has alot of understanding just enough to know it all.
Btw, Manly: the note next to the dead farmer? I think it's a riddle of how to easily avoid the Weeping Woman. The note in the farmer's house is also a clue to avoid her as well. Simply put: just...SWING YER GOSH-DARN HEAD.
Yes that ending is in the video
@@ManlyBadassHero I know! But I just can't help it when you're first having trouble of getting away from the Weeping Woman. Usually, the main ending goes first for you, but I guess any endings a first now. Then again, all endings are shown, and that's fine with me!

Yes its definetly la llorona, BUT, another interesting detail, That moment when you can answer "further away" reminds me of that japanese webcomic with the twisted woman that asks you where is her baby, and when the girl answers just that you get a screamer scene were the woman sees through your lie and comes running full speed at you.
It may not be a reference, but its a nice coincidence
