    Your instructional videos on stream deck and other utilities and equipment are excellent. Your presentation style and the information you impart is very easy to listen to. Following along as you execute the various actions required to instruct us in the use of whatever software or hardware is the subject of the video, is very easy thanks to your natural and laid-back style. Thank you very much for taking the time to help us all out. I’m quite sure that once I get my stream deck up and running, your instructional videos will save me a great deal of time and make my working day more efficient, thanks again.

      @@TakeOneTech Oh no kidding? I am in Khon Kaen. I love Nong Khai and my wife's favorite Vietnamese restaurant on the Mekong is there. I went on a 3-month trip, mostly Udon Thani and never went home. That was a bit over 4-years ago. 16, wow! I'd love to take you to dinner next time I'm up there.

    Great video!
    An idea to get rid of the Keyboard Maestro middle man (tested on Windows) :
    Use the BarRdaider plugin "Super Macro" to trigger TextExpander snippets.
    This will indeed type out the triggers allowing TextExpander to sense them.
    Example of macro code to trigger a snippet:
    {{VARSET:Trigger:TextExpanderTrigger}}
    {{OUTPUT:Trigger}}
    where the text "TextExpanderTrigger" is whatever trigger you choose from TextExpander.

      Hi @GeirWaaler, I tried what you suggested on my work PC and I still can’t get the TextExpander trigger to expand. It just types out the TextExpander trigger and no expansion. But if I type it manually it works. Any idea on what I might be doing wrong?

    Great video, I'm starting with keyboard maestro and this video gave me some ideas. Is there a way to reorder windows in the screen with keyboard maestro and stream deck? I have searched alot, but unfortunally all tools i've found are for windows, for mac i havent found an easy way to reorder wondows in a correct way using stream deck yet. I thing you can show how to do that

    Thanks Alec. I"m a bit concerned I may have gone into a wormhole which is TE/KM/SD! It is very seductive and I have to resist the temptation to spend hours on this rather than doing other work!! I must allocate some time to set it up as it looks fabulous. I love the KM Link in streamdeck. Be interested to see how you identify all the different ones on your SD so you keep track of them all. Thanks again.

    • @TakeOneTech
      @TakeOneTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be a bit of wormhole!!!
      I have a running list of automations I want to add (I keep it in my task manager but equally could be a notebook) - ideas that arise through my day to day as I notice repetitive tasks. Then when I have a bit of spare time I just create a few from the list. Other times, if I know it will be quick, I just create the automation at the time it occurs to me.
      It can be daunting thinking you have to plan out an entire system from scratch… but if you just put in the foundations and the means to build upon them, it becomes more manageable. That way you have time to build the muscle memory for all of the shortcuts and actions.
      With my StreamDeck, I always create my own custom icons… I have lots of fancy graphics programs, and yet I still find it much easier to create StreamDeck icons in Keynote!!

    Great Video! Thumbs up! Have you seen issues with Keyboard Maestro macros using the frontmost window for resizing and moving to a special position? The macro is working from KM but when adding it to Streamdeck this maco is not working. Other work fine and I do think this is because of this macro use the frontmost window which might not work from Streamdeck. Have you hit this kind of issue as well?

    Hello. I try to ask you something ... only on telegram the "text" function gives me this problem. or rather it duplicates the message several times .. or rather it is not just a duplication because it fragments it a bit at random I would say and in any case n messages come out ... do you know what it can be? thank you
    sorry for my english

  • @JaysonAng
    @JaysonAng 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Instead of going thru KM route; you could try invoking TE's Inline Search shortcut by using StreamDeck's Text; then use Stream Deck Text to paste the text in the Inline Search; TE will also provide a list of snippets to choose from

    I have a long macro that that encompasses a series of key strokes to work through menus. If I break it down into four macros, the complete macro works fine. but all together, it doesn't. Is there a "pause for a fraction of a second" command that can let the software catch up to the commands that are being thrown at it?

    • @dalerosema8494
      @dalerosema8494 ปีที่แล้ว

      I created a multi action in stream deck to run the 4 segments of the macro and that works, but the complete macro does not.

    So how do we do this in a Windows environment??

    • @TakeOneTech
      @TakeOneTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph, I'm not sure how you would do any of this on the PC... On my channel I make Mac-centric tutorials and reviews and both Text Expander and Keyboard Maestro are Mac-only applications. Not sure of any PC equivalents for these apps. Sorry I couldn't help with this question.

    • @GeirWaalerNO
      @GeirWaalerNO ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph,
      In a Windows environment, the TextExpander alternative "Activewords" (activewords.com) will work well with Stream Deck, triggering directly from SD without the need for a middleman like Keyboard Maestro.
      Having used Activewords for years, I tried transitioning to TextExpander, but the inability to swiftly trigger expansion snippets via SD made me revert.
      You could, though, trigger a TextExpander snippet in Stream Deck using a string of hotkeys spelling out the trigger, but that route is cumbersome to set up and slow to trigger as well.

    • @GeirWaalerNO
      @GeirWaalerNO ปีที่แล้ว

      An update, Joseph:
      Use the BarRdaider plugin "Super Macro" to trigger TextExpander snippets.
      This will indeed type out the triggers allowing TextExpander to sense them.
      Example of macro code to trigger a snippet:
      {{VARSET:Trigger:TextExpanderTrigger}}
      {{OUTPUT:Trigger}}
      where the text "TextExpanderTrigger" is whatever trigger you choose from TextExpander.

    I'm using stream deck and KM many years. Text Expander seems to me useless. I'm also using mouse with 12 buttons.

    • @TakeOneTech
      @TakeOneTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re right, in that KM can basically do all that Text Expander can do, so from that perspective, it is redundant! However, I do find the process of creating snippets in Text Expander is a lot quicker. It also reduces some of the ‘bulk’ from my KM macro library.
      What mouse are you using, by the way? That sounds useful!

    • @DevOpsCave
      @DevOpsCave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My hotkeys:
      1 - move the active window to the left
      2 - minimize the active window
      3 - move the active window to the right
      4 - open a project in vscode (I have a list of projects)
      5 - show all opened windows
      6 - open a project in iterm (I have a list of projects)
      7 - open a project in github (I have a list of projects)
      8 - macros to insert console.log (I'm a javascript developer)
      9 - move the active window to the second monitor
      10 - open the current directory in vscode (it opens iterm and paste `code .`)
      11 - open a project in finder (I have a list of projects)
      12 - text snippets (text that I use often)

    • @DevOpsCave
      @DevOpsCave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      a list - means that I assign many commands on the same shortcut. KM in this case shows you a list and you can choose whatever command you want to execute
