- I drive BMW’s super clever electric SUV the iX40 to see how it measures up against its £70,000 price tag. As a competitor to the Jaguar iPace, Audi E-tron, Mercedes EQS and much cheaper Tesla Model Y, what do I think?

The iX can't be a comparison to the model Y, which seems like it was built in the " Walmart car factory". This thing is way too smooth and beautiful.

There is a bonnet latch (2 actually), but not much to see there. It's useful to clear leaves from the A/C intake.
As a former Model Y owner and a new BMW iX owner, there is no comparison. The BMW is superior in range (xDrive50) ride quality, build quality and overall experience. This is more akin to a Model X should you wish to compare it to a Tesla, however I find the interior and driving experience of the Model X to lack in terms of luxury at that price point.

It might be half a ton heavier but it's infinitely safer as well, lower center of gravity from the battery means less chance of rollovers (25% of fatalities) no engine up front to end up in your lap (frontal fatalities 40%) and even side crashes are lessened with the battery reinforcing side structure. If you're buying this car you're probably well off enough to care about living longer so you should account for that in any review. Oh and it's Vegemite mate. ;)

Well Quentin, Physik tells you in school energy doesn’t get lost. In composting engines it turns in heat and smoke which make the combusting motor with under 30% the weakest . In an EV the energy needed to move the car is not lost, it is recaptured and fed in the batterie which make EV with over 90% efficiency the most effective one . Energy doest get lost ….

I think you are missing the mark on range . All reviews state the range is very impressive . Did you take this on a long trip and test the range ?
