You were correct, she was singing Maya at the end. The guitarist sitting down to her left was her husband. Such a beautiful soul, so sad she passed so young. Loved your lovely heartfelt reaction. Peace and love to you both.✌🤗
Her daughter is the very beautiful Maya Rudolph, the AMAZING AND LONG TIME COMEDIAN ON THE TELEVISION SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!! ❤😂🙌🏾👍🏾Both very beautiful Israelites women. At least Minnie Riperton was an Israelite.
Minnie Riperton was one of the greatest singers of all time, lost to the world far too soon. Her technique was so amazing that singing seemed effortless, especially how easily she sang her whistle register. Notice that this was a live performance. She had no need for autotune or multiple takes. She was only 31 when she passed away from cancer... :(
This song was new when my wife and I had only been married for one year and now have been married almost 50 years. I worked nights, and the local radio station would play the song at the same time on my way home, and I would sit in the driveway and listen to her beautiful voice. R.I. P. to a beautiful soul. Minnie was singing to her daughter Maya.
This song makes me think of another beautiful love song by another amazing female singer from the 70s. “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” by Roberta Flack. It’s one of the greatest love songs of all time.
Yes, She's was singing the name of her daughter Maya. She was (I believe) 2 years old at the time that the song came out and was performed LIVE at The Midnight Special. The love of a mother for her child give us the opportunity to hear Minnie singing this. There are out there lots of singers that can achieve the Whistle Register (the actual name of the note) but NO ONE can do it the way she did and probably will never be. She had an incredible gift in her voice (and she knew it) but unfortunately we lost her to soon because breast cancer at the young age of 34.
So many of today's singers cover songs from my generation music - the '50s - '70s because it was just plain good. I saw her live with Rotary Connection, her band, back in about 1970 and she was just spectacular.
I believe this was from a TV show back in the 70's called The Midnight Special. It captured so many artists from the time and it was all live. We are blessed to have this record of these great performances by these great artists, some who died way to young.
Beautiful! Yes, how gorgeous was she with her pretty flowers in her hair, and her voice so ethereal. Loved this, love you two, and now I just love everything (for a while anyway 😊). Thank you for making me feel good, as always. Give Arnold a pat from me and my doggo. ❤
Minnie is singing this most beautiful love song to her husband, and she sang Maya at the very end because Maya is the flowering of their love for each other.
I don't see it mentioned specifically, but the Maya she sings about at the end is her daughter Maya Rudolph who became a fixture on Saturday Night Live.
Maya Rudolph is Minnie's daughter. Maya is a sucessful actress. Minnie and her husband Richard Rudolph wrote that song about their daughter Maya. The song was originally conceived as an uptempo song. Stevie Wonder who produced this recording, had them rearrange the song as we know it today.
I remember when this song came out in 1975. Had never heard anyone sing so high before. I know she has an incredible range, I think it is 4 octave & uses what they call the whistle register which is considered the highest register of the voice.
Minnie's gifts seemed to extend also to her daughter, Maya Rudolph, who funneled the love into comedy, where she is one the brightest lights shining. Minnie's voice, lyrics, and presence left me in a puddle. A lark ascending, and she's gone. RIP.
In the studio recording, the song fades out as she acknowledges her daughter Maya, so it's less noticeable but she's clearly just doing something nice for her then-toddler. The song mentions making love, so it's obviously not to Maya. Another example of a similar tribute that springs to mind is Marvin Gaye's "I Want You", in which he mentions his children's names during the outro. Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" on the other hand is ABOUT the daughter he mentions by name, Ayesha, and even features audio of her baby talk.
Black people soul is so beautiful. Please stand up for black people and don't leave people disrespect us NEVER.
Rip Minnie Riperton. She had a Beautiful voice and her high notes were effortless.
You were correct, she was singing Maya at the end. The guitarist sitting down to her left was her husband. Such a beautiful soul, so sad she passed so young. Loved your lovely heartfelt reaction. Peace and love to you both.✌🤗
Maya is her daughter's name and she put that in the song for her.
True for sure
Her daughter is the very beautiful Maya Rudolph, the AMAZING AND LONG TIME COMEDIAN ON THE TELEVISION SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!! ❤😂🙌🏾👍🏾Both very beautiful Israelites women. At least Minnie Riperton was an Israelite.
Her voice was Angelic.
I was 21 when this song came out; I'll be 70 this year and it still makes me cry. 😎😎😎😎
Her voice was amazing and this lullaby song was dedicated to her daughter Maya Rudolph. It is an unforgettable song.

Yes, you are correct: she was singing daughter Maya's name at the end. You are also correct that it was written as a love song.

Was a freshman in college when this came out. Such a beautiful song. Thanks for listening to it.
This song makes me think of another beautiful love song by another amazing female singer from the 70s.
“The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” by Roberta Flack. It’s one of the greatest love songs of all time.
With apologies to Ms. Flack (who's great), but she doesn't hold a candle to the great Riperton.
i think this song was written specifically for her daughter at a very young age !
This was huge on the radio when it came out. So wonderful! Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Gorgeous #1 record! What a voice she had!! Beautiful!!!❤❤❤
Just seeing you two feel the love in hearing Minnie and the love you two express to one another makes my heart smile.❤❤ #keepLoveAlive

The Angel of Soul ❤
The Maya in the song is her daughter actress Maya Rudolph.

Maybe the greatest love song ever ❤

This song came out when my wife, and I were newlyweds…need I say more! ❤️😏
She dedicated this song to her daughter Maya

One of the sweetest songs🌺😊
It was a love song and she paid joy to her daughter in the end. Remember she was dying of cancer then.
Minnie is singing this most beautiful love song to her husband, and she sang Maya at the very end because Maya is the flowering of their love for each other.
She was acknowledging her baby at the end, but the song was about her husband.
My oh, my oh, my oh, My Oh, my oh. Ending with flawless falsetto. When you know you are facing death. Nothing to lose.😇. You can go out on a limb.😁👍.
The beautiful Minnie Riperton, yes her daughter is Maya Randolph from Saturday Night Live
Minnie was such a great talent. Yes you can hear her saying Maya at then end to her daughter. She died way to young with cancer. Love you Minnie.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
It was originally a lullaby for her daughter, Maya. The producer asked tgem to adjust it.
I don't see it mentioned specifically, but the Maya she sings about at the end is her daughter Maya Rudolph who became a fixture on Saturday Night Live.
If someone didn't already mention it her voice is very rare where she can actually sing in the whistle register
Her whistle register is one of the best (along with Deniece Williams and early years Mariah Carey).
Omg. I’ve heard this song hundreds of times and I never caught her singing Mya 🎶 Mya 🎶 Mya 🎶. Ty u catching this 🥰🥰🥰
Maya Rudolph is her famous daughter from Sat. Night Live tv show and Bridesmaids movie and many others.
She was my generations Mother Nature of Octaves.
From what I remember is she just added the Maya to the song. but it is definitely an adult love song.
I remember when this song came out in 1975. Had never heard anyone sing so high before. I know she has an incredible range, I think it is 4 octave & uses what they call the whistle register which is considered the highest register of the voice.

IN HIS BEGINNINGS SHE WAS AN OPERA SINGER AND DIED VERY YOUNG, AT 31 YEARS OLD. HER VOCAL RANGE WAS 5 Y 1/2 OCTAVES.
The man playing guitar is her husband and Mya Rudolph's father, Richard Rudolph
When she passed her husband said, he returned home locked himself in his room and just played her music
5 octave
🕊❤
5 Octave…. Incredible

Like a bird :)
Now for the shock of a lifetime check out Japanese band Electric Eel Shock's version....Make sure to pick the official video ;)
Not my favorite song but you two are on my favorites list. :-)
Maya is her daughter.
Teena Marie" I'm going to have my cake and eat it too."
It's still the same lady, just a different recording. Still beautiful, but I prefer the other video to it. 🎼
YOU HAVE TO REACT TO THIS SONG BY GABRIEL HENRIQUE.
With very little effort
The Maya closing was a closing culmination build up of her love for her husband & what came out of that love.....created Maya & she closes love.
