The verse about his mom and dad always got me but when my father passed in 2020 and my mother died 7 weeks later, I can hardly listen to this anymore, beautiful as it is 🎶🎵💚
Gilbert once said: that the song is not about him. He merely put himself in the position of a person who felt this way. (It’s made up.)Now this is genius song writing. Bravo!!! Gilbert. One of my favorites. Thank you for your reaction on this one. 🔥🔥🔥✌️
We put the word "naturally" before or after describing something negative to sarcastically indicate our bad luck or these bad circumstances are the _natural_ state of things. Great classic song.
Naturally in this context means of course, it's something to be expected as in, "Naturally it rained as soon as I washed my car. I never have any luck.". In the song, he's expressing a feeling that he's alone and always will be.
Oh, i find you two so endearing. You can take it so personally. So sweet. I also find it so beautiful to see how you treat each other. An example for others. THANK YOU for all your kindness and beautiful and honest reactions. Happy Holidays!!!!!
I echo these sentiments entirely! I love this song for its sad sweetness! Gilbert is a wonderful musician who has come back on line to share music with us again. Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction! 👍👏🎉❤❤
Howdy, Folks: We baby boomers have heard of Gilbert O'Sullivan. He had a few good hits songs but this one was the #1 song for 1972 on WABC New York, NY's radio station's top 100 of the year. Thank you for doing it. 'Naturally' means that, for him, things always go wrong and so it is no surprise that it has turned out that way.

Since I was a child I've loved this song. It has always brought tears to my eyes with its rawness and sincerity. Being that we're all human I think songs like this tend to force us to reflect on our own lives and the loves and losses we've encountered throughout them. I always enjoy your reactions. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us.
Such a beautiful and sad song that has always made me cry since the day it came out. 💔 Andre, I don't know how you made it through that whole song without a tear, because I know you felt it.
This was my teenage breakup song. I was stuck at work, alone on the night shift, trying not to cry while this was playing on the radio. I was miserable, but I can laugh about it now. On the "naturally" part, the guy is just really beaten down. Sometimes when you're up against one thing after another, you feel like that's just how life rolls for me.
Beautiful song which we can all relate to in one way or another, he's basically saying that if it wasn't for bad luck in his life, then he wouldn't have any luck. Definitely penned by a master🍀👍
I think this song caught you completely by surprise with it's upbeat start. You will never listen to it again without crying now you know the content. Great choice guys.
I can see how profound the effect this song has moved your soul. This song resonated with many people when it was released. It stayed on the charts for a year. But O'Sullivan had more music to offer. Try these songs. OUT OF THE QUESTION, GET DOWN, and Ooo BABY are different and the last two you can dance to. It is the genius of the writer to involve the audience. Gilbert did his job quite well here. Keep going
Childhood memories! He was one of my fathers favourites. This was one of the songs which "clung to me" along with "Nothing Rhymed; both beautiful melodies. My fathers music preference influenced mine: a combination of classical and jazz/blues brought me at first to some (melodic) hard rock and later symphonic rock.
The best songs make us think; and sometimes they make us cry. The question is: "What do we do afterward? Do we change in some way? Do we finally take time to call the special people in our lives?" BTW... I always LOVE your reactions because you are kind/smart/honest/real. :)
I went to see Gilbert when he visited my home town of Sheffield UK - I loved his music so much, and him to be honest! My first crush! An evening I'll never forget
at 63 years old i have lost so many people in my life, i have to wonder why am i still here...alone. it's one of the great mysteries of life, naturally.
I remember when "Alone Again (Naturally)" was a big hit. "Gilbert" O'Sullivan is an Irish singer-songwriter who had some great songs in the 1970's such as "Clair", "Get Down", "Nothing Rhymed", "We Will" etc.
I was in junior high when this hit the radio in complete form. The bubblegum melody brought me in, but the lyrics hid a dark story which crushed me. Young people are impressionable and I imagined his story, was mine. I was doomed at 11 years old. I was alone and it was my lot in life, naturally. His hit ruined many a child's optimism.
This is a very sad song. But also a well crafted song with a great arrangement and very very thought provoking lyrics. A classic song in its own right. I love all your reaction videos guys. You really are a great team. Thanks.
Irish writers / musicians can make you smile, tap your toes, and weep… sometimes all at the same time. My personal takeaway: take as much joy as possible for the simple, beautiful moments in life.
To say "naturally" simply means 'of course' meaning the situation is typical and not unexpected. I've always been alone so my fiancee leaving me at the alter wasn't too much of a surprise, naturally.
Don't make me cry, 😢 because this song always does, this one and Eric Cartman "All by Myself" 😢 sometimes you need to cry to feel alive😢. Peace 😊✌️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 🕺🎄💃 Great Reaction👍Happy Holiday's ❄️☃️❄️ try to keep smiling 😃
I am disarmed by your honesty and transparency in letting this song impact you both. Life is certainly a series of joyful peaks and dark valleys interspersed with sometimes long plains of monotony. What strikes me most about the lyrics to this song is the charge that because our joy in this life is inevitably interrupted by hardship and tragedy, somehow God is culpable for allowing us to experience sorrow and loss. The fact is, this is a sometimes beautiful, but also a broken world where we will know the full gamut of emotions, naturally.
From California in the USA -- Merry Christmas, Joy, & Love to you both! Emmanuel . . . the Lord With Us! (St. Luke 2 & 1st Corinthians 13) Parents, brothers, sisters, and family pass . . . comes to all and every. Still, Joy!
The words were all wrong. How surreal. They may be hearing a different song than the rest of us, here at festivus. Back to song... Balls. Last I heard this I had parents. Now I don't. Balls.
Songs about loneliness, rejection and general sadness can be cathartic for many. It gives the listener the opportunity to see that they are not alone, everybody experiences life’s other side. It’s not all fun and games.
An artist does his job if he can relay certain emotions. Gilbert decided to point out that sometimes we all feel all alone, its a part of life, just as joy is, love is, so is sadness. We have all felt these different emotions, it doesn't try to say its OK, its just life.
So much i could share with you...but "what do we do"? We carry on and be the best we can possibly be, take every moment and don't look back, live while you have life to live and love while you have love to give..
When we are born, we must feel we are alone. Then when we are dying, we come to a point when we do feel we are alone due to the fact we start losing our senses of smell, hearing, sight, feeling then our breath. Naturally.
Andrei (the viking) and Dominica, Happy Holidays to you both. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. "Naturally" , in this context means "as usual". He's trying to say that he always has bad luck and he always ends up alone. Yes, a pretty song with such sad lyrics. I suggest you never listen to "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. 😂
He's using the word naturally to mean "of course". "I suppose you'll be going to Spain again next year?" "Naturally" (By the way, well done for switching off the captions, they were hilariously bad)

Nice production even though this is a wrist slasher. Not much of a drinking song or a kareoke favorite. Still it is a real song right up there with Operater by Jim Croce. There is a time and place for melancholy songs to stir us...
The verse about his mom and dad always got me but when my father passed in 2020 and my mother died 7 weeks later, I can hardly listen to this anymore, beautiful as it is 🎶🎵💚

This song brought me to tears when it first came out and still does.
This has been one of my favorite songs since it was released. Just can't help but love it.
No 1 record for Gilbert

Wish you both a Merry Christmas ❤ You are both very beautiful Souls.

Merry Christmas tou beautiful couple!❤
Such a beautiful and sad song that has always made me cry since the day it came out. 💔 Andre, I don't know how you made it through that whole song without a tear, because I know you felt it.
I think musical artists like this are courageous for putting themselves out there naked for everyone to see and judge.
It used to be okay to have really sad songs on the radio. We were lucky to celebrate the full spectrum of human emotions.
Thank you so much for all the hard work making these videos. It's really appreciated and I wish you all the very best for the holiday season. 😁
He has a song called "Clair" which is just as happy as this one is sad. He had a number of hits in the early seventies in the UK.
In an Irish heart, there is always a pin of sadness !!! Great people my friends !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
this is the magic of music when its done right
Beautiful song which we can all relate to in one way or another, he's basically saying that if it wasn't for bad luck in his life, then he wouldn't have any luck.
Definitely penned by a master🍀👍
This song is genius. The juxtaposition is epic.
I think this song caught you completely by surprise with it's upbeat start. You will never listen to it again without crying now you know the content. Great choice guys.
Oh Balls! Brilliant, and I use it all the time. 😂
I knew you'd tear up at the end, .....just like me , those killer lyrics at the end just go straight to your heart.
I can see how profound the effect this song has moved your soul. This song resonated with many people when it was released. It stayed on the charts for a year.

This came out when I was a teenager. I’d cheerfully sing along, as to any song. Now? Woah, that’s emotional stuff 😮!
Huge # 1 record. ❤❤ Gilbert has several Top Ten hits in the 70s ❤❤
I went to see Gilbert when he visited my home town of Sheffield UK - I loved his music so much, and him to be honest! My first crush! An evening I'll never forget
Love those who are with you now. We will all be alone again; it's what nature does.

This song gets me every time

When this first came out I think a lot of people thought it was autobiographical. It's however just a song. 😊
Irish writers / musicians can make you smile, tap your toes, and weep… sometimes all at the same time.
My personal takeaway: take as much joy as possible for the simple, beautiful moments in life.
The guy I was dating in 1972 loved this song. My favorite Gilbert O'Sullivan song is "Claire."
This is such a good song. I've always loved it since I was little boy.
One thing people always misunderstood about Gilbert's songs, is that they're not about him! His mother lived until the 2010s.
Oh balls! lol - sorry it took me by surprise it made me spit my tea out. :)
To say "naturally" simply means 'of course' meaning the situation is typical and not unexpected. I've always been alone so my fiancee leaving me at the alter wasn't too much of a surprise, naturally.

Good music like this is made to help you through tough times, and to not feel alone in your feelings 😢
Oh boy... one of the saddest lyrics - and jaunty, fun tune. By the way - this song is PURE FICTION.
That man was brillant in pop history. Irish, communist, and a really serious folksinger and awesome composer!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If you need to pick yourself up after that one you should next react to his song Clair.

Hope theyre crying like me😢😢😢😢
Goodbyes in the course of our lives, are part of the human experience. We can't get around it.

He's Irish, and a little bit brilliant. Back then he had a few hits. He's still performing, last I heard!
Saddest happy song ever

I love y'all's accent. Where y'all from?
Thxs!
A big hit for O'Sullivan. I always thought it interesting that a song about committing suicide would be that popular.
Gilbert's a great songwriter, if your looking for a more upbeat song by him Matrimony a good place to start

My favorite part of this music video was the guitar solo played by a leprechaun. I wonder if the song was about Karma.
I'm glad you removed the lyrics, they were way off...awesome song!!
The lyrics on the screen are way off. Someone did not type the lyrics in, it must have been generated by voice recognition.
This could be one of the saddest songs ever written.
Nothing Rhymed is a Great track
Naturally, is being used sarcastically!
Nice production even though this is a wrist slasher. Not much of a drinking song or a kareoke favorite. Still it is a real song right up there with Operater by Jim Croce. There is a time and place for melancholy songs to stir us...
I think he means he himself is alone again naturally. Like of coarse I'm alone again. That's my life. I lose my parents, I lose my fiance.
Back when we had songs with melodies. What happened?
That's what a woman can do for you...
How come Arnold is never in your videos anymore ? Is he ok?
There’s the truth there. We can not change it. Believe in God is accepting the truth. Not to believe this world is heaven.
In the end, we all die alone:
