It is also special for them to sing it together because for them it is true. When Eddie was at the height of his fame Gerald was just his son in his shadow. By the time Gerald reached the top of his fame Eddie was in his shadow because for Gerald's generation he was just Gerald's dad.
I write this with my “66 year-old pen” in my hand and tears in my eyes. It’s been almost 40 years since my dear father passed and left me stunned as a 25 y/o, embarking upon my medical journey. I am now retired after a wonderful career. I so wish that I could walk into a den, see my father proudly sitting in his easy chair, and tell him that “I would be nothing without you.” Yes, I’d like that.
Eddie LeVert was the lead singer for a group called the O’Jays back in the late 60’s thru the 80’s and his son Gerald LeVert was the lead singer for the group LeVert during the 80’s and 90’s, their biggest hit was Casanova. The O’Jays had too many hits to list here. I loved them both. Fantastic singers and performers. Gerald died very young and it was tragic. Thanks for highlighting this beautiful performance; I had never seen it. ❤🙏🏽
Eddie Levert lost his daughter 😢 She was 22 y/o. That was a loss of a third child. May God give 🙏 him strength. Two sons and a daughter that he had to say goodbye to...
Unfortunately Gerald (the son) passed away in 2007. At the BET Awards the year they did an amazing tribute to him where Eddie (the father), Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams and Patti LaBelle sang this song. You really need to watch that performance it's so soul shaking. I love their rendition of this song. I can never get through it without crying, but the 2007 BET Awards Tribute is EVERYTHING. You can see Eddie's grief but he does an amazing job singing in honor of his son. Also Gerald was known as The Teddy Bear of soul and R&B. You have to watch some of his performances as well. The dad, Eddie is a member of The O'Jays which is an R&B group from the 70s and Gerald and his brothers would go on in the 80s and create their own group called LeVert and then Gerald would go solo into the 90s and early 2000s gaining even more success. And at the time of his death, he was releasing another album that went number one after his death and Patti LaBelle announced it at the BET Awards Tribute to him before they began singing in honor of him.
♥️Beautiful ♥️ (((big hugs))) for you both Andre & Dominika 😢 It was difficult for me too, possibly for the same reason 😢Andre no apologies necessary unless you need to. God bless xx
I lost twin sons also. The hardest thing in the world is for your babies to pass 😪 😔 before you. To have to say goodbye to multiple children is devastating 💔
Beautiful song. Released by 5 or 6 popular artists throughout 1982, 1983 but was never a hit until Bette added it to the soundtrack of the movie "Beaches" in 1988. Her version hit #1 in the US in 1989. It has become a favorite selection for weddings and funerals. In 1990 it won Grammy awards for Best record and best song of the year. Then Bette's version was certified Platinum (1 million sold) in 1991.
i like little anthony's version dedicated that song to the firemen and police on the 9-11 tragedy i don't think you've reacted to the group little anthony and the imperials lot's of hits and great songs !
Actually, those two words don’t sound the same when spoken by native English speakers. 😘. Your accent makes them sound the same. One is Bee-ches (beaches) and the other is bit-ches.
May we all have the courage to be so open with our heart and feelings like Eddie and Gerald and like Andrei and Dominika!!! 💖💖💖
Yes, with the passing of the sons, this song takes on even more meaning................................
Loved your reaction, brother. When I saw that first tear....

They are singing a Bette Midler song, their father was part of famous singing group. They also wrote a number of hit songs for others
It’s cool guys , we lost Gerald Lavert in 2009 so Eddie lost his son.. thank you so much!!

This cover wasn't bad, but you must listen to the definitive version by Bette Midler-absolutely stunning.
Country singer Gary Morris had a big hit with this song 4 or 5 years before Bette did it. Much better
