    This is not a Zero sum game. There's A LOT of people in South America, Thailand and many other countries that can technically afford a $10K car, but when they factor in Gas they realize that they can't afford it. Since it costs roughly 1/3rd to operate vs ICE, BYD is making it possible for a whole new class of people to be able to buy a car.

    • @douglaswatt1582
      @douglaswatt1582 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think you missed the point. Zero sum just means that if BYD or someone else like Tesla takes what would have been a legacy auto sale, it is still a loss for legacy auto. Same dynamics will apply in those new markets like SA too. Both BYD and Tesla have shown that they will cut profits to drive sales and keep or expand market share, which, if continued, will bankrupt legacy auto because they just can't follow down that path, at scale anyway.

In the US air conditioning places quite a strain on aging infrastructure. There’s also the issue of A.I., projected to eat 25% of all electric power in the US by the year 2030. Nuclear is the only real answer and it is desperately needed.

    The cost takeout potential for ICE cars has already been exhausted. The cost takeout for EVs is just starting and they battery pack alone has huge potential even if you don't reduce cost on anything else. Then EVs are easier to build and more of the process can be automated. As a function of time ICE cars will simply be too expensive to make. It won't be a demand or regulation issue just pure cost that causes automakers to stop making them. Parts makers have better foresight than automakers and they already know this and have plans to exit the market.

    It's funny how when Tesla builds Gigafactory around the world, it's not scary, but when BYD does it and it's just getting started, somehow that's scary. I always thought, BYD is in a different price bracket compared to Tesla. A little bit like Apple vs Xiaomi kind of thing. The growing EV market can sustain several EV makers based on their merit, not just price. Byd has decided to make its market a price issue and that's fine. A healthy market needs to see different ideas slug it out. But maybe you can explain why BYD suddenly feels so confident despite its poor showing in Europe and elsewhere. It's not a runaway success everywhere, right ? Your sudden ominous tone is curious despite your previous warnings about BYD's poor showings.

In fact, the whole planet has been hot for months, according to many different data sets. “There’s no ambiguity about the data,” said Gavin Schmidt, a climatologist and the director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Last month, the average global sea surface temperature reached a new monthly high of 21.07 degrees Celsius, or 69.93 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, a research institution funded by the European Union. “March 2024 continues the sequence of climate records toppling for both air temperature and ocean surface temperatures,” Samantha Burgess, deputy director of Copernicus, said in a statement this week.
