I'm having my houses roof picked up and lifted so I can raise its height and make the attic into liveable space this summer! Its a good idea. They just needed to have a structural engineer actually work it out for them before telling you to lift it haha.
Hopefully you're roof was properly constructed and not rotted and only one layer of shingles. Good luck hopefully from the foundation up an engineering firm calculated max possible load and not just what you told them it was going to be used for
@@1STGeneral Yeah its all squared away. We are bracing the roof structure to ensure everything remains square (triangle?). No rot or anything, the roof was just done by the previous owners which is why we went this route rather than ripping everything off. Plus wood is so damn expensive here now thanks to the Derecho. Adding an additional support column in the basement and a few beams to span the floor joists without them sagging. The foundation was overenginered thanks to the developers using a cookie cutter design for both the single and double story homes in the area so its already good to bear the load.
What are you feeding that Cody, jumping beans or something? Just so full of energy.it was also good to see Levi out and about and attempting to show Cody how to behave in public. Really good to see all out on the job site.

You rant the straps the wrong way. They should have been lifting the rafters, not the sheathing. I knew there was no way they rook was going to hold with that many layers. Four people with roofing forks and crowbars could have stripped that all down and ripped it apart and put it all in a large dumpster. Some people might have wanted those old wide boards too as I did not see much in the way of rot in those shots from the inside.
My thought exactly. Of course it was going to collapse in a bunch the way they strapped it. Might not have been easy, but under the rafters would’ve been better. And.... it would help if the roof sections were actually cut completely free.
@@woodslisa4529 it would've been a lot of prep time and expense to make it work how they envisioned. maybe they could've supported the center of the roof then peeled off sections of each side. No matter what, it'd probably be about the same result--collapsing and then lifting the debris out. That or spending a lot of time on the prep to pull it off cleanly.
New tires would cost more than what he paid for that machine. He’s gonna get as much use as he can out of those tires before he buys new ones. I agree with you btw, I’d love to see new tires on them. But those fuckers cost a pretty penny.

4:49 That's a REALLY old roof. Maybe early 1800's? Definitely not sawmill lumber, that looks like it's all hand cut. If that roof had been disassembled by hand, all that vintage lumber could have been resold for like $30 per board foot. People buy it to use on flooring as it's impossible to get lumber like that nowadays. Look at that huge board at 12:04. Really missed out on a money making opportunity there, but granted, it would have taken a lot longer to disassemble.
everyone says this when they've never dealt with actual "barn wood" nobody wants to pay actual money for real rotten garbage, everyone wants this product called "imitation barn wood" just tore down a barn from 1900 and 90% of it went straight into the fire, there were plenty of sections of 1x boards, all 22" long as they'd all rotted out where they touched the rafters, not to mention the tens of thousands of rusty brad nails in them from the cedar shakes

The way this roof was built looks weak. No beam across the peak? Add in all the weight of 5 layers of shingles and this happens
Or, hold my beer
Well, it is gone now, so I guess it was successful if not elegant.
A spreader bar might have helped. Screwing on some purlins across the rafters and lifting off of them would have helped too.

@@TheSleepingonit Thank you , all is good as we only lost power for 5 hours . I am in the far northeast and this weather has a way of happening . Have a great day :-)
Here in NH too. That would have raised this more efficiently roof for sure!
@@oldtree218 It was a wild night for sure . I hope that you folks next door in NH are doing good today .
You call 45mph high winds?
You got Moe, Larry and Curly over here...
Im amazed you get anything done with cody under your feet.
Was not surprised the straps didn’t work. Glad I’m learning by watching Andrew!
It’s a beautiful house !! I’m just so glad that someone is willing to renovate this way, rather than just tear it down and start afresh, which would probably be cheaper and less hassle with building inspectors and code examinations.
There is a follow up video on this house that shows it all complete.
Lol
"Insanity. Doing the same things the same way and expecting a different outcome".. 😂
Just a few more times and you'll be done
Really just a few more times and you’ll be done.
I would have been done after shoveling the snow off the trailer. Time for a NAP!
I was surprised to see he has a snow shovel! LOL
@@SBow311 You would think he would have a snowblower attachment on the front of his truck to clear the trailer off . LOL
@@fjrdriver8924 I'm sure he's thought of it! He would probably strap 5 of those little Toro's on there if he could. LOL
What are you feeding that Cody, jumping beans or something? Just so full of energy.it was also good to see Levi out and about and attempting to show Cody how to behave in public. Really good to see all out on the job site.
That was a tough one there Andrew, but you got it.
Cody is like those supervisor that are more of a hinderance 😅😅😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
AKA...a supervisor. Lol
My construction boss used to say "everything takes longer in the winter"
like getting paid!
Job got done ✅ that’s the main thing, banging work son keep up the good work 🙏🏽
This house looks much better than it was before.
I think one of the the things I like about your vids is your can do, can fix ,can make attitude, I have watched enough now to comment a little and you are as we say down under, "as rough as guts and hard on the gear" it bodes well that you are also quite successful with your sometimes dubious methods however I can not help but feel somebody is gonna get hurt, you are generating and applying some serious energy in those machines, chains and slings etc you use, I sincerely hope your Workplace health and safety evolves and improves along with your other achievements, entertaining as always, Be Safe.
Pity its not an hour-long, but I'll take it. Keep up with the great content. You're one of the best TH-camrs out there. 💯
Wouldn’t have had any of these problems if they built it from 10” I beams and 3/16” plate steel.
You're not wrong, but who'd wanna live in that? Concrete and steel makes more sense as building material, but wood is homey and charming.
Roof just came apart for no apparent reason. LOL
There's often more information in a failure than in a success. It's pretty interesting to watch that and try to come up with a better approach.
failure is continuing to repeat same thing over and over expecting a better result ...that is this job 100%
Why did they think you could lift the roof off when it was still halfway attached to the house ? You are a very patient man !
That telehandler deserves some new tyres, would make it so much more effective and productive
Knowing how he hammers his equipment those tyres are probably a week old.
@@bobp6742 you do realize that telehandler was already heavily used before he bought it,those tyres had a year ago almost no tread on them
New tires would cost more than what he paid for that machine. He’s gonna get as much use as he can out of those tires before he buys new ones. I agree with you btw, I’d love to see new tires on them. But those fuckers cost a pretty penny.
@@davekessing2266
They'd been fine if he ever decides to race it.
They are filled solid, so they’ll never go flat, I don’t think having Tread on them would make that much of a difference.
Customer: "Can you help me with my roof?"
Most people:🤔
Andrew Camarata: "Sure. Give me an hour"😂
Customer 6 months later "why is all my brickwork cracked?"
"Where you planning on doing that or it just happened?"
"Its just happened."
Sums up the whole project nicely.
It’s like watching a Car wreck, just couldn’t look away. The funny part as the video started I’m thinking "No way" Lol. it’s like you knew this was gonna happen, but it’s always awesome to watch. Haha
I have an old farmhouse that may need something like this too. Thanks for posting.
Guess the ground's not frozen anymore. Man, that seemed like a pain! You still did a great job anyway.
That video made me feel very uncomfortable many times omg.
Btw I love how the brickwall in the top didn't make it until the end. So they actually build a new house on top of the basement.
6:04 I hope I'm not the only one who gets a sense of dread from seeing a staircase in the woods
Stairway to heaven 😬
There's one in my backyard
It's just part of an old foundation. Nothing more.
@Altitude The sight in the video looks like a very old house foundation, only the concrete left but that is an interesting fact I didn't know.
even though it didn't go as planned/hoped for I like that we got to see all the blunders, keep it genuine
That drift on truck with a loaded trailer was just pure awesome skills!!!
Really missed out on a money making opportunity there, but granted, it would have taken a lot longer to disassemble.
its all cracked and rotted out its junk burn it
This is 1940-1950. Might be a decade or so off, but it ain't that old. This is how it was done before engineered panels became mainstream.
Looking at the way it broke up, I'd say it was rotten and fit for nothing really. Otherwise, certainly, it should have been salvaged.
everyone says this when they've never dealt with actual "barn wood"
nobody wants to pay actual money for real rotten garbage, everyone wants this product called "imitation barn wood"
just tore down a barn from 1900 and 90% of it went straight into the fire, there were plenty of sections of 1x boards, all 22" long as they'd all rotted out where they touched the rafters, not to mention the tens of thousands of rusty brad nails in them from the cedar shakes
@@KJ-kw7gh yep, definitely not "early 1800's" not even close. It's balloon framing with a brick veneer. That ain't "early 1800's" construction.
