Oof. Good save, Andrew. Anytine you're taking down a tree close to a structure like that, wrap the trunk snugly with a log chain about 24" above the back cut. This keeps the trunk together and helps prevent it from "barber chairing" and hinging into the structure.

Hearing what a tree is doing when bringing it down is almost as important as doing it safely since it will let you know when it's going. It's almost talking to you and listening often lets you know when to move and leaving the saw behind at times is better when getting out of its way since it can get in the way of a quick exit. Going sideways on those forks and flipping the telehandler sideways (massive leverage at that length) seemed like a distinct possibilty!

Clicked on the video to see the telehandler. Got to also see the skid steer and dozer. Great video.

When you started pushing the telehandler with the skid steer I laughed pretty good. I was picturing 5 and 6 vehicles stacked up all pushing each other to push the tree

I don't know if was already mentioned in one of the 1200+ comments, but your video work/editing was fantastic! All the shots, angles, even drone! Wow. Like a commercial production IMO. I wish my drone had a lil mic in it just to playback the prop whir sounds! You have 2x more equipment then out industrial rental center! Dayum!

You shouldn't push the tree bitwin the forks, if the tree fell to the side it could flip over the machine. Nice vid. BDW

Andrew.. You have really learned how to tell a good story. The camera work on this one was insane! Between your GoPro and your drone and having to not knock over the shed and all the operating, you had to do. Then grabbing that skid steer to hold the back weight of the telehandler. That has to add so much work to what you already do. And your editing is top-notch. Great job.... oh, and that GoPro.... fell like an amateur.

The relief cut should be higher than the wedge cut.
That way both can cut into the tree as far as you want without worrying about the two meeting in the middle.

You are really generous in sharing your knowledge on how to fix stuff. I've sent a bunch of people to your channel for this reason. Homesteaders in Idaho (TH-cam Channel Red Poppy Ranch) just bought a Gehl... and I've never heard you talk about that heavy equipment company. Anyway, they've been plagued by a problem they can't seem to figure out. They are doing all the minor stuff it could be... but after running 20 minutes or so when it heats up the right side tracks freeze up. I'm hoping you could take a look at their videos where they are trying to troubleshoot the problem and give your advice. It's incredible that good people from NY can help a few in Idaho on this TH-cam thing.... I hope and humbly request you give it a shot.
