I'm seriously DYING right now, Emily. 🥰 One of my other 'hobbies' is collecting antique and vintage kimono, obi (and all of the various items that proper Kitsuke demands), and these videos where you combine my love of dolls and kimono are an absolute delight. Plus, I think we have fabric from the same company, but I don't believe I purchased this particular one, so guess who's now kicking herself? 😄 This video is another "keeper" for my collection, and will be referred back to frequently. You are an absolute marvel, Emily. Thank you so much for sharing.
@@DollAfterlife - Hello again, Ningyo Sensei. 🥰 I started collecting vintage kimono and obi back in 2000, when they could still be purchased affordably (I blame "Memoirs of a Geisha").😅Unfortunately, my collection got completely out of hand, as I have way too many hobbies, obsessions and collections, and vintage silk isn't easy to care for and maintain unless one is vigilant, and at this point in my life I'm looking to liquidate a large part of my collection. We should talk, my friend. 😉
@@chromeoiran951 I have to admit I'm a big fan of memoirs of geisha, despite all of the drama around it. And the visuals in this movie are so so beautiful. I first saw it when I was a little kid, and the only thing I remembered was Sayuri dancing that snow dance. And then I watched it again like 10 years later just because I wanted to see that dance one more time. Now it's one of my favorite movies 😄 (seriously I wanted to use that dance as inspiration for my future Yuki onna doll, but it will be our little secret🤫) If you like you can message me on Instagram as well😁
@@DollAfterlife - Emily, this literally made me LMAO. 😂How is it you just managed to read my mind?! When I first saw 'Memoirs' the movie, after reading the book so many times that I've lost count, and becoming a Flower and Willow culture/kitsuke purist, aka a BIG FAT SNOB if I'm being completely transparent, I admit to being disappointed by the movie, at least initially. But it grew on me eventually, especially since I have NO room whatsoever to criticize someone else's take on a culture that isn't my own, and I've watched it so many times since its release. But YES! It was Sayuri's rendition of Yuki onna, with her tall mitsu-ashi geta and soto-hachimonji walk that completely transfixed me. 🥰 PLEASE tell me you've also seen the movie Sakuran?!
I love that she's not just in her skeleton form or human form. There's both. And the kimono 👘 💖💖💖💖💖💖 Fun fact: In Sri Lanka, we make those kinds of lanterns every year on Vesak full moon day. There ara many complex shapes like lotus, stars and etc. Im only making the one that you made. But a simple version 😂.
I love how you take these classic tales and give them your own unique modern touch. That kimono is a work of art 😍 and the lanter looks so good especially when it's all lit up 😊
This has to be one of, if not the most exquisite outfits I've ever seen on such a tiny scale! I've loved reading about Japanese ghosts and demons since I was a child (the rokurokubi terrified me!), so I can't wait to see more of the series!
@Nerdy_Capybara I honestly would check my parents heads in the middle of the night to make sure they had a head lmao. I believe in you! Could always use some like fishing line so that it looks mostly invisible holding the neck and head?
This artwork is another masterpiece. While looking your video I’m so fascinated from all the detailed work you take in every little thing to complete this tragical figure . I’ve seen the first time this spezial rooting from the hair on her human mask. Incredible I’ve learned so much. You’ve such a great talent to make this kimono… and the lantern. I’m fully flashed from those details. She is absolute stunning. Thanks for sharing
This is one of the most beautiful dollmakeovers that I have ever seen! 😍The repainting of the doll, the beautiful fabric of the kimono, the kimono itself and last but not least the lantern, everything is just outstanding! Your work is amazing!❤
I love the white hair. Reminds me of my OC samurai male Yokai character I’m working on. He has white hair with a smidge of gray that is half-tied too. He’s an ushirogami yokai. I’m a cartoon and digital artist.
I love this doll and look forward to the next one in the series. As well as I've seen other creators use this method for rerooting and what they did was use a large sewing needle rather than a rerooting tool to insert the hair.
Turned out amazing as always!! For the next one, I suggest Noppera bo - it would be interesting to see how you could do a faceless doll, and you could also do the mask trick again for when she appears normal!
That doll is incredible! The pattern on that kimono is so beautiful and watching you stitch it and make it all come together was mesmerizing. The face over the skull was so cool to see and I'm glad the surgery was a success lol
She turned our gorgeous! All the details are beautifully and carefully made. Her outfit deserves a video of its own 😂 I am not Japanese to comment on its resemblance of real kimonos, but I see that it was made with love and attention and I really loved that you took extra effort to sew lining and hide seams. ❤ I was hoping till the end that you’ll put a real light source in her lantern, and you did! just a suggestion, you should probably cross the kimono the other way since she's dead. its typically done for japanese funerals on corpses. (they also do it for ghosts)
I have to admit this is a really good observation! But I think since she's hiding the fact she's a ghost, and she is not wearing a burial kimono, it's still ok to wear it this way. 🤔

How cool!!
Idk if you’ll ever read this, but an Aerith doll from FF7 would be awesome! Especially in her iconic red dress 🥰 thanks for posting!!
No worries, I read all of the comments! 😊 I checked out Aerith and she's really pretty, but unfortunately I'm an absolute noob when it goes about final fantasy. 👀
@@DollAfterlife oh no problem! Thanks for responding! You are crazy talented ❤️❤️

Thank you so much 🥰 there will definitely be much more cool stuff coming in this series ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
Her “face” mask looks like Demon slayer’s Daki as a human and it’s very pretty
I didn't think about that, but true! She really looks like Daki in her true form 😆
