I genuinely love the doll, and the fact she is based off a true story about two lovers. He loved her so much that even in death, he made her his queen. That is creepy, yet so lovely and sweet.
Woo! A tale from my country!! I was obssessed with Pedro and Inês' tale when I was little, I'm so happy to see people from other countries talking about and appreciating it ❤️ Portugal has a LOT of casually creepy stories and legends, so if you're into those, you'll have a lot of material to dig in. There's even a bit of this story, that says that nature itself was so outraged by the crime of Inês' murder, that the stones in the creek where she bled to death retained the red color, so the world could never forget the king's sins. These lovers tombs were built a little different, in front of one another, instead of side by side. So that when their souls ascend to heaven, they'll be the first thing each other sees. Or so the legend goes 😊
Aaaah it's so cool to see someone from Portugal here!!!! 😍 I did some research preparing for this project, but i didn't know the part about the stones becoming red. But i know about the tombs! It was also interesting to look at the carvings and learn about the symbolism sculptors put into their designs. I really wish to visit Portugal some day and see this place with my own eyes! 💫
@@DollAfterlife honestly, your research SHOWED, the level of detail you looked into, the amount of details, I'm just about deceased myself! As a culture, we talk a lot about how great and vast our history and artistic history is, but the majority of people don't actually show much interest beyond "huh, neat". So it's very heartwarming to see people not only look into it, but also dig into it and share it with others ❤️ The stones' legend was told to my class when we were little, and the teacher was actually very open about it being realistically impossible, but it showed the dedication and a people's memory, that centuries later someone still goes through the work of maintaining the stones red. It added to the tragedy that King Afonso IV was by all means a good and well-liked ruler, and THIS is what he reduced his legacy to. Also, fun fact: we don't remember Inês because of Pedro, as much as we remember Pedro because of Inês. Her life was altered by him, but people don't really care about his life after her coronation and execution of her killers.
I love historical stories like these. ❤️ Also, I’m glad that she got a long veil instead of hair. Not just for accuracy’s sake, but because the veil+skull remind me of a funeral shroud, which is a nice touch.
The resculpt of that head was amazing, that’s not easy! It looks cute but also does have that unsettling look to it! I love the attention to detail, even under the dress you have all that gorgeous blushing. The patience you have for that embroidery is amazing 😍 it looks so good. Amazing work as always!
I really love the fact that this doll is so elegant and simple. The small details you did in blushing, and that crown omg. it looks VERY well made 🥹🥹✨ this is such a joy to watch. Loved collabing with you! hopefully next time again 🥹🖤
Loved the doll and loved to get to know this incredible legend! I am a brazilian archaeologist living in Portugal and always heard my dad saying "agora inês é morta" ("now Inês is already dead") an expression meaning that now is to late to do anything about it. I was so excited to find that this story is the origin of the saying thanks to your video that got me searching more about it. Congrats on the great work!
I didn't know about this saying, it's so interesting to learn!!! I love languages and learning about other cultures, facts like these are treats for me 😍 thank you so much for sharing ❤❤❤
I remember this story years ago, so many versions, one I think was when she had been exhumed there had been signs someone had already invaded the tomb. and one even mentioned there was evidence her blonde hair had been shorn. (I doubt though) One version even mention the chosen ladies in waiting for Queen Ines cared for her like they had served her for years.. (this made me wonder if maybe it might have been easier for the court to kiss her hand because back then although full body bathing wasn't a big thing the washing of the hands feet and face was very important so maybe her skeletal hand wasn't as grumesome to kiss hopefully. The doll you created I feel is an accurate version to the dead queen in the story. My most favorite part is how the veil hangs on her it almost has like a coffin effect almost like it saying, maybe not in life but in death she became a queen.
This dress is everything! When the crown broke I had PTSD flashbacks from soooo many of my projects (way too many) XD But the finished piece is a sculpting masterpiece :) Maybe I can't look at this tragic story with a straight face since you put Ebisu in my brain.... but I can honestly say - I love this doll! ^_^
Story is quite sad and I think u def did amazing job, very fitting theme too. Your dedication to even all small details always are treat to my eyes I enjoy small details and working on them a lot too! Spectacular job once again, super excited see her husband, they will make deadly lovely couple :) 💀🩶
I love watching you work!! As someone who used to sew (hobby got too expensive for me), your pattern making and sewing skills are of a particular delight to me. And I learned something too! I'd never heard of Inês de Castro before, what a cool inspiration for a doll. Thanks for sharing!
"The crown is extremally thin and fragile, so we must be carefull, not to break it" *proceed to drop the crown* 😅😅 But for real, She is gorgerous. The dress and accessories, but also the doll itself (and a little bit creppy)❤ ❤
Obrigado, a boneca ficou fantástica (Thank you, the doll looks fantastic). And did you know that Pedro hunted the 3 men sended by the king to assassinate Inês and, according to the legend, eate there hearts. Pedro and Inês had 4 sons.
Obrigado também 🙏🏻 And yeees, I plan to sculpt their hearts and put them into Pedro's hands when his doll is ready! 😌 broken heart for broken heart! 🫀 absolutely love this legend!
What a story!.. So sad too.But I love the doll you made of the girl, the sculpting on the head looks fabulous.I like her dress and veil and that crown was a real piece of art.Shes beautiful in a creepy way.I love her 🥰
She's amazing! The white beaded inserts made a special impression on me, I don't know why. The whole doll is attention to detail and history. I recently found a song about them, and now I saw this video. It turns out there is a film about them. This is 'La reine morte' 2009, right? Thank you for the most wonderful thirty-six minutes of my evening. I'm afraid to imagine how many weeks this took and how much patience was spent. But it's magic!❤❤❤
Your sewing and pattern skills are mind blowing! It is a language my brain has never been able to understand, like looking at a math question my brains like "nope, see ya leave that to the professional I'll just watch in awe!"
Thank you so much! 🥰 to be good in pattern making its important to understand the shape and anatomy, just like in traditional art. At some point intuition becomes more important than math 😀
It took me a couple of days to remember you’d change the name of your channel, Emilie. But once the 💡 went on, I was so exited! I love Ines’ story and the painting of her coronation - love ‘till death do us part didn’t count in this love story. You absolutely did her justice. She’s gorgeous (for a corpse 😂). As always, your attention to detail is 🤯 Congrats! 🙌🏼
Soft pastel recommendation: schmincke or rembrandt. I’ve only used them on paper for art, but they were always butter soft and had excellent color payoff. The didn’t change color when I used fixative, but that’s not the same as sealent
I've heard that Rembrandt are very good thank you for recommendation! I'm going to save some money and buy a set of panpastel. They are the best for dolls (but cost like a spaceship😂)
I love her so much. You did such an amazing job with the face sculpt and it was interesting to see how you modded the sleeves. Also the new channel name is great 🖤
I know this voice.... I just got this video in my TH-cam feed and I know this voice from another channel! Am I going crazy? Love the doll and the story!😊
The story is so sad and tragic, and yet, so beautiful. I think you did the doll justice, and I'm curious how you're going to do the king to finish the couple; are you going to make him appear alive or like a skeleton, too? And of course, the level of detail is truly amazing. You put your everything into these dolls and it shows.
You should look into the Pope who's corpse was put on trial, seems ridiculous but obviously not 😂 I have to admit I find that doll heads turned to skulls always remind me of preserved foetus specimens because they are so wide... there's something about the proportions that always seems a little off.
