This video helped me identify this exact issue. I used the part number in the video, replaced the CAN-C Star connector and it corrected all of my problems. I've put about 600 miles on my gladiator so far with no issues. Thank you for the post!
Brilliant!! Thanks for the follow up Joe! Yes the issue is the solders get hot and lose continuity overtime, resulting in loss of communication. Glad it has worked for you.
Good video. I put a video on my YT channel about a few things you can quickly check if you have electrical issues. The Canbus (CAN-C) connector was one of them. For over a year, I've kept in my jeep and extra Canbus, fuses, and fuse array. I'm just glad people are starting to check other things and not just go straight to changing batteries. Good job!
Identical to what happens with our 2019 Rubicon. It gets so hot down there, it has to melt some of the wiring connections. Replaced ours, runs like a charm! Thanks, great video!
I have been chasing these ghosts in my 2020 Gladiator for a few months. It all started after replacing the primary battery and prior to replacing the auxiliary. Only worsened after, down to intermittent loss of power steering, and the inability to shut the vehicle off if the speedometer wasn't engaging. I've felt helpless as nobody is able to diagnose, recreate, or fix the issue beyond clearing codes. I just ordered the part and am extatic to install upon arrival! Thank you for this video!! Hopefully it will save me hundreds in future "diagnoatics"!
I’m almost 100% confident we had the same issue and this should fix it.. have you tried lowering the glove box and moving the wires to see if it makes the errors correct? Mine would immediately correct when I touched them.
I absolutely did that as soon as I saw your video. It worked, and I switched the canbus out as soon as I received the part from Mopar. It was quick and easy to do. I've taken the Gladiator on multiple mountain adventures since with not a problem one! I'm so greatful for having come across your video. It's unbelievable how much time, stress, and money went into troubleshooting this with "professionals" and how small and easy to fix the issue actually was!! Bless you!!!
@erinwallace3126 this is brilliant!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment with your experience.. if you’re in any of the Jeep gladiator/wrangler groups please share your experience so others can take advantage. Your can tag the video link, John hartel, or gator overland if you like .. I think everyone should have one in their glove box.. I already ordered another just in case.. happy trails!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤝
Awesome… Glad to hear it worked for you… It’s a common issue amongst multiple vehicle platforms… Typically it’s a broken solder that heats up and makes the connection. Intermittent… If you have Facebook, feel free to share your experience with how it worked for you and link the video so others Can be learned ..
Impeccable timing. I just replaced my cabin air filter and wondered what those connectors were for? I'll be taking your advice and buying a spare to have handy. Also just completed your video top on fixing the leaking rear window. Works like a charm! I may try using 9mm tubing next time and see if I can push the tubing all the in the grove for a tighter fit. Thanks again, sir.
Great video and good advice thank you. I had a similar issue when my JT was new. Underwarranty, the dealer started throwing parts at it. The simple fix was to tighten all the connections on the fuse box under the hood.
I brought my gladiator in because of code uo121, they said my wheel sensors were faulty. I have 315/70 /17 tires on it, I unmarried my Tazerjl’s before l went in. I was charged 125 dollars, nothing else was done. I told them to check the canbus. Two days later my dash went crazy, l cleared the codes and drove to the dealer and bought the canbus. 120 miles later, no problems so far. Thanks !
Thanks Pete! Definitely a good idea to keep a spare for your or a trail mate. Last thing you want is to be off grid and gremlins start deactivating primary components you rely on when you need them.
You and 1million others that will eventually need to see this as well.. if it works for you (and I know it will) share the link on Facebook for folks.. 🤘🏼🤝
Perfect timing. Thank god it's mostly a communication error and I could actually drive my jeep home from work. I keep clearing the codes and they all come back. Hopefully this fixes my issues.
More than likely, it won’t be an issue after install… I’m 2 months no issues now… as mentioned in the video a lot of times you can reset the code just by moving the wires.
Thank you for the video, i ordered the part number that you gave through the mopar website and it said that it wouldnt fit my 2020 gladiator. I found a different number and ordered that one to. Hopefully one of them cures my problem.
There is a 13 slot and a 20slot that work interchangeably between multiple vehicle platforms. Not sure which one it said wouldn’t work, but the 2 part numbers provided came directly from a tech friend of mine for usage.
Ok update. I just changed out the can buss and still have all the error. Do I need to disconnect the battery? Disconnected the aux battery and pulled fuse 42
I’m sorry to hear this is not solving the issue you’re having… It’s very possible. You’re having a fuse array or low/bad battery issue. If you’re trying to bypass the auxiliary battery, do you wanna pull the F 42 fuse, and disconnect the negative cable going to the auxiliary battery.
Very good video. I'll know what to do when mine starts to go haywire. Question, I saw you put 37s KO2s. Did you regear yet, did you need to put wheel spacers for the stock wheels and finally are your KO2s load C or E? Thank you in advance.
Thanks, yes 37 KO2’s Load rance C on stock wheels without wheel spacers. I did regear to 5.13’s after 30k miles on 37’s with 4.10’s.. my only regret is that I didn’t regear sooner. I recommend Revolution gears and opt for the REM polish finish to mitigate the 500mile break in. It typically adds $100 per gear set, totally worth it.
I’m happy to find you I have the same issues but yesterday my gladiator went to limp mode check everything and still look like a Christmas trees . My jeep at start shaking for a while . Did your jeep did the same
Thanks for reaching out. No, other than the notifications and gauge issues there was no performance issues. I’m betting yours in the fuse array. th-cam.com/video/xZoVDh51xIU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hBX35OiH1KkFpsK2 amzn.to/4d6PPlK
Ok replaced main fuse array near PDC still having the errors. I guess I’ll replace the white star connector and test voltages on green star to see if maybe there is a failing module. Other than that I have no idea what’s causing the problem
Man.. this is unreal.. I’m not familiar with the white star connector functions to other modules. Have you tried moving the wiring at all to see if it’s a connection issue?
@@GatorOverland so I have tested voltage to the star connector and I’m only getting 0.3v which would mean it’s a power issue. I’ll test resistance and see if I have a ground or open circuit on a module I guess
Does this cause the jeep battery to die? My battery was drained . It started popping up all the lights on dash , wipers , went off and just died on me and drained battery ? Can it still be this
It’s possible it’s associate with the CAN system, but I think this is more than likely associated with loose fuse or plug connections in the fuse box, bad battery, the fuse array, or worse case, actually chaffing of wires and causing a short. Lift your fuse box lid off and make sure all the fuse and relay connections are fully seated. Let me know what fixes it.
I had the issue where my power steering stopped working intermittently. I took it to the shop and was charged an arm and a leg for them to diagnose it. One of the ports in the connector they said was loose, they put the connector into a different port and did not change the part. Thank you for this video, knowing I will not get taken advantage of again because I’ll just order a part and do it myself. Just wondering, does the part come with a diagram labeling what connector should go in which port? I have a 2020 2-door JL Wrangler - Thank you again!!
It does not come with a diagram and technically does not matter what port you put them in as as long as the main power connector is in the proper location… This cannot be mistaken because it’s the only one sized for the particular port… The best way to do it is have the new unit in your hand like I shown in the video and replace one at a time putting into the corresponding port on the new one.. if you end up going with the 13 pin instead of the 20 pin, it’s just the same, you won’t need to worry about which plug goes in which port except for the main power and put plug and it is a specific shape slightly larger and will only fit in that port.
@@GatorOverland It’s fixed, I can freely move the wires without causing a party on the dash, and I can finally put the panels back. Here I was thinking I had the Power Steering issue. Thanks for the video!
You have to google it.. The original can bus star connector like the picture is the 20 way 68321746AA but the 13 way 68230877AA is more than enough plugs to support the amount of modules on the JT and can be used if the 20 ways are unavailable. It’s a simple $50 fix and takes about 5min to swap out.
Sorry to hear this. What engine do you have? If you have an e/torque 2.0 4xE it’s very possible you need to check all grounds (battery, frame, body)and add di-electric grease.. otherwise it’s very likely it is the z case fuse array.. have you tried shaking the star connector wires to see if it corrects the issue?

@@GatorOverland it didn’t fix the errors. Power steering abs sway bar air bags all still showing. Should I check the ground and voltages to it now? What else could be causing it?
Yes, you could double check your grounds as a first step, but it could possibly be the z case fuse array. it takes about two minutes to change out and is only a $30 part… The dealership will charge you hundreds for this… I keep one in my glove box just in case I have a bad day. amzn.to/3zrS71f

Brilliant! Yes the solders actually come loose with heat. As the heat cycles so does the continuity and thus reveals the issue.
