I have had some good luck catching some decent fluke just a couple feet off of a jetty's edge, both in the bay at Long Island, and the strong New Jersey surf. It seems these fish often take advantage of the deeper pockets that can form along the edges of the rocks.
Toshow 10 some of the bigger fish will actually sit inside the rocks and wait for snappers to swim by. That's probably how I caught one on a topwater at the jetty in montauk
Hi John.. In your travels have you come across areas that are wheelchair accessible? Not counting piers.. I'd like to find some not soo crowded areas.. I live on Staten Island, NJ is very close.. Thank you Joe
yeah your right picked two fluke up during the strip bass run insane never would have thought that but at least I knew my bass assassin was on the bottom lol
Love your videos John, very educational. I live in the South Shore area of Suffolk County in Babylon. Can you please recommend the best pier and surf areas to fish for Fluke? I do not have boat, and am limited to just land fishing. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.
David Gerdes people will never say a good spot, especially online. The best way to burn a nice honey hole is for people to find out about it. I live in the same area as you a little more east though. Back in the day there used to be a AWESOME trout spot not far from us. Then one day a local politician had his picture in newsday saying how he was there and thats it man that spot is shot even to this day its not even close to how it used to be. My best advice is look on the map and just try different spots you never know when youll hit that special honey hole. Also talk to the peope you run into youll be surprised what you can pick up from makeing friends. A couple of weeks ago i was just turned on to a nice bass lake that i never even gave a chance to just from talking with a fellow angler.
Hi Sr. I sugest you to write this yt:stretch=16:9 on the word box of yours videos editions on youtube and you'll see the videos without black aside at screen. My regards and congratulations
Mr. Skinner, I’ve been watching all your videos and I can’t seem to catch me some flounder here in japan. Wish you could come visit and show me some techniques
Man be careful on those rocks i remember slipping one time and almost fractured my ankle. and also you have to pick your days sometimes the waves can be too strong and when them rocks get wet its a whole different game.
seabassplays study the tides, search for structure, earn to read current, keep a log... spot burning is the ultimate sin when it comes to internet fishing
Michael O'Leary much different, cali halibut are more elusive 10x bigger and they probably won't go for the set up in the video, they like fast moving plastics and live bait
What happened to the Penn Regiment inshore spinning rods in 7'6" ? Cannot get them any more. You make them sound to be a nice rod. What rod would you recommend in its place. I like fast action rods & 7'6" is about what i am looking for
There's a lot I could show with a video course that is hard to convey with words, no matter how well-written. There's a money-back guarantee if you buy it and don't like it.
John Skinner Fishing not looking for any money back. Just not clear. The book was Phenomenal. I am only asking if the on line course. Is different from the book. So I can add it
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks for the reply. Flounder has always been my favorite and up until I found your videos I would only catch them on accident. I caught my pb today using this technique and it made me think of you brother.
Wow what a Creator who created all these wonderful things turn to him now and be saved turn to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith and be thankful for the good things that God the father had made and thank God for Jesus his son who paid for our sins on Calvary with his precious blood and now he's at the right handed father interceding for his saints for his children we're going to be coming the children of God to repentance of Jesus name,
I was just told "fluke and flounder are different fish and one has teeth and one doesn't... I thought fluke was just a name for summer flounder? I'm a west coast fisherman prety into catching different flat fish species. I
Fluke is another name for Summer Flounder. To confuse things, we also have toothless winter flounder which are called "flounder" in my region. South of NJ "flounder" means summer flounder, because they have no winter flounder.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yeah I did some searching and figured it out last night.. thanks for the explanation, do they both come in the shallows and estuary?
This technique is definitely helping me score fluke in the inlet. Finally landed a keeper this weekend. Thank you for this!
Thanks for the video. Always have awesome content. I have been watching multiple of your videos so I can learn some tricks
I really do enjoy your videos. I have learned so much just watching them. Thank you and keep them coming!
Thank you I've been using that rig and been killing them here in RI I'm glad I used it .
As always, I really enjoy watching your vids! Thanks for sharing.
Man this guy is awesome. I would love to fish with this guy.
I'd out fish him!!! Lol not a chance of that happening.

I spearfish along the rocks in jersey and in my experiences when you catch one nice one there is more they hang together same with small ones.

Your videos are great man I gotta say

Do flounder stage or lay on the sides of drop offs, or do they mainly stay on the flat surfaces of the top of or bottom of the drop-offs.

Any recommendations on finding good fishing spots I find many people struggle with this and it would be interesting to see a series about it.

Do you know how this would compare to a California halibut? I would assume the fishing techniques would be similar but I'm not sure.
Michael O'Leary much different, cali halibut are more elusive 10x bigger and they probably won't go for the set up in the video, they like fast moving plastics and live bait
Really good technique. Thanks for shared. Congrats. A question: You did shake very little. Its good like that, or shake a little more harder? thanks.
Harder is better, but as long as your tip isn't soft, and you're using braided line, short sharp twitches will work well.
John Skinner Fishing thanks

I love to go fishing for fluke and flounder here in New York City I use clams
do i need to jig on the bottom becuase I lose so many rigs? Can it be just off the bottom so as you dont feel/grab the bottom?

Was that a fish biting the surface on 1:41 the right side between the second and third guide of the rod!
Yes - shad.
Imho, it is best to be as close to the water as you can safely be.
Show us a video of the rigs you use.
They are good to eat steamed with ginger and green onion with a touch of soya sauce over grits.
Thanks for sharing
John, about how wide was that inlet you were fishing? It's difficult to tell with the wide angle lens. Thanks.
Very educational video.
What's the biggest striper you've released from the surf?
what is the best way you like to cook flounder?
I dip the fillets in pancake batter and fry in olive oil - delicious!
i suggest a python darter lure i would enjoy a review of that
Great job
I have read your book 3 times. Is the on line course. Different from the book ?

I've lost so many flounder on rocks.. its disappointing
n shore, s shore?
south
Why are you using a spinning setup here, rather than your usual quantum accurist baitcaster?
coldoldrice Because hes casting vs vertical jigging
when was this because aren't fluke out of season?
