    Spot-on Tinman ... more AIR = more TORQUE ... Some of the strongest saws I’ve ever run were flow-ported with stock squish and had no machine work, they also last long time. This is not to say machining/widening ports isn’t effective but it’s FAR from the only way to build a saw and can be overkill for an everyday worksaw

    The intake opens and closes at the same degree as do all the other ports. The different readings are probably from the wheel not being perfectly centered or from it wobbling a tiny bit. Keep up the good work, always enjoy watching your videos.

    You inspired me to do a muffler mod on my Husqvarana 261. It had a very small front outlet, less than 3/8" with a small fish gill on the plate over it. It's a hollow can and there's a small side outlet, too. I opened up the front hole to just over 3/4" diameter and added another fish gill above the stock one. It gained about 700 rpm at full throttle and a higher idle before I adjusted the carb. It's definitely louder but has better throttle response.

    Tinman. OK one Tinner to another (33 years) and a fellow porter (only do personal, family and a few close friends). I have heard there are a lot of issues with porting the Titanikel cylinders (from the usual forums and a few others that port) and that had me leaning towards the Nikasil cylinder on my current 288 build. How much of an issue is it to grind around on the Titanikels compared to the Nikasil cylinders? are you using diamond or stone to remove the Titanikel first before trying to bur out the rest to keep it from chipping away?
    Once I finish my 288 build I plan to start on my 372 thumper to see how I like it compared to my ported 372OE 50mm builds.

    Tim man. Just bought another Hyway kit. This one’s for a Stihl 036 pro. What numbers would you recommend? Got the pop up going to do bearings and seals and a slight exhaust mod dual port. Looking to run a 24/25 inch 3/8 full comp in hard wood. Getting old trying to run a light weight saw. Did 4 huskies in the last month. Good stuff

      How did it work for you? Doing the same saw right now.

    • @anthonypryor2852
      @anthonypryor2852 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@trick76deep70 so I ended up at a squish of .021. Worked out with just a base gasket delete.
      I dropped my exhaust from 102 ATDC to 100.
      Exhaust Blow down was 130/30degrees
      Intake I dropped to 78 duration 156.
      I widened the lower transfers and directed the flow to the intake side. The uppers where level so I just tapered them to the intake.
      The exhaust port I widened to 65% of the piston Diameter. Rounded the edges to prevent rings from hanging.
      This saw was about a year ago I’d guess. Tree monkey has a video explaining exhaust port width using the piston diameter.
      Dyno Joe has mandrels that he sells that allow you to cut the squish band without a lathe (by hand). I have another P&C from meteor I’m going to replace the Hyway one with. This build turned out good. Without a dyno I can’t tell you for certain. I fell one load of white oak veneer running a 24/25 inch bar full comp semi chisel. The saw had no problems keeping up in the back cut.
      I’m 60 and try to run the lightest saw I can. My next build will be with meteor and I’ll deck the cylinder and cut the squish. I’ll try and stay close to those numbers. The shaping of the transfers toward the intake side helped. The widened exhaust port regained the slight bit of torque I lost by dropping the exhaust roof. It was a good compromise as I gained usable RPMs. Hope this helps you

    • @trick76deep70
      @trick76deep70 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for all that info!! I’m a few years behind you in age but definitely understand the appreciation for the lighter saws. The 60 cc saws are my preferred size. I have the 362, 034, 034 super and 036 pro. The 034 has the 036 meteor p&c and with a bgd I ended up with around 22 thousands squish. Saw runs really strong but I did have chipping of the plating when I ported it, so I used the diamond coated bits to minimize that. Did you have issues with the hyway cylinder playing?
      Funny you mentioned dyno joes mandrel, already have those with various sizes (worth the cost).
      Have you advanced the timing? Been wanting to try that but the saws run well the way they are IMO. I’m running a 20” sugihara lite bar currently which is perfect for the hardwood we have here.

    • @anthonypryor2852
      @anthonypryor2852 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@trick76deep70 I did not advance the timing. I have been on 200 and 201TCs
      Also on that 036 I dual ported the exhaust and cut out the internal baffle and pulled the screen. There’s no piston pass (free porting so I’m not worried about it sucking in from the exhaust side.
      The new Hyway cylinders are platted in Japan. Ryan and Wolf creek saw shop said the ones he sells now are the improved Japanese ones. I have had problems with the plating on the older Hyway cylinders. The new ones the chamfering looks much better on. I’ve been trying to minimize the amount of moving port height by decking etc. tonsil shaping the intake seems to help. Also I’ve been scalloping the intake port. May be over kill but I really think it helps.
      I have pushed intake timing on the 60cc saws and for me intake beyond 80/160 total resulted in gas blowing back through the carb and really poor idling. I’ve been staying between 75-78 on intakes. Just did a MS880 it was running lean the intake stock was 70/140. The 75/150 intake fattened it up ( pulled the limiter tabs too). Went from 1/2 out on the high to 1 fill out so that’s substantial IMO

    • @anthonypryor2852
      @anthonypryor2852 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@trick76deep70 the internal exhaust baffle on the MS880s is crazy restrictive. There’s 1HP right there. Cut it out and dual port it at 90% of the exhaust port area
