- The tour of Idaho is a dirt bike event that consists of an unsupported, unassisted, 13 day, 2300 mile ride from Idaho's southern border with Utah to the northern border with Canada. Day three was 130 miles and took 15.5 hours to complete.
I started in Arco and ended in Leadore.
It is so fantastic to watch this after having ridden it. Thank you for making this video.

I pre-rode all that stuff in the Lemhi range and into Leadore in 2022. It wasn’t on our Tour route in 2020. That stuff is sooooo good. I dubbed Devil’s basin “Devil’s buttcrack” and I think the 2022 iteration was the toughest and obviously took some teams out unfortunately.
You faced some serious adversity and I can’t believe your resilience with crazy long days in the saddle.
Great job with the editing. Even taking the emotional energy while you’re riding to be thinking of getting the shots, takes thought and energy on top of everything else you’re already dealing with.
I have a new appreciation of the TOI...some of those trails were no joke...and with some luggage it would be extra sporting.
These videos are so well done and enjoyable to watch. I was halfway through the first video before I realized I had watched your attempt from the prior year. Perhaps it was the disappointment I felt on your behalf from last year that contributes to my enthusiasm to watch this more recent effort. Very inspiring.
I was worried when you left at 10. But you got through that single track fast. That looked rough!
I am impressed!!! I have been riding dirt bikes for a long time. I quit for about 25 years, and I am starting to get into it again. I have a TW200, and although my little bike would most likely do that trail, I am afraid the the rider would not be up to the challenge. I ride my quads up in that area a lot. One time I was at 8,000 feet and I heard a tic tic tic. I am losing a belt, I thought. I went about 20 feet, and the belt disintegrated. I was not to far from Howe in a straight line, but 30 miles from my truck.. I always carry a spare belt and enough tools to change it, so I sat in that beautiful spot and changed my drive belt.
It was fortunate that you could find that bolt that you needed. Did you buy a spare? I would have. LOL
That "trail through the rocks could hardly be called a trail in my opinion. I am amazed that you stayed on it. One pile of rocks looks much like another.

Mile 98.5 reminds me of riding above treeline on the Alpine Loop in Western, CO. I am amazed to see you riding this section sitting down!
yeah, those high elevation, alpine zones are impressive. its another world. you do sit a lot, you just cant stand all the time, too many hours on the bike.. you get good at riding both ways :-)
Thank you for posting your experiences. This is an adventure I would love to attempt one day. I can see why you stress the necessity of preparation.
I've gotten hooked on your TOI video series. What other GPOS units have you used for riding? I have used a Garmin 176, 276C and currently have a 478. They are all the same form factor. I like the detailed mapping they offer for off-highway riding.
For a short time I had a 276CX (2020) but I hated it because it was very slow to redraw the maps when zooming in and out, so I sold it after the 2020 riding season and kept using my 478. The 478 seems to have a minor issue with the screen not being as bright as it used to be, so I think it's time to replace it. Maybe the Montana 700 is what I need.
On my Tenere 700, I started using a Zumo XT, but it really lacks the level of detail for backcountry riding I am accustomed to with the old school Garmins I've been using.
