- View the teaser for this new documentary - coming in late November on Fox Docos, this documentary charts the concept, design, development and racing success of the mighty Holden Monaro 427C that won the inaugural Bathurst 24 Hour in 2002.
It also takes viewers behind the scenes of the build of an identical sister Monaro at GRM, tabbed as the 'last Holden built in Australia'.
A bit of a myth about the Holden Monaro 427C's was that they ran the same 7 Litre engine that the Corvette C5R's used in the ALMS and at Le Mans. Not quite true. The C5R's used what was known as the LS1.R engine while the Monaro's used a Garry Rogers Motorsport modified 7 litre version of the GM LS6 V8 lifted from the Corvette C5 Z06 road car. In base form the LS6 is the same 5,665 (5.7L) capacity as the Gen III (LS1), but puts out approximately 70 more horsepower.

The public have loved this type of car for the whole time I have watched this type of car . The racing chassis they are trying to sell as Touring cars today , will kill motor racing here.

Any mention of how it didn’t fit inside the rules yet was still allowed to compete, while competitors got handicapped further?

That type of car won both the 24 hour at Bathurst expect Murph won it in 2003 aboard the 05 car
