For some who don't know, So Hyang at 20 or 21 years old had ovarian and uterine cancer and because of bad needles got Hepatitis B and has bouts of pneumonia. Because of surviving she is a devout Christian. SONY has tried to sign a contract for 15 years and no she won't. She sings solely for the heart, soul, and comfort of the people. I hope this explains her story more completely for you of our beloved and beautiful singer, So Hyang. I believe So Hyang and Dimash are "EARTH ANGELS" at this time on earth to soothe and comfort the souls of the people!!

I've watched this performance of hers many times. It brought me tears every single time (I'm a guy, and not a cry baby, btw). Even when I'm watching your reaction, Tara, with all the breaks in between, I still can't help but to tear. She is able to hit me with her singing, her honesty, her emotion, her soul etc. In fact, I've seen many reactions to her singing and still can't enough of them. To me, she is in fact a gift of God. Tara, I am glad you caught that she uses Gospel connotations in her way of singing. Just in case you were not aware of it, she is a devout Christian, a woman of great faith, and a cancer survivor. She arranges her songs... all those that you have been reacting to? all of them have been arranged by her. She is an amazing, incomparable, magisterial ARTIST, and it blesses me and so many to see/hear her sing, but also seeing you make all those wonderful comments (technical, etc). Great reaction Tara, it really is one of the most remarkable performances we'll ever see. It's is such a difficult arrangement that she's never sung it again, maybe because she wasn't able to beat a fairly vanilla KPop hearthrob in the competition in this episode.Outside of the CCM community Koreans don't get much exposure to gospel so it's possible that this performance was just too alien for them to really understand how incredible it was. She actually spent some time after this wondering if maybe her voice just didn't appeal to people (yes, yes that's crazy lol.) The year after she went on King of Masked Singer even though she wasn't in the greatest of health and ended up setting the record for most consecutive wins for a woman and she remarked that those doubts were answered. She just recently finished a run on the series Begin Again Korea where she busked with other professional singers around the country during the pandemic. She sang I Will Always Love You in the original key to an acoustic accompaniement and it would definitely be worth a reaction for you as would going back and reacting to I Have Nothing which she starts in the key that Whitney finished in.
One of the saddest things for me about Sohyang is that when she had a huge international platform - performing at the Winter Olympics - with the great opera singer Sumi Jo, they chose an arrangement of a song that did not suit them at all

honestly speaking if I was to compete n someone gave a performance like that, I would back off after giving my performance, only out of respect, this performance can't be rated... for me it's her best. judging with his facial expressions he himself knew this performance is out of this world.
I love your videos, Tara. I've learned so much from you. Especially about chest voice, head voice, and mix. I had voice lessons with a very classical singer: she had a huge reputation in singing oratorio, was quite well known, and was all about power and placement and strength. She taught me to lift my soft palate to reach the higher notes, and to increase breath and control it all with my diaphragm. Listening to you I can match her teachings with your comments about head and chest voice, but I still see differences and it's fascinating!

This performance is like the holy grail of gospel to me, and it is definitely my favorite performance by her. It's also one of few songs and performances that really touch my soul. So Hyang has that gift! Technically, I also think her performance of Mudeungsan is very underrated, am I the only one? It's also pretty recent, which is great! But she has so many great performances under her belt that it's hard to keep up with all of them 😂

1st Part => Anytime you sing in a much slower tempo, it takes great voice/breath control. 2nd Part => Anytime you sing in a full, powerful belting mode with insane high notes, it takes great voice/breath control. Acapella => Anytime you sing acapella with just your voice filling the stage, it takes great voice/breath control. Ending => Anytime you finish off with this incredible climax after 6 minutes of non-stop singing, it takes great voice/breath control. When you do all these and still deliver an emotionally charged performance that makes people cry? O Come on... This performance demonstrates what SoHyang is all about and how great she is. There no doubt she is the most dedicated and gifted singer alive today.

In a way, Sohyang’s singing is like opera to me… I didn’t understand many of the words she sang, but it didn’t matter… I had tears running down my cheeks, anyway. Tara, It is good to see you doing good in this terrible time. This song was written and sung by another Korean diva back in 60's with gospel in mind. What So Hyang did to this masterpiece is just phenomenal. When she rewrote this, she did not think as much about the vocal technic but the message and emotion of the original piece portrays. It shows in her dynamics and body language. Her approach to music is just different than others. That is why I love about her and it shows in her performance. And she is no different in real life by living in what she is singing. Thanks & good health to you.

In a way, Sohyang’s singing is like opera to me… I didn’t understand many of the words she sang, but it didn’t matter… I had tears running down my cheeks, anyway. That’s the way (SOME) opera affects me. She is PHE-NOM-E-NAL!!!!!

Tara, It is good to see you doing good in this terrible time. This song was written and sung by another Korean diva back in 60's with gospel in mind. What So Hyang did to this masterpiece is just phenomenal. When she rewrote this, she did not think as much about the vocal technic but the message and emotion of the original piece portrays. It shows in her dynamics and body language. Her approach to music is just different than others. That is why I love about her and it shows in her performance. And she is no different in real life by living in what she is singing. Thanks & good health to you.
