Rather than breaking the limits of this game by making the most sophisticated of contraptions, you just made the simpliest and undeniably the laziest of redstone machines and mechanics. Absolute genius!
I consider this probably the single most technically impressive build yet. Yes, you've built things more complicated, but the way you took one of the most complicated and hard to construct machines in the game and replaced it with some glass, scaffolding, water, and a chunk loader,,, my mind is boggled. Minecraft ELEGANCE is the right name! I hope subscribes come your way!
I think this is genuinely the greatest Minecraft tutorial series on TH-cam. Not only does in explain the concepts in a clear and concise way, but the focus on the farms are always on making them as cheap and simple as possible - for either non-technical players or early game.
IanXO4, Hierophant of the Scaffold, has emerged from his Shrine of Practicality to deliver another simple construction to the Minecrafting masses yearning for survival resources.
For anyone who wants to make this is in 1.21. Note that you don't need the spawner due to the newly added potion of infestation. With a few testing the potion of infestation has no spawn limits and the silverfish does count towards the mobcap. You can use this method to spawn silverfish with allays or witches and can be made in all three dimensions (although the end dimension is pretty useless...) Also for everyone new here. Do make sure to watch the entire video and listen to the "note" sections and understand them!
I did just this on my paper multiplayer server but for some reason it doesn't work, are there any specific settings i have to change for paper? Edit: It doesn't work on paper so switch to something else
"Well, I had the option of making your worlds a ton SAFER by getting you to spawn a massive amount of wardens, a massive amount of vexes or a massive amount of silverfish." I'm eternally grateful you chose silverfish. 🤣
This is how all farms and machines should be, simple yet efficient, elegant and reliable. Great job ian, and those who helped him with the drafts and design 👍
Ian, I just can’t fathom how damn smart you are. Most people think that the people who made the more complicated farms are the smartest. But sometimes simple is best :)
I am really impressed on how Ian is always able to reply to almost every question in the comments section for every farm video he made. I’m sure it takes a lot of time and dedication!
I've been waiting for this for over a month now. It is absolutely incredible and took me around 10 minutes to build!! Your elegance series is absolutely genius and your video style is perfect🙂
Man your content is amazing... always with all the info necessary, and with the most simplicity possible... amazing the job you and the entire community does.
I looked at multiple of video and I am impressed! My favorite part about your channel is that you make really well working farms and contraptions, while being super simple :D
These videos of yours are of so great quality it's insane. I have no further questions, you told everything that there was to know about this topic. Absolutely amazing. Edit: after checking the description, there is nothing that can possibly increase the quality of this, and other of your videos
How has this not been more well known for longer? Just over a year back I built a zombie villager mob switch in my previous world which was so much effort... This is so easy, amazing!
@@qixe_6007 A mob switch uses some specific mechanics to allow you to turn off all hostile mob spawning by flicking a lever in vanilla survival minecraft. This is mainly useful to prevent random creeper attacks/endermen griefing, and allows a bit more peaceful gameplay
You are the god of casual technical players who dont want to waste a lot of time to build things. Thanks you ❤❤❤( I really love your stacking raid farm)
Just want to say thank you for your consistency and constant support for people looking for help in the comments. You deserve way more views and support.
i was building a megabase and it turned out to be a mob spawner. Me at the time didnt want to spend 30 hrs building a mob switch so i decided not to build one.... that was until i saw this video! the farm took me 45 min to make in total it works flawlesly and i havnt had any issues so far! good work my guy :)
Wow, finally a use for silverfish spawners! And it's been possible for a little more than year now? Thanks so much for showcasing all these incredibly simple survival friendly tricks.
Before the villager update, silverfish spawners were a great way to "store" XP. They are still better than skulk too. Simply create a stone generator, push the stones into a 12x12x12 area and you'd have 1728 blocks of infested stone. In skulk, this translates to 1728 xp, in silverfish, this translates to 8640 xp. Since autoclickers werent really a thing, it was the only farm that was relatively early game that you could afk. Gold farms were incredibly hard to build in comparison. Later, endermen and guardian farms made this method practically useless due to better xp rates and villager trading having relatively easy access to experience bottles made silverfish spawners practically useless.
couldn't this theoretically make ocean monument raiding waaaaaaaay easier? love the idea of playing on peaceful without losing all my captured and named mods, will definitely be making one of these
holy shit my man did it. Using the single spawner nobody gives a damn about. What a guy, this is amazing. And I just spent hours making a zombie villager switch lol
Wow, the silverfish trap is unbelievably simple. Btw at 1:40 you say the mechanic has been known about since 1.17, when actually it's been known for far longer, since at least 1.12. Ilmango did a series of videos building mob switches on scicraft using this mechanic in early 2018, starting in episode 60. But you're right, it is quite surprising that it had never been presented in any kind of simple tutorial, so thanks for making one.
youre right, but it was removed in 1.15 and 1.16, and then reintroduced in 1.17, so it would be misleading to say 1.12 because the mechanic had to be discovered thru code digging in 1.17.
In 1.21, you can use the infested potion to get silverfish much faster, and it will allow you to build the mob switch anywhere, not just where a stronghold is.
Vex farm design allows you to build this mobswitch hundreds of thousands of blocks away with the only issue being transporting the evoker there too. Or you can find a woodland mansion thats super far away and nobody reasonable will go for that mansion in particular to find an evoker. Bring a brand new account to the spot so you can fix/reset the mobswitch if needed or build enderpearl cannons to teleport there fast.
God this is exactly what I needed, but the other mob switches require traded zombie villagers, shulkers or WARDENS, this is perfect for my laziness. Your designs are the best.
Hello Ian, I'm a big fan of the super crazy simple farms you built. They make Minecraft so easy that players don't even need to try... I have a farm suggestion: Please make a next-gen Sheep farm that uses bonemeal dispensers and piston revolvers to cycle the grass blocks around. I tried but my design is too complicated. I bet you can come up with a super elegant solution though! Thank you and keep up the innovative videos :)
*Small update: Put an ender-pearl chunk loader near nether portal in the same chunk . So you don't have to go back and reactivate the mob switcher every time you disconnect and reconnect (from snapshot 24w37a version and beyond)

"you have to use a lot of shulkers or withers for a mob switch"
ianxofour: "no"
if you want to do any building in the nether. I highly recommend a mob switch. Glad to see the concept get more attention.

At this point i would consider Ian as a mind reader, legit i was looking for a mob switch the other day and this video showed up pefectly timed.
Few more of this builds and you're gonna turn scaffolding in a bigger minecraft revolution than redstone was
Couldn't be more true! He uses it so many times due to its various properties.
All hail the scaffolding!

Funny how chunk loader was the most complex part of the mob switch
Amazing how he took more time to explain how to make the chunk loader in the tutorial than the actual mob switch itself
Now this is a usefull use for a silverfish spawner
Wonderful video, I learnt a lot. If you want more views I recommend putting "1.19" in the title (it attracts a lot more than 1.17+ actually)
Very nice cart based chunk loader.
Great vid. Will probably still stick with shulkers since they are easy to get once you have a shulker farm
