    actually Mario doesn't die, he just gets teleported directly to hell
    LUIGI on the other hand absolutely straight up dies at the hands of dimentio, it's wild

      Honestly, yeah I never saw Dimentio as killing them, because it'd feel really wrong for Bowser to die that easily after we've seen what he can survive, and two, t feels really wrong for Dimentio to just be able to do that in the first place.

    Super Paper Mario is my single favorite game of all time. Something not mentioned but what I think is the core of this game is that every chapter is about a different kind of love, and that is what truly elevates it to the level of an imperfect masterpiece in my mind. There's a lot that I can say about its flaws, but that does not stop it from being so, so good in my eyes.

      I think whats cool about the unique design of Super Paper Mario, is that it lends itself well to sequels specifically for that story and gameplay format. Intelligent Systems should totally make Super Paper Mario 2. Even if it doesn't necessarily directly connect to the same characters of Flipside, I think it would be fun.,

    I remember playing this as my first paper Mario game and it was such a fun time. I’ve replayed it several times now and it’s still so fun, plus the characters are amazing. Bleck is a great big bad, Mimi is creepy and i love that, Chunks gives me some TF2 Heavy vibes and he’s great, Dimentio is terrifyingly weird but has such an amazing design. Also, can’t forget Nastacia and her devotion to the count while also hoping to better him at the end. Old paper Mario fans want the partners from TYD to return in modern paper Mario games, but I personally hope we get to see Bleck and his minions return at some point cause they are all amazing in their own ways.

    This is such a fascinating video for me. I love Super Paper Mario as much at it seems you do, and I've always seen the game through the lens of each chapter being an exploration of different types of love, from parental love with the whole Luvbi story, to love of games with Francis, to love of a leader with the floro sapiens. I like looking at this because it discusses the immense good and bad that each kind of love can hold in people's lives, and I just find the game fascinating. Your analysis blew my mind because I hadn't thought about the "game over" things as anything but fun tongue-in-cheek jokes, but it makes so much more SENSE. Ahhh I love this game so, so much. Compared with other Paper Mario games, or Mario in general, Super Paper Mario features many characters consisting of simple geometric shapes and lines. iirc, the Dark Prophecy wins by default if the Light Prophecy isn't acted upon. It's really cool how the story actively gives the player a choice on which path to follow, rather than go "there is only one destiny"- even if you can really only go a single path since it's a video game

    God, yeah, that game was a rollercoaster of emotions! Amazingly funny and shockingly scary at times. It has its tedious moments, yes, but it will always have a special place in my heart as the first game in its genre that I ever played through (with my siblings, too! We had voice acting sessions while I played it through. It was fun as hell.)
    When I played the game and the story around Blumiere and Timpani (aka Count Bleck and Tippi) unfolded my heart broke. It was so sad. One of the reasons why it still lingers in the back of my head and pops up every now and then. The forbidden love, oh dear.

    Subscribed for now, I would love to see an analysis of Super Paper Mario's music, as I've never seen anyone analyze it apart from one or two, but the entire soundtrack has a lot of hidden stuff in it: for example "the evil count bleck" is a remix of the memory theme, and "Look Out for Me" has a double meaning, either look for merlee or watch out for mimi

    Genuinely one of my favorite games of all time, l cant stress enough how important this game is to me and like actually getting to play it was. The story, the characters, the music, even the post game content just goes to show how ambitious of a game this was, sure i might have some personal gripes with it on the terms of how some things appeared to me, but that's like hardly enough to sour my love for this game and I genuinely hope more people give this game a chance!!!
    One more thing, I always interpreted the whole Underwhere and Overthere dynamic to be a sort of interpretation of Greek and Christian takes on afterlife! The Underwhere being more Greek inspired because of the river Twigz, the Underchomp, hell, even Jaydes is a few letters away from Hades. But I honestly never thought of the interpretation of her being a sort of stand-in for Lilith!
    Meanwhile the Overthere is more straightforward, with the way the nimbi's talk, how Bonechill is pretty much a fallen angel and like how the place itself pretty much fits with our idea of Heaven.
    All in all, great video!! So glad that people are talking more and more about this game :D

    • @anotherblowncartridge
      @anotherblowncartridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the great comment! And yes, Jaydes is definitely more based on Hades than what I said, but I wanted to do a bit on an analysis that I hadn't seen before on TH-cam. None of them commenting on the history of Yahwehs wife or the mother of demons. I really appreciate your support.

    • @mostdefinitelynotaguineapi7566
      @mostdefinitelynotaguineapi7566 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Overthere is more based on stereotypical renaissance imagery, and the nimbis speaking in Early Modern English is a comedic decision seeing as the Bible was written in Hebrew, but the Underwhere connections are definitely there. Also, the river fare is 4 coins, and 4 is associated with death in some cultures.

    A lot of people who don’t play Nintendo games or think they’re a scummy company or whatever think Nintendo is like Apple, where only the loyal customers buy it for loyalty, and they think all their content is for children. They NEVER look into it or attempt to experience such a beautiful masterpiece of a game like SPM. Sure, the graphics aren’t ultra HD 8K running 120 FPS on the latest console with online multiplayer, but this game is based on so many principles and morals. A lot of the references with Grambi for example, carry on in the game, with Mario especially, as a protagonist in a “innocent” series having many moral and Catholic-Christian values. We as a society should strive for this and not let all of these modern differences and people above us socially and economically influence our basic ideas of, love and treat everyone equally, and work to be a better person, be kind, don’t hurt others who’ve wronged you, acknowledge that laziness, vengeance and belligerence isn’t contributing to making peace in our society. I love how this game shows that love and respect come in many forms, and we should care about each other for the greater good of our society, social status, and our world.
    I’ve said my piece. ❤

    • @anotherblowncartridge
      @anotherblowncartridge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thellamadj283 Well, Dimentio may have less "screen time" than Fawful, sure. But he's a more complex character with an overall better and more unique design, at least in my opinion. I also think Fawful is a very "one note" villain whereas Dimentio's motivations and goals are initially unclear, making him more interesting

    • @crumpchump
      @crumpchump ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @anotherblowncartridge8929 Colour Splash is the only one I haven't played purely because I never got around to it. I agree, I don't dislike any of them. i actually played Sticker Star when i was a kid, and being a stupid kid, i loved it, not that i dislike it. Sticker Star and Colour Splash are at the bottom of the list just because the others are better.
      if you're interested, my ranking feom best to worst would be
      1: Super Paper Mario
      2: Thousand Year Door
      3: N64
      4: Origami King
      5: Colour Splash
      6: Sticker Star

    Between this and Skyward Sword, the Wii had a ton of ingenious titles that went relatively unappreciated.
    In my opinion, what really messed this game up was actually just having "Paper Mario" in the title, because crazily enough there's actually NO paper aesthetic in the whole game. There's a strong 2D design, of course because 2D to 3D is a theme from the start. But never any paper like the first two games had. In fact, there's a strong "computerized" aesthetic I didn't even think about for the longest time. Maybe if it had been called "Super 2D Mario" or something, it wouldn't be looked down on as "That one Paper Mario sequel".

    • @anotherblowncartridge
      @anotherblowncartridge  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a great point. It's more like "Dimensional Mario" rather than paper. As well, as a fan of Skyward Sword, I couldnt agree more. The Wii has many beloved classics, and games that are heavily underrated.

    But about Super Paper Mario: It is really one of the most unique games I have ever played. But tbh, I never really got myself to actually play it through the end, the gameplay has been too annoying for me. Dimensio, MrL and.... Graf Knickwitz(thats his german name) are really interesting characters, going the same direction as Fawful. Really a shame that Intelligent Systems wont make a gamelike this with so much charm and character probably.

    There were 2 puzzles that i hated in this game. one in 1-2 where you stand on a blue pad and then press - and 1 and the other i think it was 5-3 where you have to hit coin blocks 20 times in a specific order but that's literally the only downside of this game.
