Nothing in the world like watching someone discover DL for the first time. Your face when the chorus hit was everything. The Dirty Loops rabbit hole is my favorite. Guarantee you'll get stuck. You gotta do "Follow the Light" immediately. New sub! Also, love your whole setup. Happy Birthday Rihlyn!

These guys met a music school in Stockholm , Sweden. Jonah (keys, vo) studied classical music while Henrik (bass) and Aaron (dm) studied jazz/improvisation. They began rearranging songs from the '80s from Adele, Britney Spears amo and uploaded them to TH-cam. Needless to saay they went super viral and got like everyone's attention from Quincy Jones to David Foster! The latter one kind of took them under his wings as his protégés. Nowadays they belong to Quincy Jones Productions! Henrik is real bad ass player for sure!! You must check out Work Shit Out with these guys that one will blow your mind big time!!

Always lovely to see someone discover Dirty Loops for the first time and be completely bowled over by them :D Believe it or not, but they are just as good - if not better - live. I've listened to them since they put up their first jazz fusion cover of Lady Gaga's Just Dance, back in 2010, but saw them live for the first time this summer. I knew what I was in for, but it still blew my mind how good they were live. On top of that they are really sweet, humble and have a great sense of humour. What's not to like? Welcome down the rabbit hole that is Dirty Loops. My absolute favourite of their songs is Work Shit Out, and I would love to see a reaction to that one, but you could pretty much pick any of their songs, original or cover, and you more than likely will not be disappointed. They're all of this stellar quality, and all of them are different from one another in some way. (Yes, I am fangirling. As a musician, how can you not? :D )

    • @fiddlestix3025
      @fiddlestix3025 ปีที่แล้ว

      …which is amazing, isn’t it!
I think I could spend the next few years just figuring out all the vocal layers.
Apparently Aron the drummer had come up with that concept and gave Jonah a chalkboard with funny drawings of all the different vocal “characters” in this piece.
Jonah then tried to give them their individual character by singing them all in different ‘voices’.
Imagine the work and time this would’ve taken-!
I love the ‘choirs’ and all the different harmonies in this piece, and even during the credits I could listen to Jonah’s ‘choir’ for ever….
      ☺️👍

If i recall correctly, they all knew each other from early days and wanted to start mixing genres. Everyone told them it couldnt be done successfully, and they basically said "hold my beer". Did some covers, then went their separate ways to master their specific instrument/genre of music. Then they got back together. Almost every song you'll hear classical, rock, jazz, gospel/church, and probably about 5 others that im sure have "proper" names that i just dont know. theyre actually insane, have perfected their craft, and as some other comments have pointed out, are managed by Crazy Q himself. I discovered them probably 3-4 years ago and have been living in the rabbit hole ever since.

    Happy Birthday to Rihlyn!
I never heard this band before and I am totally impressed. Not only with how tight they are but with the great combination I'm hearing of jazz and funk influences.
Hopefully some of those who think there's no great music today will hear this and realize there's always great music, even in periods when the radio stations and record companies aren't promoting the best music out there, we just have to search a little harder for it.
Another great band from another viking homeland is Kaleo from Iceland. Not only do I love their music, but they have some awesome live videos of several of there songs done at beautiful, unusual and sometimes precarious locations in Iceland, such as deep in the core of a volcano or upon a small ice flow in a cove were icebergs break off into the sea from a glacier.
I would like to request a reaction to their song "Break My Baby", done live from a lighthouse high on the tip of a mountain top jutting out of the ocean. th-cam.com/video/y8q4zPjXd0M/w-d-xo.html

Great reaction! I don't know if you realize it or not yet but you are in for a real treat. Everything they do is awesome. They started off by taking a top 40 pop song and "Loopifying" it. They posted one on You Tube just for kicks and it went viral. That was over 10 years ago. There is so much from them to choose from and you can't go wrong. I considered myself a fair drummer until I started watching these guy. As other comments suggested, "Work Shit Out" is an excellent choice. When I first discovered them earlier this year, I couldn't help myself and have been binge watching them ever since. I hope you can contain yourself long enough for you to share your first reactions to their songs with all of us Loopers. I can't wait to watch you discover the many sides of Dirty Loops.

Yeah, Dirty Loops are the pits! 🤣
And just as you were saying, with DL each member of the band is the best 😅
Jonah’s vocals - angelic is the word. He’s the one who put down all the vocal lines in this song, choir and all, despite them pretending it was the drummer doing backup vocals :)
I’m stoked that you found Dirty Loops, every single song they did is gold like this, in this disgusting way 😂

A late HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIHLYN!! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Really lovely reaction, giving them just about enough praise and no more (like "perfection"). Everything Dirty Loops do (they do, the band does?) is great. It is also very varied between their tunes, but also very Dirty Loops, except for maybe Rings of Saturn and one more from the Turbo album (more Corey Wong, still stellar). If you want to here a bit more of Aron, the drummer, you could check out "Work shit out". It is Dirty Loops all the way, mixing it up as they love to. But maybe you should start on the less grand scale, with Old Armando had a farm (only Aron and Henrik) and Coffee break is over. Both are short and them just having fun, you could even do them in one reaction, although they do deserve their own reactions. Don't forget to read the credits, you often find some goofy stuff there that gives you a feel for their goofy humour. Some of it is likely to sort of internal Swedish jokes, but most of it you will pick up. Sometimes they refer back to what they wrote in the credits after another song, this can be confusing.

I saw them live two days age (27 Nov 2023) and they were fabulous. Jonas voice is just as good live, possibly more dynamic than the studio version. Aron is a wonderful drummer - and what to say about Henrik? - he didn't invent slap bass but I haven't heard anyone do it better. I didn't meet them, but people who have say that they are the most wonderful sweet guys, and that certainly comes across when you watch TH-cam videos of Henrik being interviewed. Bass isn't even his first instrument for goodness sake. He trained as a pianist and will play a bass riff at 500mph and casually mention that it is in Dorian Mode.

@@jensamensas thanks, that’s super interesting, and so good to hear 👍
I guess their thinking went a little something like this: ‘by now everyone has figured this out (that bit in “Coffe Break’s Over”), so let’s do something else crazy and get everyone into a knot for a while…’ 😵‍💫😜
      Oh lord, these dudes, honestly….🤣
To see them live would be The Real Deal, for sure!

So many influences in their music, but for some reason - Toto - is ringing through so clear in the instrumentation (groove).

Bear in mind they were ‘discovered’ by none other than Quincy Jones… just like another one of his recent ‘discoveries’, Jacob Collier…. QJ is doing pretty well for himself these days

Hah, ok checked the start of the video again. Yeah man, you're in for a real treat, up there with Snarky Puppy, though a different philosophy, certainly the musicianship is on par, and just the FUN of their music is a great inclusion to the soundtrack of your life 👍
