Some are surprised Andrea True effortlessly sang live here, but her mom sang with an orchestra, her dad sang with their church, and she herself studied piano from age six through college. She’d planned on a stage career since childhood.
She was a pornographic actress from the early 1970s ( hence get the cameras rolling get the action going) who turned to singing and produced a hit Good on her. RIP Andrea

More than one hit. This song was written by Gregg Diamond (if Bionic Boogie sounds familiar 😅) add What's your name what's your number and NY you got me dancing 😊
@@throwachairnot a video, the song was recorded 😅 Her memory is now linked, more than to her hard filmography, to her career as a performer in the disco music genre , in which she made her debut almost by chance: in 1975 she was in Jamaica shooting an advert for a local real estate company and, precisely in those days, the Jamaican government banned the transfer of any type of assets abroad, in response to sanctions imposed by the United States after the election of pro-Castro Michael Manley as Prime Minister. Andrea True therefore had to choose between two alternatives: giving up the advertising fee or spending the entire sum received within the Caribbean island. She decided on the second option and with her money she recorded a demo of More, More, More , a song on which she had worked with her partner and record producer Gregg Diamond , thus starting her recording career.
At 21-year-old, love the fact that we have true musicians, a real singer, the natural sound of the instruments, raw, non synthetised elements unlike todays stuff
Rock Your Baby, Fly Robin Fly, Get Up and Boogie, Rock the Boat, Doctors Orders, Jive Talkin, Get Down Tonight, Love to Love You Baby, That’s the Way I Like It, Sunny, and this one: More, More, More were all early disco classics. There’s probably a few others I’ve overlooked. 74, 75, and 76. Just before disco went mainstream during 77, 78, and 79. And then abruptly ended. Early disco was the best in my opinion with its instrumental breakdowns and the presence of some innocence still noticeable. More More More had perhaps the best instrumental breakdown of all of the mentioned songs. Unfortunately, disco would be greatly exploited in the following years and would be rebranded as dance music as the 70’s ended.
The one you forgot is "Swearin' To God" by Frankie Valli. Also "I Know We Can Make It" by Donna Summer and "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston, though that one came out in '77 ("later disco", as you described it). Oh, and another favorite, "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross. A BIG favorite.
YMCA, I love to love, A fifth of Beethoven, le Freak, kung Fu fighting, Dancing queen, I love the nightlife, Ring my bell, Daddy Cool, Gimme some, Hot shot, Shame, shame, shame, MFSB, etc... So many great songs in that Disco era...
The back story of Andrea makes this clip all the more enjoyable because going live is likely way out of her comfort zone. Suddenly, she is a bonafide singer by performing at that venue. I love it.
Just a girl from Tennessee who successfully transitioned from a career in porn to singing. By the early 70s she was burned out making porn saying, “I’d rather be a waitress or a typist than to make another adult film.” She actually made some good music. R.I.P.
She had a checkered past. Ok, enough said.. She was getting her life in order. Great voice and stage presence, too bad the music industry didn't give her a chance like many other 1 hit wonders had.
She defraud her parents, she misled the people around her, specially her boyfriend who she was going to marry, and all her friends who loved her and who thought she was a goody 2 shoes Christian conservative girl...she didn't rape or kill anyone, well neither did Hitler, and nobody has accused her of doing any of that, so why does that morally clears her shady checkered xxx porn star past ? and how do you know she didn't "defame" anybody? How do you know she didn't defame anybody by calling them "racists", "sexists" or "homophobics" at any time in her life ?
Loved this song when it came out and fell in love with her when i saw the video. Kirschner's Rock Concert & The Midnight Special were great for showcasing great acts. RIP Andrea. 😔
Her live voice is not as good as the studio engineered sound but just like most disco singers of old, studios often added effects and even pitch shifted a singers voice to sound better. This isn't a bad live version. I prefer it over the lip syncing that so many bands of that era (and even today) do.
Listening to her voice on several recordings, you hear some well supported vibrato especially on the higher notes. Someone worked with her, but then again that lower abdominal support was part of her work. ;)
I love her smile! She really did make her dreams come (Andrea) true. She is having the time of her life. I can see how she is dancing to the music during the instrumental part of "More, More, More". That song electrified the dance floor with an energy to put our bodies in motion. Andrea True had a serious crew (band & dancers) with her! That trumpet player, wow. And the dancers...that's exactly what it was in 1976 Disco's!
You know the story right? The government of Jamaica would not allow Andrea to leave the country with money she had earned there. She rented a studio, paid for top notch Jamaican musicians and recorded this one song. She was allowed to leave with a piece of magnetic tape. As she initially had the one track, the original Buddah 45 RPM had the instrumental as it's flip side.
Yeah, I heard the story but I forgotten which Caribbean country she recorded that song, thanks for telling the story. I guess she invested that money well cause that song is a 1970s disco hit and to this day is still love or liked by many people today.
This was way before journey’s “anyway you want it”. They gave KC and the sunshine band a run for their money. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since she’s been gone. RIP Andrea. I’m goin to request this song at my 18 year old son’s wedding next year.

I used to work with the rhythm guitarist (the other guitarist is Bruce Kulick, future Meat Loaf, Kiss) at a record store in NYC for 3 years. There was just him, my boss and me, so we spent many hours talking. My friend, Joey Barbosa, would tell me about Bruce sharing with him the Blackjack demoes, and my friend saying the singer would never be famous (the singer was Michael Bolton). Bruce was playing with my friend in a Queens band. Bruce was recruited to then tour with Andrea who recorded the albums with studio guys. Bruce said instead of auditioning for members, why not use his band. The leader singer was kept and is the bongo player. They then added the horn line for the tour in Europe, America and Mexico. When they recorded the 3 shows for Don Kirshner they added the dancers (who were later married), as, according to Joey, Andrea would just stand there. Nobody could get her to move. He'd tour with her again, though with a different band. By then Bruce was on to Meatloaf. I remember him saying he talked to Andrea once or twice a year on the phone, but couldn't get in touch with her thinking she was sick or dead. Later that year, she died. Joey continued playing in a british invasion covers pub band in NYC (this was a decade ago, I lost track of him when I moved) called Tru Brit. Joey's face and name is on the second album, but he's not on it.
