I WAS trying to clean my house while listening to this, 2 minutes into it, my shirt is all wet from dancing around the kitchen with a coffee cup with soap suds in it
I had the privilege of being at a concert featuring Koko Taylor, Pinetop Perkins, Albert King along with several others whose names escape me now at Helena, Arkansas in October 1991. I was able to get a place on the levee right beside the stage, just behind the speakers where you had a great view of all the people on stage. Koko Taylor had a huge band with her, she put on an amazing show, totally amazing with top notch musicians and back up singers and all of them dressed like they were playing at an up town place rather than at the Sonny Boys Blues Festival, outside with enough mosquitoes to bite everyone there many times. Thank goodness I managed to sit between two fine gentlemen who, through their forethought about the mosquitoes had rolled up several fatties and lit them to help save the rest of us from certain death from the plague of mosquitoes. They did need some help keeping the fog going but luckily a few brave souls were up to the task and risked their lungs to keep those blessed fog machines going.
Many may not know that with the 20th century and the advent of records the original stars of the blues were women it was mid to late 20s before male blues singers made an impact. Koko is the real deal carrying the torch!!!
I adore Koko Taylor. Saw her in bars in Chicago many times. What a great singer and person she was. She did a lot of Willie Dixon. Thanks for posting this great clip on Koko!
I am so happy that someone had the sense to document this morning she's . I'm 75 and been playing blues guitar all my life. There are so many incredible musicians from that time.with the Advent of modern technology we're able to record these people in history for the generations to come
HEY👍🏽👌😎😄I JUST LOVE HER VOICE AND HER STYLE I'M GLAD THE YONGER GENERATION KNOWS ABOUT HER MRS. KOKO. TAYLOR I REMEMBER HER IN THE 80 when she song we going to rain can you do the all night long what a superb song
My parents listen to this music an I love it to. We stuck together as a race an it had alot of meaning. They showed that we could really play our instruments to like no other. I love this bass player!! Long live the BLUES
One of my favorite songs back then! I was sort of 'shy', soft voiced and 'assimilating' at a private prep school outside my 'hood- But I sure could imitate this song of Koko's with gusto & love !
ICONIC ! THE 1 & only QUEEN 👑. THE OG SOUTHSIDE LADYOF CHI TOWN . Had the honor to see her perform live many times in Colorado . Met her in the elevator and she was the sweetest . The blues machine was just as iconic and supported Koko so tight as she belted out and growled the blues .. all the way down to the basement
He died more from a minor injury that, combined with all the shit he took in the 50s and especially 60s, killed him in his sleep. And I think he sounds ok here, but it's nothing compared to the stuff he could play in the early-mid 50s
The Queen of Chicago blues one of the greatest Blues singers ever. Also featuring the great Houndog Taylor in the classic line up. RIP you great Immortal guys.
I've had a copy of Willie Dixon's I Am The Blues album for 35 years, but I've never seen him play the bass live. Wow! Some of the best bass playing I ever heard!!! He is the blues. Thanks for putting this up.
I was lucky enough to see him. One of my all-time favorite concert memories. He was old, and had to be helped on stage, but that voice was still there boy.
+ Victoria Spivey, though in a cut-off performance at the end of the clip. Her style of singing is SO nuanced, and nobody sings the blues this way anymore.
Thanks so much for posting this. I got to see Koko a few times after I moved to Chicago in 1993, and it's amazing to see her in her prime, playing with blues royalty.
Koko Taylor with Hound Dog Taylor in a live filmed live recording from the sixties. Great to have this one on TH-cam. Koko´s voice is so great. Chicago Blues in itself.
He had five fingers and a thumb on one of his hands. He used to have his girlfriend sing a couple songs during his performance. He always brought a kitchen chair to sit on while he played. I miss the 70’s!!!

Always felt that Matt Murphy was the best of the best. (playing the boogie woogie here) He could back up a harp player as good as anyone could-and that is an art of it»'s own. Such an well rounded blues man.
Wow that's my aunt, I appreciate her music now than ever before. RIP KoKo
A wonderful legacy for your family!
Whoa! One of my favorite female blues singers.
What was she like as an auntie?
Koko was your aunt? Cool!
She is awesome
She appears in a David Lynch movie singing in a dark night club. It’s “Wild at Heart” I think. It was filmed in the ‘90s.

Litte Walter sounding good a year before his dead, the say he was recovering his blues powers just before he got murdered
He died more from a minor injury that, combined with all the shit he took in the 50s and especially 60s, killed him in his sleep. And I think he sounds ok here, but it's nothing compared to the stuff he could play in the early-mid 50s
